Houston Texans Pre-Season 2015 - Hoyer's The Starter....By GAWD KING!!!

I can't even be mad, this team is average and that's all. I do get upset when they make stupid mistake, especially when their room for error is slim.
This is why I honestly just want them to get the highest pick possible because they need a QB. 6,7,8 wins does nothing for me, especially when you don't have a young QB that your team is growing with. I'd be ok with 6,7,8 wins on a team that has a promising young QB going through growing pains. Right now that state of the Texans is rather bleak, you have some very good players but the entire roster is pretty crap overall. I'd like to see them build this team with some consistency at least, if you want to draft for speed do that, physicality do that, etc. I just don't see any direction as of now, and this why Rick Smith should've been out the door with Kubiak.

Aggies = Texans

It's hard to be mad when they lose because you know they aren't good and aren't going anywhere this year.

This team stinks. 3 of the 4 games they lost were clearly on the table to win. That's what really pisses me off. Mistakes from basically everybody on the team in some form or fashion. I'm fully on board with Mallett or Savage starting for the rest of the season, regardless of how the season goes. The Fitz placeholder experiment is over, as he (and others) has managed to place us under .500 and nearly be one of the worst teams in the league.

Mhm sure.

Cushing injured again, and it's looking like they want him back after the bye versus the Browns. Cush :-(

Cushing is done boys been trash ever since he stopped juicing

That video up there of the stunt with Mercilus

I want them running that more but with Watt

Thats one of the ways Aldon got a lot of his sacks in the past

And I know its a horrible thing to wish injury on someone but **** man I dont think I can stand watching Fitz back there anymore

Hoping BOB makes the switch after the bye week at QB

to see if we have anything in Mallet or Savage

Forget the bye week, that switch needs to happen right now. Reminds me of last year when they just continued to trot Schaub out there knowing things weren't going to get any better

Even the blind can see we need a QB.

They have to draft a franchise QB or acquire a somewhat capable body.

Going into next season with the same QB group would just be admitting defeat before you ever even take a snap.

If we make the switch, and mallet sucks, then what?

Then you actually made a decisive decision and you know what you have. If you go on an 0-4 Mallett streak, we're at 3-7, headed towards MM8. Put Savage in there and lets say he gets you 2-4/1-5....well, the future is on its way

why the hell would we trade for Mallett with one year left on his deal and not give a chance to play at some point? It is going to happen.

Just heard that the only fully healthy LBs that practiced today were Tuggle, Mike Mohammod, and Akeem Dent. The ****

Texans’ Brian Cushing: ‘I haven’t been myself’

Brian Cushing hasn’t been close to 100 percent during recent games.

Fans have noticed it. The Texans linebacker knows it.

“I think we can all kind of agree and see the last couple weeks I really haven’t been myself,” Cushing said Friday at NRG Stadium. “And that’s something that has been really hard on me.”

Cushing didn’t practice Wednesday and Thursday. Friday, he spoke with the media for the first time since a Monday night road loss to Pittsburgh, when Cushing was often exposed in the Texans’ defense.

Texans coach Bill O’Brien and Cushing said the same about the linebacker’s official status. Cushing is day-to-day and will travel to Nashville, Tenn., where a decision will be made about him playing in Sunday’s game against the Titans. However, Cushing acknowledged he’s weighing his short- and long-term options and missing several games remains a possibility.

“If it was just soreness and pain I could play through it,” said Cushing, who acknowledged back-to-back season-ending injuries have taken a toll on his knee. “But if it’s a point where I could be hurting something or doing something worse, then we have to take into the account the decision about what’s best for everyone.”

He added: “People kind of tend to forget how much the knee has gone through.”

Cushing will stick to his training and rehab routine prior to Sunday, then evaluate whether he can play at full speed before making a final decision. The linebacker has made progress this week and the initial results have been encouraging.

“I’m not going to make any excuses but it’s been frustrating, especially with how much work and stuff goes into it in the offseason and during the season,” Cushing said. “I was feeling good and there’s a lot more football to play. So this is going to be a decision based on how I feel and based upon the rest of the season.”

Asked if he could miss several games, Cushing sighed.

“You know, I don’t know. I don’t know,” Cushing said. “I think we’ll know a little bit more this Sunday. … There’s a lot of options here and a lot of different ways we can go. I’m going to do everything I can to play.”

Several Texans have said they’ll proudly fill in on the field Sunday if Cushing can’t play. Replacing his leadership and emotion won’t be as easy.

“I think about everything,” Cushing said. “When you have something going on like this, there’s a thousand thoughts racing through your mind every single second. I overanalyze everything. Especially the last two years when I haven’t been able to play, that’s all I’ve been doing is thinking.”

At this point no  it's just the fact that this is the point we're at, where we basically have a Street Team of linebackers.

*Here are Five Things to Watch when the Texans face the Tennessee Titans this Sunday at noon CT in Nashville.

1. Clowney at last?: For the first time since Week 1, it appears Jadeveon Clowney will be on the field at outside linebacker. The first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft notched a tackle for loss in the win over Washington, but left the game in the first half with a knee injury that would later require surgery.

He's been rehabbing it since, and said Thursday that he should be ready to play.

"I would be surprised if I didn’t play," Clowney said. "I’ve been running, but it still isn’t the same as running around on a football field. Just getting back out here now, being out there with my team, seeing how I feel.”

