Hey NT,

THIS ISN'T ABOUT FREE SHOES

In light of the current state of race relationships that have been magnified by the execution of young Mike Brown, I suggested in that thread that we do something.

If you don't agree or think this is stupid, then by all means, block me, ignore the thread. Please do not troll.

I'm asking NT to help spread the word thru social media. Get all these artists who advertise for JB and other brands on IG to quit for the month of September. I'm asking NTers to NOT purchase any releases in September and donate to the Michael Brown fund.

The gist of the movement is this.

- Let's not buy sneakers in September -whether you buy 1 pair a month or 10.

- Instead, let's donate that money, or a part of it, to the Michael Brown fund.

- While supporting the movement we bring awareness to our cause.

- Not buying from the big business is just another way to show solidarity to the black community who is organizing a don't spend money day.

It may seem futile to some but if WE band together, hurt their pockets, THEY WILL HAVE TO LISTEN.

Please contribute, POSITIVELY, so we can begin this fight.

We cannot continue to turn our cheek at the racial injustice being practiced in America. Our dollars are the most important to these big companies and we need to show them that.

#RIPMIKEBROWN

This old JB ad seems somewhat appropriate for the thread.....

As much as I would like to believe that Nike/JB shares these sentiments, we know damn well they don't actually care about black people... or white people or Asians, or anyone else for that matter. Noble Idea OP, but you are drastically overestimating the power of NT if you think this will accomplish anything substantial. Hell... Most NTers frequenting General, myself included, don't even buy sneakers like that anymore.

I think Nike values their golf and football apparel dollars a lot more than sneakerhead dollars, but since I went over budget this month I'll stay away from buying kicks.

big sean adidas come out the 13th though

 but aight

It's a start.

If we donate what we would have spent on shoes to MBs family, it would be eye opening to the companies.

I'm open to criticism.

We keep buying their products and they dont invest in US.

At least 1 NTer is trying but to deaf ears.

Look at the reply. Dismissing what minorities go thru is unacceptable.

I kinda get what Stillin is saying...what good is protesting one month when you're just going back to buying when October rolls around? A bigger stand (obviously) would be just not buying anymore Nike products anymore.

I do applaud the idea, but in the big picture, it isn't going to amount to anything.

Nike doesn't care...and a lot of people don't have the principles to care either.

Question op...

September is right around the corner ..

Might not be enough time to organize...

What about October?

Also, this could have MAJOR traction if this can her stickied IB the Jordan and Nike threads.

We all know how many eyes are on nt...

This is an excellent idea

It's a start.

This "community" does ice bucket challenges but wont address the elephant in the room, which is sad.

I firmly believe if we get the #nosneakerseptember out to celebs and athletes, it will have a following that can hurt Nike.

Nothing will ever change if we dont try.

I agree but I couldn't come up with a witty 'O' name.

@Methodical Management   could we get a sticky and your support?

IF we come together and pledge at least 1 release to a fund that can go to the parents of MB it would bring even more positive out of this negative.

what exactly do you want Nike to do?
See us as more than a customer.

It's more a racial awareness. We make Nike billions...us black and brown folks that are not valued by the police.

Our dollars are more important than any other dollar. We spend the most.

Let's open the conversation. These companies need to support our communities

A few bloggers have retweeted and favorited the #nosneakerseptember so let's go.

We make things go viral everyday...this is no different.

I still dont understand why Nike has anything to do with this.

Im confused.
Our community is based around shoes.

Universities have nothing do with the tragedy yet their organizing nationwide walk outs on Monday.

It's to bring awareness.

Why is no one buying sneakers this month?  To bring attention to racial inequality.

Lol @ dudes trying to poke holes..

Yeah OP...

Since it's not completely revolutionary, might as well not eem do anything...

I mean... What's the point?

 :smh:

Y'all gotta be more optimistic

I'm lost here. you're saying the nike and other name brand athletic companies should support us because we buy their products?

The same could be said for every race

But how is not buying sneakers bringing awareness to racial inequalities?

Is nike going to make a press release at the end of september saying they lost a lot of money in shoe sales?

How will you know if this is a success? What happens in october?

your community is based around shoes? WHAT
Niketalk, bruh.

I said "SNEAKERS" cause thats what brought US here...Nike, Adidas, all of em.

Support in the form of doing more to acknowledge that we're more than a consumer.

Our minority dollars fuel their business...if they feel a hit, they'll be more inclined to open dialogue and bring awareness.

We're tired of being killed then being forgotten when a new story pops up.

the same way pouring ice on yourself brings awareness to Lou Gehrig's disease...

Or how a tight end wearing pink brings awareness to breast cancer...

When you put something on the forefront, the potential for new solutions increases because you have more minds focusing on solutions.
