if anyone is looking for more context, michelle alexander's the new jim crow is a great read that tangentially touches on this subject. another book that, while not directly related the topic at hand, people should check out is sugar salt fat by micheal moss; about the food industry...it has some interesting things about how food corporations target different food products at specific consumers, the most loyal of which are called "heavy users," probably not the most revelatory but very interesting stuff...
Mississippi deputy fired for racist Xbox Live rant: ‘I get paid to beat up n****rs like you’
A Mississippi sheriff’s deputy was fired after making racist threats against another gamer while playing Xbox Live.

The other gamer, identified only as “David,” posted a YouTube video of his exchange with former Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Slater.

He encountered another gamer making racist statements on the gaming system’s voice chat and decided to provoke him.

“I asked him if he wanted to buy food stamps as a random troll,” David told the Free Thought Project. “He then blurted some racial words and I told him he sucked at the game.”

He later found the other gamer had sent him a private message, and David and some friends jokingly invited him to a party before the racist gamer revealed he was a police officer.

“You’re about to come to a paid police officer’s house,” he said. “I get paid to beat up n**gers like you! I get paid to beat up f*ckin n***rs like you! I will f*ck you up!”

David asked him to prove he was a police officer, and Slater provided his badge number, name, and other identifying information – including the phone number for the Jackson County sheriff’s department.

He posted video of the racist remarks online Jan. 25, and Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell learned about the encounter Wednesday and fired Slater, a three-year veteran, the same day.

Watch video of the encounter (which becomes more heated at the 2:27 mark) posted online by Hood Gaming TV:

^^repped. Need more accounts that highlight these types of sentiments from ppl of such "caliber".
Nate Parker to star in and direct Nat Turner biopic, ‘The Birth of a Nation’
"Actor Nate Parker (Red Tails, Beyond The Lights) is hard at work on a film about the 1831 slave rebellion led by Nat Turner.

The historical drama, which will serve as Parker’s directorial debut, will be titled The Birth of a Nation, an obvious reference to D.W. Griffith’s highly controversial and racist silent propaganda film from 1915.

Parker, who also wrote and is set to star in the film, says it has always been a dream of his to play Nat Turner even though he’s generally not remembered in America’s history books as a good guy.

“A lot of people thought he was a bad guy, but it’s [about one’s] perspective,” Parker says. “I don’t think he was a bad guy at all, but we all have our ideas of what we want and why we want it, and what we’ll do to achieve those things.”

After reportedly having religious visions, Turner led a group of slaves to revolt, resulting in the deaths of between 55-65 whites in Virginia. The rebellion came to an end after two days with Turner going into hiding for two months before finally being captured."

You just won an oscar for a movie, about a man who tried to "show love" to confront racism. :smh:
It never fails. Get acknowledged by them people and soon comes the switch up.
Talking about extending a hand to squash something, like we are the aggressors.
My man obviously didn't read that DOJ report. love isn't going to end racism, when they out here targeting black people for revenue and still killing unarmed black males.

Another one bites the dust.

MLK tried that love and nonviolence approach...

...

They assassinated him.
yea but he accomplished more than the panthers did and the outcome was the same either way..

YOU CANT OUT-VIOLENCE THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT

once all you reactionaries realize this, then we can start moving in a logical direction

The black Panthers wasn't even about out violencing white people/gov.
wrong...

the police and government were using violence against blacks...

in response the panthers used violence

legal possession of firearms/armed legal confrontation with the government = implied violence being used as a deterrent to government violence

that deterrent failed miserably.
Coming at white people in "peace" won't stop unarmed black men from being targeted.
yes it has.... the lynchings and other issues that were much more prevelant have only become taboo due to non-violent protest/political positioning/and human rights campaigning.

I hope you don't think we got civil rights because the government got scared....

our political power (as the largest minority at the time) was more of a concern that our ability to actually affect the power structure through violence
Even in our own continent white people are stealing, raping, and oppressing black people.

White people are minorities in this world and a decreasing race so they will do whatever they can to make sure they stay in power.
oh i see. You not really about solving the problems in the black community ... you are about fighting white people...

although both movements tend to have alot of the same goals in common, there is a stark contrast in issues such as this one (violent vs. non-violent reaction)

trying to oppose the US Government with violence.... lol... there's whole countries that know better

The black panthers were not about violence, they were about social programs. Their ideas were transformational, effective, and way ahead of their time.

Heck, if it wasn't for cointelpro, the movement might have spread throughout the nation.

that's like saying tae kwan do is not about violence it's about disciipline...

in actuality nobody said the black panthers were "ABOUT" violence...

i merely pointed out the detriment that their USE OF VIOLENCE had on the movement itself.

its a basic concept.

The second amendment = implied violence? But once again, that was not what led to the downfall of the panthers......Infiltration of the organization through illegal cia and fbi operatives were successful in painting them as thugs, and gang members.
They successfully made their voices weak, not only to whites, but to blacks as well. Not through legal tactics, but rather planned propaganda and murder throughout the organization. Planting drugs, making up rumors and then arresting members on those rumors. To say their decision to arm was radical is fair, but arming themselves was rational and legal.

easier to paint an organization than utilizes violence as thugs than a non-violent one....

they would have been under surveillance and infiltrated regardless....as was every other black organization...

The fact they utilized violence as a key tenet of their philosophy just made them a bigger and easier target to dismantle..

MLK's movement did more for the black community than the Panthers did.

They accomplished nothing...unless you can direct me to a lasting change they precipitated

(BTW i was born and raised in oakland so make sure you come correct)