He practiced with his teammates all three days this week, as well as twice last week, and worked out before the game against the Steelers. He was ruled inactive in Pittsburgh, and although he's said positive things and done positive things on the practice field, the head coach still wouldn't guarantee a Clowney return.

"He’s looked better and better every day," O'Brien said. "I do believe that. I wouldn’t say that he’s 100 percent sure for Sunday."

Whenever Clowney is back in game action, his plays will be limited and so will his role on the defense, according to defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel.

“Probably third down plays, because he hasn’t been practicing," Crennel said. "You can put him in on third downs and you can just rush the passer with him and see how that goes."
2. Zac Attack: For the second time this season, the Texans defense will face a rookie quarterback. Zac Mettenberger gets his first start under center for the Titans, and if his day is anything like Derek

Carr's was in Week 2, it'll be a rough one.

At Oakland that afternoon, Houston Carr and the Raiders by a 30-14 margin. Crennel's crew picked off the rookie signal-caller twice, and held the Raiders to 2-of-9 on third down. Crennel said the Titans will likely try to accentuate the things the 6-foot-5 inch strong-armed passer does well.

"I think that if they think that he has certain strengths, I think they’ll try to play to his strengths rather than play to any weakness that he might have," Crennel said. "I think that they’ll look to what his strong points are and play to his strong points.”

Head coach Bill O'Brien and the Texans evaluated Mettenberger during the path to the 2014 NFL Draft, and O'Brien was impressed with what he saw from the former LSU Tiger.

"I felt like he was a smart guy," O'Brien said. "I felt like he knew his LSU offense really well. I felt like he had a strong arm. He was a big guy. I saw some decent things.”
3. Eliminate the bad quarter: In each of the last two games, the Texans have endured a quarter in

which they've allowed 24 points. The Colts came out firing in Week 6 and staked themselves to a 24-0 advantage after 15 minutes of play. On Monday night, the Steelers erupted for 24 points in the span of 2:54 at the end of the first half. In each of those games, the Texans lost by 7 points or less.

A tourniquet would've been ideal, but a heavy bandage could've stopped the bleeding enough to provide for a Texans victory. Fixing assignment errors, according to O'Brien, is just what the Texans need to keep games from getting out of hand.

"It’s more about focusing and concentration, taking care of the ball, staying on sides, being able to handle being a good crisis manager," O'Brien said. "When something’s going bad, being able to say, ‘You know what? We’re going to stop this right now.’"

The Titans managed to score 21 points in the second quarter of their Week 5 loss to the Browns. The most they've put up in a quarter outside of that outburst was 10 points in a few different games earlier this year.
4. Linebacker depth: At both the inside and outside linebacker spots, the Texans are banged up. At

various points this week, Brian Cushing, Jeff Tarpinian, John Simonand Brooks Reed didn't practice because of injury. The latter two are outside linebackers, while the former two play inside.

If any or all are absent on Sunday in Nashville, the defense will need some help.

"You‘ve just got to find someone else," defensive end Jared Crick said." We’ve got plenty of guys that can do that. We have plenty of leaders on this defense."

One such leader is defensive end J.J. Watt, who's best in the NFL with 22 quarterback hits. He's also

tallied five sacks, six batted passes and scored a pair of touchdowns on defense. Watt's seen an array of blocking schemes thrown his way, which is something he put in perspective this week.

"Everybody has their own version of throwing something at me and that’s fine, whether it’s double-teams, triple-teams, chips, extra guys, slides," Watt said. "You name it, I’ve seen it and that’s fine. That’s part of the challenge. I’ve always enjoyed it. If you’re going to send two or three guys at me, there are 10 other guys on the defense you have to worry about."

One player on the rise recently is Whitney Mercilus. The outside linebacker has five tackles for loss in his last three games. On Monday night he dropped Ben Roethlisberger for two sacks, and also forced a fumble. The opposition has noticed.

“I think Mercilus is playing well for them," Tennessee head coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "Their defensive front does a nice job. They’re very active."
5. Numbers for playmakers: Every week, Andre Johnson reaches another career milestone. If he

gets 42 receiving yards, he'll pass Andre Reed and move into 13th place on the NFL's all-time receiving yards list. He's also just four yards shy of 400 for the season.

Meanwhile, DeAndre Hopkinsneeds 26 yards to get to 400. In tandem with running back Arian Foster, who's atop the AFC in rushing yards with 615, the Texans would be the only team in the conference with a 400-yard rusher and a pair of 400-yard receivers.

If Foster manges to gain 100 yards, it'd be the first time in his career he had 100 or more in four consecutive games.

Supposedly, Akeem Dent is starting in Cushing's spot. Akeem Dent, who has only played on special teams and taken no snaps on defense.

On the flipside, Clowney byyyyyyyyke :smokin

Much needed win if yawl are actually wanting the Texans in the playoffs. They got after Mettenberger like they should have, even though they let up a bit near the end. Watt & Foster :pimp: played like the big time players they are, and Foster is coming after Murray. Andre climbing up the HOF charts, and Hopkins made a lot of nice catches and didn't put it on the ground. The line HAS to play better moving forward. It's sickening watching a lot of these 3 and out plays with the pocket collapsing and Fitz being indecisive. Blue & Damaris Johnson has a couple nice plays too.
