Like literaly I got ZERO grants and had to take out sub and unsub loans... again.

And even the loans weren't enough to pay off my tuition this semester so now my parents gotta dig out their own pockets

and make a couple grand appear

There's gotta be other ways to get grants for next semester. Someone enlighten me.

Only single parent homes getting grants

Like the government grants

Waaa Waaa Waaaa, MY PARENTS! Bro, get a job, save some cash. I'm a junior and I've never got any fasfa or help from my parents. Pull your skirt up B

[emoji]128532[/emoji] I'm jk. I'm hating that your parents help you out. It's all good fam. Stay in school. It will be worth it in the end. ( I really am a junior tho, and I really don't get parental help lol )

 @ the thread title...

Try junior college first...

Then come im with a killer GPA so the school gives you scholarhips

Student loans and College.........

Just network instead

Your network is your net worth

Times are diff.

I get grants and have both of my parents?? Wth

Like pell grants? Most government grants are need base so usually a two parent home will eliminate the chance unless they're both not making much (no shot)

Maybe it factors in cost of living....would still eliminate two parent homes in the south lol

There are opportunities for grants out there outside of filling out a FAFSA. You just gotta do some research on them and then put in the work to get them, which usually requires writing.

I say that, yet I was too lazy to do all that back in college.

I'm currently going into my junior year as well in college. I know there are people who have it worst so you guys are dead right that I should try to see the good. But it's just so hard sometimes seeing my parents get stressed over all these tuition and some there stupid mandatory fees. I work on campus as well but I use that on gas money and lunch

At age 24, declare "independence" then if you're not working. Put down 0$ income.

Yes pell grants, two parent home, and in TX

This is a tip for the older students but I ain't about to wait around until I'm 24 with no job :x

Damn that's crazy....lucky you cause I know a lot of folks that don't get any grants in NC and their parents be working class folks

I get between 3-4K in grants every year. If you want grants you gotta fill out that FASFA as soon as you and your parents get your W2s (jan-feb). Some people wait too long, grants are first come first serve pretty much.

Was really worried about not getting a Pell Grant this year because if academic issues but the check came in the mail Friday. **** was relieving

If it didn't come in I'd have to pay out of pocket which would have been almost all the money I earned working this summer. Now I can save up during the semester.

Better start writing essays and such for individual scholarships available. Go to tour financial aid office they should have plenty of applications. Also check your neighborhood and school library.

Then your parents are broke or they're gaming the system. No shots.

OP if you're a dependent you're only gonna qualify for pell grants if you're Expected Family Contribution meets the criteria. Basically your parent(s) combined income has to be less than 50K a year. It can be pretty hard to qualify coming from a two parent household, hell in a state like CA where there's a high cost of living it can be hard for people from single parent homes to qualify.

As soon as you're 24 it's crucial that you file as a independent. Your EFC will be 0 and you're guaranteed the maximum $5,730 or whatever it is this year.  Your only other options are private scholarships and grants which are out there but like someone else said you have to work for them, there might be GPA requirements, etc. Go to fastweb.com and you can compile a list of grants that you qualify for.

If it's not to late go the Junior College route and save thousands of dollars on your way to the exact same place.
