MacBook Pro or air? I'm leaning towards an air because I like the thin aspect of it and am not planning too much programming besides basic music and internet.

Bro read a couple posts up and you can see how to get a MacBook for $750. My boy just did it a couple days ago and I came to post the same thing except someone already beat me to it.
As for OP...just look at the various daily deal sites. I see great deals for laptops all the time.

pages, numbers and keynote are so much better on a mac than office. They convert office files without a problem so theres no real problem here.

Is the SSD worth the extra $100? The cheaper one has a bigger screen as well but that isn't a real selling point for me.

1. SSD >>>> HDD all day. Spend the extra money, well worth it
2. Main difference Ricky is the power and size. Macbook Air is a "mini" version of the MBP for lack of a better word.
