Black Culture Discussion Thread

It should be that easy, but it must not be since it isn't happening. We gotta start from somewhere. Hopefully with movies like Selma, Top 5, Dear White People and others that were directed by black folk and have majority black casts become more common, but there's still a long way to go.
So if somebody make a black film, would yall go see it just cause its based on black ppl?

Nope. i care more about the art of film making. If it looks like trash I won't see it, black director or actors or not. Shouldn't matter if they look like you or not, mediocrity should NEVER be supported.

Thank you sir. Some of yall in here feel that just cause its black we need to support it. I will say we need to support GOOD black films.

The so called "rapper" at the end has the mindset that has setback the movement for so long...

The focus on disorganized mass protests instead of a united front with the main goal of legislative change.

Dudes feel like they are apart of something big when they are making noise and getting a violent response from police officers.

Voter drives, community outreach programs to discuss upcoming measures, and actual interaction in EVERY city hall meeting with local officials isn't exciting enough I guess.

This is why occupy wallstreet failed, and the tea party has been so successful.

Felt like the 3rd one came out not too long ago. Didn't expect another one to come out so soon.

i aint never watched hidden colors. Is it on that extreme pro black stuff or is it a subtle inofmrative program???

The Hidden Colors Docs getting driven into the ground.....I thought part 3 just came out last yr....I'm still waiting for 7AM we need more documentaries like that instead of HIDDEN COLORS...

Don't see the problem with Hidden Colors. We've been told so much BS in text books and other movies that are OBVIOUSLY false yet the masses will swear by it. This is probably the most accurate documentary films going. He can drop one every month and I'll watch it.

........didn't he say the government was harvesting black peoples organs through the organ donor program with the sticker you put on your driver's license?

lol

Our thirst for a leader has led us to a massive amount of false prophets and misinformation...

This is very detrimental to our progress.... b

You can have both.

exactly. If dudes dont like something, then they can pop off a kickstarter and put out their own content. I donated to HC4 and will be buying 7am when it releases. At the end of the day what will it take for people to start taking action? People have been telling us about Group Economics for near 100 yrs and we still do not act.

There's proof for most of the **** they talk about in Hidden Colors... b

I think it boils down to people not being aware of the concept. It's not as if white folks will teach us about group economics, seeing how they gain nothing from it. Although it seems fairly obvious that we should be pumping money into black hands, I believe that people just aren't aware of it's importance to a community, and of the concept in general.

Seeking and spreading knowledge is detrimental to progress? Since when?

Just like any other documentary, there may be sketchy info. That's why you do your own research. I don't believe in EVERYTHING  the people in the docs say, but they will lead folks in the right direction.

Nah, the concept is there, but Blacks go out their way to give whites their money in order to feel they "made it". And then we also create the negative stigma that all black businesses are janky, and black folks "dont know how to act". People will quote Malcolm when he speaks on self defense (even then they are too scared to do that), but never quote Malcolm when he talked economics, same with MLK.

Blacks globally will never have respect until we develop an Economic Base and Infrastructure. We think giving others our money = respect, and we look like fools. heck we have Africa, the most resource rich land on earth, but we can't even do anything with the resources because we lack infrastructure so outsiders come in and build infrastructure but at a cost that does more harm than good.

That stigma is definitely out there, but I genuinely believe that the majority of folks aren't aware of it's importance. How likely do you think that the majority of younger black folk have something like this on their minds? You have to be in a certain mindset to even care or know about group economics imo. ****, I'm barely even finding out about the phrase itself and it's importance. Before, I was just spending money, not concerned on who's hands it was going to. Once I started educating myself and all that, then I understood it's importance.

I saw more young people than anyone talking the whole "Black business Black Friday" stuff after Ferguson, but even then I can only see what happens in my age demographic. Like I said before Blacks are taught if you can do what White People do you will be accepted and "you made it". A dude I know was buying a home, and I was putting him on game on how the City is giving away a ton of grant money so people can gentrify old hoods, and he was like "nah I`m trying to move to *insert majority white burn*", I didnt even respond after that. Blacks won't practice group economics even when its in their best interest. We will ship our kids across town to private schools where they get mistreated or looked at as magical creatures instead of building our own schools. I remember when I was in college and even then when I was becoming conscious I was still sleep, back when I`d drop so much bread on gear just because it was Polo. Now I dont even cop sneakers or clothes unless I see something on clearance racks, or I`m supporting a black biz.
