Black Culture Discussion Thread

I agree with Pharrell's new black statement.

This sound like some Cthagod ****

Nah I don't agree with that ********. Whites are to blame for a lot of the problems that plague the inner city. I'm not blaming my people for not getting out of the systematic oppression. Whites put in centuries of conditioning to my people and while I have opportunities I'm not separating myself from them by being a "new black"

This is some white washed Uncle Tom ****

As long as you can point a finger at someone or something for your lack of success or station in life, you will never succeed. Black people are not helped so we should stop acting like it.

An Pharrell is correct it definitely is a matter of mentality. And if you feel you've been conditioned for mediocrity, then I feel sorry for you.

I'm not turnin my back on my people emotionally because they are stuck in oppression. Sorry.

It's levels to this **** and if you think it's as simple as "don't blame others" then you're just an ignorant *** *****

Centuries of physical and mental abuse was placed upon African Americans and to think it's that easy to reverse it in less than 50 years is laughable. Until blacks get piece of the economic pie they'll forever not be important.

During segregation black businesses thrived and the second it ended ****** couldn't wait to give their dollar to the white man.

It's ******* sad black woman buying hair product from Korean owned black beauty stores. Like how ******* backwards is that. The lil hood corner stores aren't even owned by blacks. It's pathetic.

Mexicans get a lot of flack down here in the south but when I go to their community I see nothing but businesses owned by them. Respect to them.

And I know I'm all over the place with this post

New black can suck my ****...you don't need a title to separate yourself from the ones who might need guidance and support. How can you help someone when you going around calling yourself that dumb ****...you already alienated them from the jump

You're right in that regard. You are stuck in oppression.

I'm not stuck in ****. I was raised well but at the same time I never tried to alienate myself from folks who had a harder life than me. I help and come to them on their level. I don't carry a dumbass title and arrogance like I'm better than them. That's real black love...y'all bougie *** dudes some tap dancing *****

Rather deal with a racist then an Uncle Tom.

We SHOULD stop blaming others for our problems at this point, though.

When I was a kid, me and my friends were well aware of the idea that the only way you could make it out of the hood was to sell drugs or get a record deal or make it big as an athlete. We talked about it, and internalized it. Luckily my mother addressed that concept directly to me and told me that it was BS. Unfortunately a lot of my friends had parents or caretakers who either agreed with that piece of conditioning or didnt bother to tell their kids otherwise. Now most of those cats I grew up with are living out that self-fulfilling prophecy. A lot of them didnr make it out, and they still believe the above mentioned methods are the only ways to make it out, and they're teaching their kids to keep that cycle of poverty going until someone down the line becomes trapper/rapper/athlete of the year.

A LOT of our oppression at this point is mental and self-imposed. I woild NEVER deny the hand we've been dealt over centuries in this country, but the Black community is ABSOLUTELY NOT doing enough to straight up fold our hand and start over. Instead we're commiserating and complaining to each other and after we've finished complaining to eachother we fall back feeling glad that we got that off our chests.

We're still promoting negativity and oppression as our thing, still dividing ourselves along the lines of "new blacks" (the haves) and those who are "real" (the have nots).

There's DEFINITELY levels to this ****. And we need to stop pointing fingers. My cousins coming home from prison, and my other cousin is still there. They were lied to all their lives to think they couldn't improve their lives through education or legal business or just the use of their own minds. When they're home, I talk to them, and they act like the way I see things is so foreign, and they consider what im saying and try to tell me "I cant do that cause its too late for me." They openly say "you're book smart, you can do that. I'm just a street cat this is where I shine. You're book smart and im street smart." Thats what theyve been subtly told their whole lives, and they just went along with it until their lives got to be too much and their decisions (dropping out of school, getting chicks pregnant and having kids, getting a felony on their record) basically destroyed their options. All because nobody told them that what those older dudes on the block have been telling them is made up bull **** and not some sort of sage words from a wise survivor of the struggle.

We need to straight up throw away these overall mantras and mindsets we are giving eachother. We're telling eachother we're less-than, encouraging behaviour of those who are less-than, being mad about feeling less-than.

Lets just top the whole "less-than" culture altogether.

Nope. Black people teach their youths to maintain the cycle of poverty. Any oppression African-Americans feel in this day and age is merely contrived, for we live in a post-racial society.  The black community's power structure is fragmented due to poor/tardy attendance at the weekly Black Community meetings, resulting in little to no change.

