Alright since the practice squad is set and the 53 man roster looks set, I figured I'd finally make a new thread. I'll update the depth as soon as they put one out that not a slideshow.

The Houston Texans have been doing some wheeling and dealing for the past couple of days since Thursday night’s slaughtering by the San Francisco 49ers.

The Texans have announced their 10-man practice squad and the following players have been named to it:

DE Keith Browner
ILB Max Bullough
TE Anthony Denham
T Matt Feiler
C James Ferentz
G Alex Kupper
WR Travis Labhart
WR Uzoma (EZ) Nwachukwu
FB Toben Opurum
CB Marcus Williams

I’m sure these men are quite relieved to know they still have an opportunity to pursue their dream of playing football professionally. Maybe some of them can make enough of an impression to get off the squad for good either with the Texans or elsewhere.

Labhart, an undrafted rookie out of Texas A&M, a favorite prospect of mine, with his work ethic when given the opportunity this past preseason was admirable. He could be a serious threat in the slot and it’s good the Texans kept him on to develop him. Labhart caught six balls for 67 yards for the preseason.

Bullough, the undrafted rookie, two-time academic All-American and Big Ten First-Team recipient out of Michigan State made an strong campaign to make the final roster. But it was still not enough to get a spot. He will now have some time this season to develop while on the squad. Bullough had 14 tackles and one interception the preseason. He was also another favorite of mine.

Nwachukwu spent last season on the practice squad but was brought into camp with the opportunity to win a spot. His effort went fruitless as it seems Bill O’Brien wants to go with DeVier Posey and Keshawn Martin as the second and third backups at the WR position. Nwachukwu caught five balls for 32 yards in the preseason. He still has a shot and I hope he gets it.

Kupper was also a member of last year’s practice squad and had the opportunity to appear in four games and start two this preseason. He was the odd man out as the Texans look to Brandon Brooks, Xavier Su’a-Filo and Ben Jones to fill the remaining guard slots. It’s good to know he’ll be on the practice squad.

Opurum, an undrafted free agent, was a holdover from the 2013 roster and was signed to the active roster late in the season from the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. With the already crowded field of backup running backs in Alfred Blue, Jonathan Grimes and Ronnie Brown, there was just no space for him. But O’Brien does see some value in him and that’s why he is still here.

Browner did have a few blips in the radar. He had five tackles in the preseason.

Williams was a long shot to make the 53-man roster but he is good enough to fill out the 10-man roster as he works to hone his talents.

Ferentz was an undrafted rookie out of Iowa, was used sparingly but he may be of value to develop for the future in place of the veteran Chris Myers.

Denham and Feiler were also undrafted rookies but it was rather difficult for them to make the 53-man roster with Ryan Griffin, C.J. Fiedorowicz, Derek Newton and Tyson Clabo being the presumptive backups at their positions.

I thought Thomas was a lock for the slot...

There's also some nice players that got cut. Hopefully we pick some of em up.

Yea I thought Thomas was a lock too, especially when Labhart originally got cut

The WR we picked up is 5'-8" 175lbs.

More than likely KR duties. Notice we have 5 RBs (including the FB). I didn't think Ronnie Brown would make the team, but he looked good during the few times he touched the ball. Maybe they anticipate him being 2010 Derrick Ward to relieve Foster in spurts, along with simply being a veteran

New thread guiiiiise :smokin

wow...Matt Schaub beat out by a rookie

Matt Schaub took David Carr's job and in return David Carr's little brother takes Matt Schaubs job.

Funny how that works

^

Crazy

McGloin deserved the job more but Carr has the measurables NFL GMs want and he was pretty good in preseason.

If McGloin was that good I see the Raiders cutting Schaub if Carr holds his own. No way they pay him starter money to be 3rd string.

The Texans only got a 7th rounder for Schaub but that's better than nothing for a guy that's done

Watt resigned 6 yr/99 mil, with 51 mil guaranteed. Great to lock him up :pimp: couldn't have him being poached by these scumbag teams :smokin

I hope Brady rubbed enough off of Mallett cause we need a elite QB

Don't get your hopes up.

Matt Schaub was never the same after that injury, dude just completely fell apart.

