ADIDAS BBall Boost Thread - BYW, Crazy Explosive & Crazy Light & OTHER BBALL ADJACENT SNEAKERS

View media item 2196648Has anyone here tried to uncaged these things? I'm thinking of a more minimalist approach - it's from the CLB 2016

I'm thinking about doing the same thing because I think it'll provide better lockdown.

I made another eyelet using a leather punch like what Schwollo did and it helped quite a bit but still have very minor slipping. I think if I remove the plastic wings it'll be near perfect.

The leather punch I bought came with eyelets for reinforcement so I'm thinking I'll just reinforce the holes without the cage.

Just gotta figure out a clean way to remove the plastic wings

CLB16's has the most minimal forefoot boost out of the 3 according to most reviewers.

I really do not think there's a conspiracy on it though because they were biased towards Adidas then all three (CLB, CE & DRose) would have great boost feel.

I think it's just that boost doesn't work for everyone, I've been saying this ever since the Energy Boost/Ultra Boost were introduced. To me, those simply have too much drop off from heel to toe and despite boost being great in heel, my forefoot starts to hurt if I put too much distance running in them while the majority raves about them.

The same experience with the DRose 6, there were plenty who felt the boost weren't any special and that it wasn't "bouncy" at all while the majority feels it is the "boostiest" yet back then. There were also some statements that boost has to be activated like MicroG and that could be true and all but those who loves it usually loved it on initial fitting before it saw a minute of gameplay on court.

I think many would agree that the Kyrie2 has one of the worst forefoot cushioning out there but I see plenty of big, oversized/overweight dudes on the court playing and when I ask them about the shoe, they have no problems with the cushioning at all.

^I thought I was hearing reports of how the CE was pretty minimal up front. Maybe I missed those other reviews. I can see how this would be disappointing, but I also like the aspect of getting some boost while still having good court feel. Still need to try these on to see...
My post certainly wasn't trying to knock it.  It should be a nice combo of comfort and court feel.  And there definitely are reviews stating the forefoot boost is minimal and not super plush.. and then there's reviews with excerpts like this:

"I’d say that this is the most comfortable ball shoe I’ve ever put on my feet based on cushioning.... For the elders among us that require a super plush and responsive feeling look no further than the adidas Crazy Explosive."

Just makes it sound like it has super plush cushion, when in fact we're finding the forefoot is thin and not plush.

Reviewers I trust, that buy shoes from a store, are on record saying the CE cushion is on the hard side.  I tried on two pairs (here in Indy as well, Champs in the greenwood mall), and while they felt good, they were no where close to what some other reviewers are claiming.. to the point where something has to be going on.  There is no way in hot hell that someone could step into the CEs I tried on and claim they provide good cushioning in the forefoot compared to anything with a half way decent zoom setup.  I ended up getting a pair of HD16s for $47 less because they felt a lot better under my forefoot.
I live on the west side so I tried on a pair at Hibbet Sports in the Speedway area (they were a black and white colorway that I've never seen anywhere before and they weren't Primeknit).  The Boost in that pair felt a little BETTER than the pair I first tried (All Red pair from Castleton), but still not ULTRA BOOST off top.  I would say that PERHAPS, after playing in them, I could see them softening up and feeling bouncier, but even with that, it's not ULTRA BOOST Boost.  I'm not sure where this is coming from....

You know, I agree. I tried on a red pair in store and while the forefoot didn't feel hard, it did seem rather thin. I ordered a black pair anyway just to see if the cushion is any different or more like what the reviewers claim. If they're still thin, I'll just send them back.
Yea, the pairs I've tried on felt thin.  The first pair felt like there wasn't even any cushioning in the forefoot, let alone feeling like the Ultra Boost lol.  Let us know how they feel, especially comparisons of try-on vs after a few games of playing in them.  To me, it seems like "some Boost" needs to be activated and some is just soft right off top (I've experienced this from trying several Rose 6 shoes on).

I've seen many people saying the same about cushioning as well and how it varies from person to person.  I think it's the style of play, where some people literally never leave the ground the entire time they play and those minimal shoes work for them.  I've seen people in Jordans, Dunks, Forces, and all types of shoes with either hard or not forefoot cushioning, yet they're still killing on the court.

Yup, none of this is a knock on the shoe whatsoever.  It did feel good on my foot, I just prefer more cushion.  There are shoes that are objectively on the hard side like the Kyrie 2 and Curry 2.  I can certainly play in those, but after a couple hours my forefeet are a bit sore.  Boost is a tad better, but not enough for all day play.  Zoom never gives me an issue.. even mediocre zoom like the soldier 8.