I agree that we should stop blaming people's ancestors for our problems now. But there is racism in this world. That shuts doors for black people. Pretending there isnt any racism won't do us any good.

With the hand black people were dealt I think we are moving up pretty quickly, tho there is room for improvement

Completely agree. Self hatred in the black community is really holding us back. Black folk are just as bad as whites when it comes to saying "black people should/shouldn't act a certain way" or "he does [non stereotype activity/adjective] He aint black enough" and all that ignorant ********. Getting black people to believe we should adhere to certain stereotypes is a mechanism those in power use to maintain the status quo.

Exactly ....that's my issue with that dumbass title

Black people always find a way to separate only to still be a *****

Its lightskin vs darkskin all over again. White people laugh at us cuz it's all the same to them. No other race gives a **** about skin complexion amongst black people. But I will admit lightskinned ****** have an advantage in the fact that they are seen as more attractive and less threatening to white people.

This current racism was passed down from the ancestors...that's not hard to grasp...you trace their bloodlines and look what it leads too....

But w/e...centuries of **** can change in a finger snap #newblack

It's all on how you present yourself...tone don't matter...imo

Didnt see your edited post but Obama, who won minority and youth vote by promising troops would come back, immigration reform, cheaper college, etc did none of those things. First thing he did when he was sworn in back in 08 was bomb Gaza. Took troops out of Iraq for a couple months but is sending them back in. All these "non-wars" are meaningless titles. America has not declared war in Yemen because there are no troops on the ground? So as long as he keeps bombing them and missing his targets it's not a war. If you count all these non-wars he has been just as bad as Bush. I'm not sure if he is more cost effecient, or if he has tricked the world into thinking he is. I honestly don't care. When you are 17 trillion in debt, that pretty much shows these numbers are meaningless.

I'm never voting in my life. This guy is pretty much the black George Bush. Hillary Clinton is pretty much the "no contest" democratic candidate. Do you know what she has been doing all these years? Well besides being Obama's commander in chief, she has also lobbied for many companies that profit off war and turmoil in the middle east (coughfemaledickcheneycough).

I'm never voting in my life. Democrat or Republican you have the same end result.

Swear Knowledge...idk if it's because we came from the same area but we have had a lot of the same experiences.

I think part of all black scholarships should include a certain amount of community service. Force these 'new blacks' to have to go play ball in the hood. Force them to give back to the kids that made fun in them. It'll help them and the kids they help, hell when they get admitted to college...hell not just blacks but white folks should have to go into po rural areas, Asians to their areas etc. at least for a few hrs.

At this point I'm more ashamed at how we treat each other. I fear being discrimiated against by my own black people than any other race.

Very true. I was accosted by Mr Marcus' words on this last page, simply for having a differect opinion. He seems to be the type to start fighting when he runs out of curse words. An it's that kind of negative behavior that we use towards one another that needs to stop. But Mr Marcus will tell you that white people conditioned him to be like that, so it's not his fault. So nothing will ever change.

Example I said I love me some me and cats jumped on the 'he's high' train. Any time a black dude says he loves himself, the world hates him, including other black folks. The hate in the black community toward Randy Moss for the 'straight cash homie' and Terrell Owens for the 'I love me some me' was astounding. Like, they were out there doing it, but they were both 'ignorant country ******' so even black folk looked down on them, but what did they do? Showed some swag, everyone, even other blacks, demand we are humble.

This literally blows my mind because outside of being called a name or not being "Accepted" that's about as far black "discrimination" is gonna go. However cops can treat you however they feel like, the courts will clearly not give you the same chance as someone of another color, jobs will discriminate based solely off your skin color, wealthier neighborhoods statistically have a much larger % of whites in it than blacks & are known for making it harder for blacks to move in to them.

Yet despite white supremacy and discrimination happening in the school system, the Law system, the Job structure, The housing structure (Which are all predominately ran by white people & all show a predominately biased separation btwn whites & blacks) you somehow feel that you are more likely to be discriminated by a black person than a white person.

This is what this new black & all this talk of there being no "white privilege" is bringing along. Despite years upon years of studies and statistics showing that yes blacks are HEAVILY discriminated against in this country by whites, we now have black people who think other blacks are doing more damage to our communities which is completely false.
