FUNKO POP! VINYL THREAD (FUNTKO FACTION) STRANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED...

Allow me to play a bit of devil's advocate...
The green goblin chase (i'll use this one as the example since it's the most recent)

before the chase, it seemed like people were still very much interested in the Green goblin, A lot of us was speculating he'd be the one in the MCC Box.
when we first got wind of the green goblin coming out, everyone was hyped. Awesome

now green goblins you can get from PopCulthca or pretty much at retail +shipping from other people.

I dont understand the sadness of not getting a chase. (as if any other chase is easy to get)
I'm not supporting flippers but flippers get cases, because..........................well they chase it.

I wont say they dont have lives or they have nothing better to do... because that's probably not true.
I have a job where im out most of the day and not restricted to an office.

I go hunting almost everyday that i feel like it.

I'm just trying to figure out if the people who want the chase want because they like Goblin (to which there is a regular version out and very easy to get)
or do they just want the chase because it's a chase. and the exclusivity of it (which is the very meaning of trying to be the first to get it.)

and if you like Goblin.. get goblin... if you want the chase...........chase it..

but i've seen a lot of people in here all of a sudden only caring about the chases

it's as alleyzonjay alleyzonjay said, he likes the character... so he got the character he liked and not worried about if he can get the chase or not.

I really don't see the difference between this and con exclusives....Regina from once upon a time is one of my top 5 pops. that SDCC reginna is worth $250 right now. would she be nice to have... yea but at te same time. i already have the reg one and im completely fine with it. (actually better because she has the apple in her hand and not the heart )


this doesn't go out to any one particular, but when i see people say... "flippers ruin the fun of collecting"
no.. not being able to get what you want for $10 bucks may ruin it... but im sure they make your fav character in a reg version as well.

Sucks you can't get the "exclusive for $10" but most aren't easy to get in the first place.

i like it only because its metallic. i think people just dont like the fact that people snatched the regular one in bunches and were selling them for $30 and now theyre snatching all the Chases and selling them for $100+.

i also feel it ruins the fun in collecting because theyre not giving other collectors who actually want him a chance to find him at retail instead of some inflated astronomical amount they want to charge because they bought out entire stocks of him just to sell.

look at Hennessy, he ordered like 6 in hopes of pulling atleast one. then you see people posting pics with 4 and 5 of them which they just got $10 but want $100 for each. its kind of ridiculous, but i understand the nature of collectibles. so ive learned to just go with the flow and not say anything anymore. if i luck up on him then i luck up. some of them asking for super rare/retired POPs, people are having a field day with those guys. :lol:
 
I have Chase Batman, but I bought it only because it was a Chase. The Green Goblin on the other hand, I prefer the chase because I feel the metallic look pays homage to the movie version somewhat. But id take the regular version and be good with it, if I could find it. If a version comes out with the glider Id take that one over any other regardless of a sticker.

yep so would i. they really should of done a glider for him.

i wanted the Chase Superman just because he was metallic but i like the new metallic mold from the TRU 2 pack better so im content with that. glad im not a collector that needs every variant of a particular character. its helped ease my collecting habits.
 
Straight up I'm a hypebeast and I want the exclusive stuff. I have no shame in admitting that. Aside from beat up Jesse, GITD hazmat Walter, and flocked Ghost I haven't paid over retail for any pops. Same thing with my Star Wars Black Series 6" collection. I've paid retail for everything but older ones I loved (Darth Maul, Boba Fett, Boba Fett prototype, and Luke Skywalker jedi), missed out on them during release because I wasn't into the hobby yet, and I had to catch up on before the price got too crazy (similar to the 2500 pieces BB pops mentioned above). Never paid over $60 for any pops or Black Series figures. So yes, I want the chase ONLY because it's exclusive and for the chase because I'm a hypebeast. I'm not a big enough fan of it to go and pay resale value like I did for the SW figures and BB pops which I truly appreciate and value in my personal collection. $100 for Green Goblin chase? No thanks. The thrill of finding it in the wild and having my first chase in my collection. Sounds good to me. Like I don't even want the Independence Day Alien, but I'm gonna buy a few to try to get the chase. I just think it's fun and I don't mind hooking NTers up here or selling on eBay if I don't get it. Now a lot of NTers can vouch for me also for selling rare pops and SW figures for retail + shipping. I'm cool with that as this is just a hobby that I'm not really trying to profit from. If I do profit one day, it will be from selling my personal collection when I get into something else (like how I don't buy any kicks any more). Until then, I'm cool with all the extra Walgreens exclusives and BvS pops I have because they will go to members on here, my friends, eBay, or I'll just hold onto them. I'm not purposely going out there trying to be a pop reseller. I have better things to do. Don't even think I've made profit of anything I've sold (I've only sold to NTers so far). So if my Green Goblin and Walgreens exclusive order seemed ridiculous, it's because it was, I just wanted to open a box and find that chase and was cool with the extras because I knew they'd find a good home.
 