I just want them to beat the cowboys, that would be the highlight of the season for me. Looking at the first 5 games though, we actually could be 3-2 because I think all those teams are going to suck.

unfortunately, i think we'll accidentally be in the medioce/average group of the NFL. not good enough to make the playoffs, not bad enough for too high of a pick

Danieal Manning thrilled to be back with Texans

Danieal Manning may be wearing a new number – 27 because rookie defensive back Andre Hal inherited his 38 – and he won’t be a starter, at least straight away, but otherwise he says, “Everything’s still the same, all the same.” He joked that the Texans “thought they were seeing a ghost” when Manning appeared back on the practice field again Tuesday morning.

The had Texans asked Manning to take a pay cut to stay with the team after last season, more than half of which he missed with a fractured fibula suffered against the St. Louis Rams Oct. 13. He declined and got released, but he went to great lengths to not burn any bridges with the Texans. So, when things didn’t work out for him with the Cincinnati Bengals this summer – they cut him over the weekend – general manager Rick Smith brought Manning back.

“Rick kept his word,” Manning said. “He told me if an opportunity came, he’d bring me back. I was joking with the guys. I just took a little vacation. I didn’t want to practice in this heat.”

Manning was reunited with his Texans secondary coach, Vance Joseph, in Cincinnati and played in every preseason game but said he got “caught in a numbers situation.” The Texans made room for him by releasing the player they had signed during free agency to replace him, Chris Clemons. Clemons had started 16 games for Miami last season, while Manning only played in six games for the Texans.

“I made every practice and played in every game,” Manning said of his brief tenure with the Bengals. “I feel like I executed all I could do.”

He practiced Tuesday morning with the special teams as a kick returner but said, “I don’t know if I’ll start” against Washington Sunday. Coach Bill O’Brien has given that job to the incumbent, Keyshawn Martin. Manning had been one of the NFL’s best kick returners when he was with the Bears, but Gary Kubiak was afraid to expose him to injury when he came to Texans as a premium free agent in 2011.

Manning said he was talking to Hal about reclaiming No. 38, admitting he thought something could be worked out, possibly if a little cash changed hands.

Almost football time!! Looking forward to the season and watching Watt and Clowney act a fool on opposing offenses.

Anyone going to any games this year? I'm thinking about going to the Eagles game.

I'm extremely happy you guys got mallet, I lived him in college and like others have said hopefully Brady rubbed off him, but I think he will do fine, I'm rooting for you guys this year

I'm worried that Manning got cut because he was washed, Cinncy could use the safety help. I wonder if Manning has any speed left in those legs to return kicks.

We released Chris Clemons??
I thought he was supposed to be nice lol

How did he look in preseason?

Also what's our starting safety's gonna look like?
DJ and Lewis?

REALLY wanted to go to the Giants or Cowboys games but ima be in colombia until early November so that's out the question smh.
Only ones I could choose from would be Cleveland, Jacksonville, or Indy. Comes down to watching us play Manziel if he plays or Luck lol. Ill prolly decide if i want to settle for those games later as the season goes by.

If you do have the opportunity to go tho I highly suggest you do. You'll heave a great time.
I went to the thanksgiving game in Detroit a couple years ago and it was live dab! Had a really good time and the game was even better since it was close the whole way down to the wire.

I thought Clemons was supposed to be nice too  I guess it was cause he was caught on too many play actions, leaving Bouye out to dry on like 3 plays that I remember. And yea, DJ and Lewis with Keo/Pleasant and Manning backing them up

Coach Bill O’Brien named three of the Texans’ four starting linebackers on Wednesday.

Brian Cushing (inside/middle), Brooks Reed (strongside outside) and rookie Jadeveon Clowney (weakside outside) will initially take the field against the Washington ******** on Sunday at NRG Stadium.

The fourth linebacker position (inside) will be decided closer toward kickoff. Whitney Mercilus, Mike Mohamed, Justin Tuggle, Jeff Tarpinian and Akeem Dent, among others, are candidates for the final spot in the team’s two-gap 3-4 defense.

“They all have a chance to be in there. And, you know, we move those guys around quite a bit,” O’Brien said at NRG Stadium. “Some guys will play inside, some guys will play outside; it’s not like a set four. It’s more like, OK, what is this package? What is that package? What is the best thing for us versus what the Washington ******** are going to do?”

Garrett Graham has a minor back injury, and will more than likely be out at least a week. Griffin and Fedora got the juice now

Funny thing, just heard the running back we signed before the season started and cut (Andre Brown) is about to face an 8 game suspension. This will make it very hard for him getting on a team as a FA. Thankfully this didn't happen if he was needed as a Texan.