I'm not a heavy guy, but maybe boost performs better for people 140ish without bottoming out.  Maybe zoom needs a little more weight to activate and feel plush.  Personally something like the KD9 or HD2016 is way more plush to me than any boost I've ever tried.

Seems like im one of a few but I'd rather the CE be more minimal since I actually perfer the low to the ground feel of micro G and lunarlon in the kobes.

How long do you think it will take before the CE goes below $100?

Hard to tell, I think a 2-3 weeks after the red primeknit CEs came out they went down by 30% on ADC bu then about two days later they were back up on retail, not sure if it was a mistake.

They were selling less on Amazon for a maybe a week there too but now they are going for resale prices, I think I saw some stores selling close to $200 on there.

Not sure if it's the hype or simply word of mouth or just actually seeing players with them on during preseason games but while not selling out, looks like discount might be a bit more scarce.

I really do hope I am wrong though but then again the Lillard2's didn't hit much discount and sold in-stores so we'll see.

If I see the black primeknit CEs hit a 20%-30%, I'd probably go ahead and grab a pair instead of waiting for deeper discount. Hell if I actually see it in store and be able to try them on, I'd probably pay retail for it.

There were a lot of heel slip complaints about the CLB16s though, CE seems to be the most praised of the three along with the DRose7 so I wouldn't be surprised if they hold it off from getting a good discount.

ADC just needs to have their FnF already!

Just got the black CE. Can't wait to hit the gym with these. Super comfy on initial try on.

I do want a pair of the D Rose 7s as well though.

Slept on these and had to go a full size up. Got 15% discount code as well so pretty happy with the price. Bit of room in the toe box, but the lockdown and fit feel great. Really looking forward to playing in them tonight.
I was in between the White and the Black colorway, this totally sold me on the black on though.

Gonna be returning my red ones, wore them once and loved the feel, not so much the colorway.

Yeah, it probably depends on the player. I personally prefer forefoot cushioning because I'm on my toes most of the time. That's why I love the Jordan 29s so much. I don't really think about the heel cushion. The CEs or the CLB16 could work for me with a cushioned insole. In fact, I did try the CLB 16 with a cushioned insole at finis line and it felt great but I passed lol. The sales associate was trying to up-sale me but I didn't plan on spending an extra $20 for insoles lol.

Agree 100%.  I can be found wearing UBs, NMDs, and AdiZero Boost most days, but I haven't found an Adidas bball shoe with Boost that gives me the comfort I need.  I had high hopes for the CLB, but ended up returning them after playing in them for an hour.  So much more soreness in my middle-aged knees than with my KD8s.  Got some Lebron 13 Elites, which I don't really like how they look, but I can play in them all day.  I weigh around 180, so it's crazy that I have to wear 'big man' shoes, but whatever it takes.  I still haven't tried the CE but hopefully it will work better for me than the CLB.

Same boat as you, though strangely, I have replaced my Rose 6 with Huarache 2k4 (a minimalistic shoe when it comes to forefoot cushioning because of only the met bag) and I have had less pain in those than the Rose 6 (though I think I have defectively hard Boost or something).  I want to go back to Micro G soon because I think that was the perfect middle ground between Boost and Zoom, but the only Micro G shoe I've tried was the first Black Ice Mid (cushioning is still awesome in those years later).

I grabbed the Wiggins PE pair of the Explosives on eBay for $105 and they'll been awesome this week playing. That inner bootie really locks you in

Someone was selling a new Black/white CE on ebay for $89.99 in my size the other day :wow:   Went back to grab them a few hours later, and they were understandably gone.

I think I'm going to pick up a pair of D Lil 2 bounce.  Think these will go on fire sale soon?

I do love boost, but Lillard 2 w/ bounce
smokin.gif
 definitely recommended

I have a pair of Lillard 2s with full length Bounce and I definitely like those better than any of the Boost basketball shoes I've tried. The Bounce is always consistent, unlike the Boost shoes I've tried. Bounce is firm with a good amount of rebound/bounce - it feels like the middle ground between Micro G and Charged. I keep seeing Lillard 2s on sale off and on and plan to get another pair.

I still like the idea of Boost. I just wish I could find a pair that is as awesome as all the reviewers say it is.

Ya I definitely love my Lillards more. I just like the way it works right off the bat. Just go a half size down and that's it. No fiddling with the fit. Not to say I don't like my CLB. I just don't like the inconsistencies with all the 3 recent adidas shoes.

Nice pick up.  I tried on the pizza with booger colorway at FTL and then ordered these with the 15% discount.  I can't wait to try them on court.