And with that said. I could care less about the Green Goblin if my Walgreens manager doesn't call me the chase is over. I've exhausted all my options for getting the chase for retail at that point and I'm not going to the secondary market to pay the premium. Especially if the cases keep coming with 4 chases and he becomes the 1st edition Machamp of the pop world.

@Tdogg im just upset because the 2 pack is sold out and we got people out here sniffing them out like fiends to resell for a small profit.. I reached that level for Jays at one point but I didn't think I'd have to reach it for POP Vinyls in order to get what I want.

I have the regular BvS Superman, but I want the metallic 2 pack. Whether it's limited, exclusive, etc, idc. I want it because it's metallic and it's a cool 2 pack to have. Disappointed I'll probably have to pay resell for it, as I still haven't gone hunting and successfully found anything I badly wanted since I started this hobby.

I've paid resell for my Crystal Heisenberg, was hoping to get this 2 pack "hunting", but flippers are buying out the stock to resell and make $15. :smh: I'd be just as sad if it was a normal POP, because it's something I want.

It just sucks that POPs are quite literally taking a turn towards what the shoe game became.. reselling. For what? $15?

Doubling up, okay. Hunting hardcore for your pack? Okay. But flipping for $15 profit? Cmon b.

At the end of the day, they're plastic toys and $15 is a pretty petty amount when it results in taking the fun out of POP Hunting for everyone who isn't a reseller.

Agreed.  It's bad enough that for the last two days, I've seen the "Hot Wheels" guys check out the POP display at my TRU, when in the past, they walked right by it without even looking.

Ser Friendzone will be copped lol. I got to get my GOT collection up. TWD and GOT are the reason I got into this, yet Marvel dominates my collection lol.
 
Need that Night's King. I'll pass on the Ride, I just want all three dragons in 6". Rhaegal should be coming out at GS, I think, and Drogon is an HT exclusive. Curious to see what that J. Snow looks like.
 
Can the Dragon 3 pack still be had for retail? Thought they were eventually supposed to be sold at GameStop.

They hit Gamestops already. Might be hard to find now but give it a shot. I saw one when I got Scar and Ramsey Bolton about a month ago but the box was destroyed.
 
I think people took my post negatively and I didnt mean it to be. just playing devils advocate. Trust me i know the pain of not getting what you want to get. I've been playing catch up with these pops since I started last year .


Like Hennessy said, he's honest about it. Plus I've seen this man's collection. and I know what he does with him. he displays them proudly. and that's what I like to see. He also gives up what he doesn't want for what he paid and that's it. (he got some heat in his collection)

I just get the :rolleyes face when people say how much they want something just to keep it on ice and trade later.

Not many or any are "flippers" here which is why I love this group. we've all hooked each other up at one point for What we paid +shipping.


As some other people have said in here. Pops only have the value that you give them. Theres somethign for everyone.
it's always a bit odd to me when it's said (for all collection of stuff) .. Resellers and flippers make me want to stop collecting.
Again I understand the frustration of not being able to get what you want. but there is still something for everyone and usually for most things multple ways to get it.

it sucks for any item for people to run there and buy 5+ of something, and those flippers suck.

and i hear a lot of.. way to leave some for others (in fb groups) but at the same time. if i see 5 chases in my walgreens right now im coppin all 5 because I know i have 5 of my NT fam that need them.
Some can still say im wrong for that though..
 
Nah man I knew your post was to be fair and create a topic for discussion, was just voicing my opinion and frustration with what I've experienced.. perhaps I came into this hobby too late when it already exploded into something much bigger than it was before.

Idk. I just wish I could have a slight chance at the "Exclusive" stuff i want and not only be finding that all the POPs I've badly wanted and hunted for are gone like a fart in the wind. It's discouraging for me because I used this as a way to ween off of Jordans due to the crazy hype and ridiculous prices / resellers, but now that I'm finally liking a new hobby it's turning towards that too?

Like I said, just frustrated.. got one more TRU to check near my work today and if they tell me I'm SOL and that people been hassling them all day too I'm gonna be sad.
 
^I feel the frustration coming from the sneaker world as well. But if it wasn't hot, I wouldn't want it. Funko pops are awesome and that's why we're all here right now (along with the resellers).

I only buy what I like. I always miss out on exclusives. I try not to pay resell prices and just wait for a restock.
