2014 NFC North Trash Talking Thread: Ron Parker-Bears dream dead! Greg Jennings cut!

I've got it: GB, Chicago, Detroit, Minny. I've thought about flipping the Bears and Lions, but I prefer Trestman to Caldwell. Both teams have some defensive concerns. Wouldn't be surprised if the Vikes jumped the Lions under Zim. That team is building, growing properly.

I have money none of this happens.

The narrative of Trestman drastically improving Jay Cutler's performance does not match up with what actually happened in real life. 19 TD VS 12 INts in basically 10 games he left the 11th early.

Stretch that over a full 16 games and you get Matt Stafford's exact 2013 season which apparently was a "bad" season.

So explain to me how Trestman is this wondekind coach in regards to Jay Cutler

It's totally devoid of empirical evidence.

I'll bet anyone anything up $1000 bucks the Lions have a better record than the Bears barring injury to Calvin Johnson or Matt Stafford.

I'm more impressed and speaking to Trestman's impact on McCown in just 8 games. Trest has made a living off being an offensive guru. It's the defensive I worry about in Chicago, just like Detroit.

Hope I'm wrong. I actually prefer the Lions to the Bears ever-so slightly.

I'm sorry but 8 games of decent play out of McCown does not make you an offensive guru in the NFL.

How much of a guru do you have to be draw up an offense that has the Bears weapons?

You're an expert on NFL offensive gameplans now?

How would YOU know this?

You don't have to be an expert to know that 6.5 decent games of Josh McCown doesn't make you genius.

Considering dude was third in the league in passer rating when he was never anywhere close before in all his years in the league is a testament to Trestman's capability. Also he helped Rich ******* Gannon win MVP, a journey man QB. I'm not saying he's the best coach ever but he sure is qualified as an offensive guru.

Add me to the Vikings fan list please. Been bleeding that purple and gold since 6 years old. I haven't been this excited for my Vikes in years. I honestly believe if Zimmer's D clicks quickly enough and Xavier Rhodes improves as our #1 corner, that we can compete for the division. Norv Turner has proven to be a huge plus over the incompetent Bill Musgrave, and thats without having AD in the backfiekd for the preseason. Cordarrelle Patterson looks poised to breakout as a true #1 receiver. Kyle Rudolph is healthy and should be one of the best TEs in the league for the foreseeable future. Jerick Mckinnon should be a great weapon for Norv. Defensively Captain Munnerlyn is a big upgrade. Harrison Smith is healthy and a he's a beast. Linval Joseph was a huge pickup (figuratively and literally). Anthony Barr is raw, but looks to be a future stud. MLB, CB, and FS seem to be the only big weaknesses on the entire team in my opinion. I'm ready! Bring on St. Louis! Skol Vikings!!!

I understand your point about longevity, but I'm banking on Trestman's offensive success. It will be the defense (secondary) that becomes Chicago's ultimate downfall.

That's it right there.

That secondary is a mess and we already seemed to be plagued by injuries, but keeping the faith and hoping Mel gets those guys on the same page.

Looking forward to Kyle Fuller in a Bears uniform. Your DL will be real this season.

Packers lose lineman Aaron Adams for the year with ACL/MCL

Posted by Darin Gantt on August 29, 2014, 8:18 PM EDT

The Packers are going to be in the market for more offensive line help.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, the Packers have lost tackle Aaron Adams to a torn ACL and MCL.

Adams, who spent last year on their practice squad, had a chance to make the team as a backup. But he blew out his knee on the second play from scrimmage Thursday night, and will be placed on injured reserve.

They’ll be without projected starting center J.C. Tretter for the first month of the season with a knee injury, so they’re short on depth at the moment.

That makes some degree of move likely, whether it’s a waiver claim, a trade or a signing.

Its funny, all this gibber jabber about how the Bears and Lions have suspect defenses.

I swear its like no one actually watched either team last year.

The Lions' were a mediocre defense last year. They were 15th in the league in total defense, 12th in points given up per game. You let the dumbass national media tell it and we had a Cowboys' level defense.

This isn't a top flight defense by any stretch but it was the best defense in the division easily last year. We didn't lose any key pieces made a few upgrades but some how the defense is the issue?

The Baltimore Ravens won a Super Bowl with the 16th ranked defense in 2012 and they didn't have a turnover machine putting them in bad field position like Lions did the second half of the season at quarterback.

Straight up this division will be decided by Matt Stafford's progression. If he stays 2012 and second half of 2013 Stafford the Packers win the division with ease, again.

As long as Jay Cutler is the quarterback in Chicago I literally have no fear of them at all, the Vikings scare me more.

Mark Trestman coached Jay Cutler for a whole offseason 11 games last year and he barely got him to Stafford's level as a quarterback at 32 years old. Dude is what he is.

Bears should have kept McCown, that dude put legit fear into my heart.

^ SP, tell the truth, you don't worry about Detroit's secondary play in a division with Rodgers and Cutler?

No, I like both safeties and both starting corners, after that sure it gets scary but no team is perfect you can't have 22 pro bowlers.

Mathis is past his prime and I can't expect Ihedigbo to match his '13 season in Baltimore.

Mathis was past his prime last year too but still a solid corner. Scale from 1 to 10 he was 7.5.

Ihedigob isn't old, he's in great shape and hard worker. Why can't he repeat his 2013 season?

Previous 4 seasons in his career indicate Ihedigbo wasn't that type of player with the Jets or Pats. I watched him with NYJ closely, he was more a ST guy than premier safety.

Whenever he got time he was productive. He doesn't need to be premier by simply being solid and not giving the big plays Delmas gave up last year he will be an upgrade.

Stafford's my guy but he's still by far my biggest concern on the team.
