Black Culture Discussion Thread

Are you agreeing with me or providing an example of how people have bad comprehension skills?

The vid is clips of him saying how he was open about his Jamaican heritage even when it wasn't cool and that he started making hip-hop before 73; it just took off that year.

"Also, its weird when people bring in hip-hop/rap into these convos since it was founded by DJ Kool Herc, a Jamaican immigrant."

Kool Herc would not agree with this statement.

No single person "founded" Hip Hop/Rap.

Hip Hop/Rap is Black Culture. Not Jamaican, not West Indian, not Puerto Rican.

The first thing the father should have done is turn off the phone.

By posting it, he engages in the same foolishness as his son.

Secondly - a man should teach his son stoicism.

Acting out of emotion, shouting, beating your chest, and slapping your son for the world to see, isn't manly at all.

Take him to the gun range and teach him.

Drive him to a courthouse and let him see what happens when that gavel comes down.

There are so many options that would lead to better outcomes.

The resentment on his son's face is heartbreaking.

Performative discipline is crazy.

“So many options that would lead to better outcomes”………how do you know the smack upside the son’s head didn’t lead to a better outcome??

She looks burnt-out

She has seen some things...

After the Obama family returns from their post-inauguration vacation to Palm Springs, three of them—Barack, Michelle, and Sasha—will readjust to civilian life in Kalorama, a D.C. neighborhood located just two miles from their old digs. The missing family member? That would be 18-year-old Malia, who’s reportedly off to a new adventure: an internship for mega-producer Harvey Weinsten.

Despite her age, Malia already has a fair amount of experience in the entertainment industry: she spent some of the summer of 2015 assisting crew members on the set of HBO’s Girls, and reportedly had a similar gig on the set of Halle Berry’s sci-fi drama Extant the previous year (where she “fetched coffee and got no special treatment,” at least according to the Daily Mail).

Clearly, there’ll be a lot more for her to learn at the Weinstein Company: Harvey Weinstein is a notorious mover and shaker in Hollywood, a comeback kid whose producing prowess and reputation for waging fierce Oscar campaigns has inspired admiration, envy, and every other emotion on the spectrum. (His former assistant Leslye Headland, now a successful screenwriter and director in her own right, wrote a scathing 2008 play based in part on her experience working for Weinstein, called Assistance.)

The music Herc sampled break beats and loops from were JAMES BROWN, a black American. Keef Cowboy from the Furious 5 is the one who coined the phrase “hip hop”

The most sample man/and break beats were derived from James Brown… a black American:lol:  from the south.

Jamaican music gets sampled as well and they’ve played a part.

Ask the average native Jamaican, they HATE rap music.

Most of the Jamaicans who enjoy hip hop were raised in America, go to the island and they prefer dancehall/reggae

Ironically, that idiot Kai didn’t even know who KILLER MIKE was, but talking about culture

Can you timestamp a section? Not watching a 30 minute video of some random youtuber piecing together clips. The last one was already pushing it.

Agreed. Hell, plenty of older Black Americans (65+) also HATE hip-hop. Thats aside from the creation point though. I'm just highlighting the irony of the statement.

Me personally? Plenty kd things roll off my back without much of a 2nd (or 3rd) thiught. But there will be times where you catch me at a bad moment and I will dwell on the smallest thing ever.

I wonder if that as a bad moment for Mr. MIT.

I see Boyce's point

These be the same dudes that want other black folk to know they went to MIT or some ivy without you even asking like they better than you.

This hierarchy shh be a mf. All fun and games when you think you the top dawg when someone else comes along and reminds you you beneath them

House negroes, field negoes is alive and well. The one pulling the strings still sees you as beneath them cuz equality threatens their whiteness and the supposed God's gift to mankind that comes with it.

Exactly. I just be wanting to see people exist in their true nature and get money. I love seeing brothers at Ivy League schools and being Rhodes Scholars.

I always think about Myron Rolle’s story as a big time football recruit and he was a Rhodes Scholar. Eventually went to School at Harvard medical.

Some of them (like Mr.MIT) up their don’t realize that they already BELONG there. Who cares about being mislabeled. Be confident. As long you know you’re out here being productive and doing your thing, just do you.

Kinda how Bobby Dixon is the father of Reggaeton.
