I'm terrified Mallett has a couple good games, enough to think we don't need a QB, then he stinks next year. Terrified.

BOB is a realist, that doesn't scare me. 

What i am scared about is him not committing to a QB in the draft because he feels his job security will be attached to a QB's success. With the way the cap and salaries are, there is no reason not to take a chance on a QB. Both Teddy and Manziel were there for the Texans taking last year, instead we decided to move forward. 

I don't like the argument that we'd be "wasting" a draft pick on one of them, because Smith doesn't hit on many draft picks anyways lol 
 
Finally, maybe now they can utilize more of the field. Man I'll be pissed if they don't target a QB in the first two rounds next year, I don't need anyone telling me anything about well maybe Savage is the future, **** no he isn't. I also get tired of people making the argument that you can find gems in the later rounds and then point to Brady, Montana, Wilson, etc.
 
Ditto to them not picking a QB in the 1st or 2nd round next year. That is such a necessity it's not even funny. It sucks being at this state, as Schaub was a good QB not too long ago, and both Peyton Manning & Ben Roethlisberger were both legit targets at one time.
 
Pretty sure ya'll heard the field monster got Kareem too. An MCL sprain. He'll either be back for the Browns game, or the following week. Man, what happened to this field??? It didn't used to be like that
 
What if the QBs in the upcoming draft are less than impressive? Frankly if Mallet is impressive for the rest of the season then that's a gamble they're gonna have to take going into 2015. Almost like what Philly has done with Foles.

It's the situation the team has put themselves into.

The Houston Texans returned to work after their bye refreshed and eager to see if quarterback Ryan Mallett can help turn around the offense in his first NFL start on Sunday at Cleveland.

Coach Bill O'Brien benched Ryan Fitzpatrick in favor of Mallett before the break in an attempt to improve Houston's struggling offense. O'Brien, who first coached him when he was an assistant with the Patriots in 2011, can't wait to see the fourth-year player get a chance to start.

O'Brien says: "This is his opportunity to go out there and lead this team, and he's excited ... and we're looking forward to seeing what he can do."


Johnathan Joseph cleared to play

Johnathan Joseph returned to practice after clearing the NFL’s concussion protocol early Monday.

“J-Jo (Joseph) was out there today and looked good," head coach Bill O'Brien said after practice. "It looks like he’ll be ready to go."

The nine-year veteran cornerback, who had never had a prior concussion, suffered his first in Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles. According to Joseph, he took a knee to the helmet that caused him to leave the game in the first quarter. He remained on the sideline for the remainder of the game.


"I'm thankful for it, the way the league has responded to it, the way they are handling things," Joseph said of the league's five-step process. "Obviously, it gives the player the right mindset - that you're able to go back out there and focus on everything. The do take the proper steps to make sure that safety is first."

Kareem Jackson, who also left in the first quarter against the Eagles, has been day-to-day with a reported knee injury. According to O'Brien, Jackson may likely miss Sunday's game in Cleveland.

Players gain an extra practice day on Monday after their four days off during the bye week. The (4-5) Texans travel to Cleveland on Sunday to face the (6-3) Browns.
 
Hopefully mallet will do better then fitzpatrick. Its like we have a quartback curse or something. But thats not the only area that needs work.
 
Foster not playing or a blizzard won't be able to stop the deep ball of "Nolan" Ryan Mallett.
 
Very good start for Mallett, but I think along with that, the biggest thing I noticed was how well the O-line protected him. The running game did him some favors as well. Blue and Grimes picked up the slack big time. The defense played well for the most part. they gave up a lot of passing yards, but they thankfully kept them out the end zone. Talk about a difference in overall mechanics with Fitzpatrick and Mallett. The ball came out when it needed to, and WRs didn't have to come back to the ball. One thing I was a bit worried about beforehand was short passes from Mallett, cause I just didn't remembered if he ever did at AR. but I liked what I saw. Back to Reliant for Round 3 with the Bengals :lol:

It's so sad how happy I am that we have a quarterback with a real arm.

With that said, I was pleasantly surprised. We took shots deep. The interception sucked but at least we're challenging teams to play the whole field. If he had made his second read, the tight end had a 3 yard cushion for a td if mallett throws that way.

Alfred blue ran really well. Think some of it had to do with Cleveland not being a good run defense and not facing 8 in the box every play.
 
Just moved to Pennsylvania yesterday, so I didn't get to watch the game. Great B-day win. They seem happy to playing together.
 
I don't think Blue looked anywhere near as good as the stats indicated he played

Mallett showed some good things, but lets see how he does when defenses have game tape on him. Hopefully he doesn't go all Keenum on us

It also makes a huge difference just having Clowney out there. He is so damn athletic for his size, its crazy. Literally just the space he takes up with how big he is and his wingspan clogs a lot of open space

Not sure how the playoff race looks, but 9 wins isn't out of the question. at 5-5 now, we still have Jacksonville twice and the titans again. Gotta steal one or two from the Colts, Ravens, or Bengals next week.
