Houston Texans Pre-Season 2015 - Hoyer's The Starter....By GAWD KING!!!

Man I'm not even excited for this season. Does anyone else feel the same way?

With the front office, Bob McNair being stubborn about making changes, and the questions at QB ( and other areas) this just feels like a meh season. It's not even about being a fickle fan either, it's about being beaten down by this franchise. I'm glad I have the Rockets in this town ( 'Stros too now) :smokin

this year feels lateral if anything. still questions at quarterback. better defense, but arian hurt means worse offense.

for what it's worth, i thought going into last year's rockets season was a later move too...

we can hope.

Knowing that Teddy B will be a good QB while Xavier Su'a-Filo is currently in a walking boot just makes me facepalm

The Texans didn't want and would not have taken Teddy, according to "sources"

So y'all can quit playing that narrative

I'm not really not excited either. I just don't see much reason to be optimistic, other then the Titans and Jags being trash.

Best possible scenarios:

1. Mallett can hold his own and be a serviceable QB.

2. Mallett and Hoyer are both awful and we get a high pick to draft a QB.

We gotta get out of QB purgatory by whatever means necessary

Idk why posters keep continuing to ignore this as if the Texans were going to draft him if he was there at 33. Had he been there they were still going to pass on him. Whether that's the right decision remains to be seen.

Just like this report I saw the other day saying the team was in line to take Melvin Gordon only for San Diego to come in & swoop in conveniently before us. Funny how that report came out after Arian got hurt.

Everything was set up perfectly to take him after picking Clowney in the 1st, so I don't know how or why they wouldn't have taken him had Minnesota passed over him. I just don't believe that the Texans would have taken Su'a-Filo or someone else had Teddy not went to Minnesota. If that's true, then Smith should've cleaned out his office with a couple other guys as well.

The Texans had a first round grade on XSF

I get that people wanted the Texans to take Teddy, but it's been reported by many people now that the Texans weren't going to take him even if was there.

From that standpoint, if you want to be critical of the front office, have at it

BOB loved Bortles, he was the only QB they discussed drafting that high. Even the reports started coming out that that's the QB they were targeting. Their plan was to trade back up to get him but Jacksonville took him 3rd. They were never drafting Bridgewater.

Ftr I've been pretty much saying this for about a year I wasn't making this up. Guys like Mike Meltzer, Zierlein, Patrick Starr & Nick Wright have all said this on record.

If Hopkins makes the leap to a legit WR1, then maybe we have a shot at a decent season. All depends on the QB situation, but hopefully Mallet isn't too terrible.

I think Hopkins will surprise some people. I can be hopeful right?!

Chris Polk getting his shine on?

Screw you guys I'm optimistic about the season.

Outside of the thirst for a QB I think we have a solid team. We have depth to hang with the Colts but yea, Andrew Luck.

Yea I'm not on the sulking bandwagon of looking forward to a 2-14 season either. I feel like the defense will be one of the tops. Just have to get more than adequate QB play so the defense won't be on the field for 35+ minutes.

Also, as I was coming from Twin Peaks, saw an odd number of Niner fans down Kirby. A lot of them looked very dusty, but still, that's way too many Niner fans for it to be in Houston.

Don't count Clowney out. He's just gotta stay in the field. He impacts the game by just being huge and taking up space

Hoyer to Shorts :smokin

O-line needs to play better

Special teams opening up looking special still, without Joe Marciano

Nice pursuit by the defense

Savage came in there like a savage

Really good defensive series before then to get the ball back. Brown and Ankrah going full speed out there

boys need a reality check. sorta like the middling rockets for all those years.

if you want to contend, you won't do it wishing on a star and hoping we magically slide into the playoffs. what then? we rock the varsity jackets and get mopped by a team like the pats again? can't hide behind a weak division every decade...

in order to contend, you have to build and build right. we've hit the mark on DL, but missed it/been mediocre pretty much everywhere else. won't legit believe in this squad contending until we get a new GM, just like the Rox

Notes from game:

- between Hoyer and Mallet, neither of them made any throws down the field, so I can't say either guy really showed me anything

- Savage made a couple real elusive moves and turned chicken **** into chicken salad

- Blue had a few nice runs. He looks like he's developed some patience instead of just mashing turbo.

- Assuming D Johnson makes the team (cause we have a lot of options at WR), him and Shorts could wreck havoc in the slot.

- Chandler Worthy looks like he could be a legit return man.

- Dylan Thompson is the worst QB I've ever seen play in an NFL game

Edit: it was disgusting when we had 7 plays from inside 2 yards and couldn't score :x

I've been hearing so much about how much Savage has been working hard to improve ever since he botched the Colts game, but surprisingly that's what I saw. Sure, it was against the 3s, but still.

Agree about Worthy, cause Bonner and Mumphery were doing NOTHING

Was really wanting to see Grimes do something cause I think he's most similar to Foster out of anybody, but was glad to see Blue's improvement, along with Polk, even though I felt Polk was doing too much gesturing for the tyoe of game it was

Labhart  :pimp: hope he makes the team in some fashion, maybe take Martin's spot, cause he's playing like Jacoby without the spectacular plays.
I am looking forward to how Hopkins, Shorts, and Washington all do together.

Minus some familiar lapses, the defense played well. Ankrah and Brown were definitely the highlights later on. There was one play I had to laugh at when (I think) Kaep should've been tackled, and clearly Kareem and one of our safeties that the same and were slowing down. Could've been a disaster had it not been a massive overthrow
