2015 NY Knicks offseason thread, Los Almighty appreciation thread

Sheed was huge, even if it was just 21 games.

Kidd, Sheed, Kurt Thomas, Earl, Felton (yes, Felton) all played really well. 

Those players that were here last year, from that season all took a step back. 
 
No, but Tyson was so significantly better than any front court option this year. It's also now a system that prefers to utilize size vs a system that played 4 out and 1 in.

Veteran leadership was a big part of the knicks that season


You can't just look at the minutes played and say that's all they contributed. There's alot more when it comes to team dynamics.

I understand, which is why I said on the court. If there is a lot more to team dynamics, you dont think this current coaching staff and new roster can bring a more serious/veteran approach as well?

No one gave a **** last year. There's now direction and accountability.

Trust me, I'm one of the more pessimistic fans out there especially in years past, but I just have a strange and very good feeling about this year.

Just to make it clear I never knocked what Tyson did prior to last season. I even don't blame him for a lot of last season, he got a random injury and it was a huge turning point for him and the rest of our season. My point is that his contributions at center, which was our weakest position last season and still is now, is a moot point because of the games he missed, playing hurt, and checking out.
 
the only thing that Phil/Fisher gives us right now (they havent proven anything yet) are stability and 'confidence'
just bc both are on the same page, and they have a clear indication of what needs to be done in order to be successful.

with Mike Sn, it was 'it might his last year' etc.

i have a feeling that the squad we have now are somewhat on the same page and most importantly they know their roles.

i mean even Shump said that he'll be looking to slash more and not handle the ball so much.

also, Shump and Amare will be playing for a contract next year, so they'll be motivated to perform good.

Kidd wasn't the reason why we won 10-15 games, but him along with all the other veterans made a HUGE difference. Those veterans created a culture within the locker room and once they all left, the poise, culture and hard-work left as well. It's a bigger factor than we'd all like to believe.

J.R. played at a level he never hit before, Melo had taken it up a notch and so on. It's no coincidence that we came back down to earth once Sheed got hurt. We had an almost perfect storm of things happen but two major flaws showed themselves and those were: 1) these boys couldn't play through adversity 2) they assumed they could just hit the on/off switch and dominate when needed. And that's a problem we STILL have just based off of last season.

C) We did so well because we took the small ball approach. Sn went away from that. Phil and by extension Derek, as far as i know, have never been pro-small ball. That's what our lineup is suited for still based on the majority of the roster. Are they going to adjust to that or go back to a more traditional styling?

That's the thing. The Knicks were always "good on paper", but they stank it up when they hit the floor. How is this any different?

I hope for Melo's sake, we don't go back to small ball.

Calderon is horrible. but its not like Larkin is any better. just quicker, good hands maybe



1st couple games is going to be interesting though.

im assuming Shump will start on the 'star' 1 guards, and Calderon take the 2.

i dont have much hope for our defense this year.
as long as our offense is much better than ISO Melo, and we have a consistent offensive production (Tim, Shump) ill be happy.

im looking to see who will consistently help Melo score. whos our 2nd option?
JR, Stat, even Bargs?




i can see us making a run for the division tho. Raps are pretty much the favorites to win our div.

Thats the thing. We don't have anyone else we can reliably lean on to score outside of Melo. I'm concerned for this very reason.

I'll say anywhere from 33-40 wins. I'll enjoy it more because Woodson's incompetent *** isn't around and there's a long term vision in place. But I don't expect an uptick in the win column this year.

Woodson not being here is a good thing and he was a major reason why we lost so many games, but the roster has a lot to do with it too.

JR is a major wild card for us and that drives me nuts. We're going to have to rely on a guy who is erratically inconsistent on every facet of the game :smh:

We'll get a better idea of whats REALLY going on once training camp starts. I'm interested to see who picks up on the triangle right away and who struggles to learn it.

I have a feeling JR is going to struggle in the Triangle.
 
Who is expecting anything from Dalembert? I need to know now :lol: Son aint even a factor imo. The center position aint never been THAT important in the east. If dudes want to waste time talking about him they gotta be crazy when we'd probably do just as good if we put STAT at the 5.

This is a reach, but I also think JR gets his act together this year. Plays team basketball.

Today is Knicks' Media Day. Training camp begins tomorrow at West Point.

He was but he helped spread the floor which is what we needed. Didn't kill against good teams but you couldn't double down on Melo at least.

During the reg season but either he folded in the playoffs or Miami figured out how to defend him and he became useless defensive liability.

Seeing how well the Kings refreshed jerseys look annoys me even more that we didn't go with a bigger and bolder New York font.

what people dont realize, is that its not just about leadership. its about confidence, direction, and discipline.

woodson did not promote confidence in his players (ie shump), he did not have any direction on how the game was going to be played in crunch time (ie horrible possessions), and he let jr do whatever the **** he wanted (ie the shoelace crap).

those 3 things alone can make or break a team.

try to apply that to your own lives. will you respect your boss and do what he asks of you if hes an idiot? to a certain extent, yes, because its your job. but are you going to put that much effort if you know youll never get a raise or a promotion? no.

thats what i think the team thought last season with woodson. that this guy sucks at his job, we're not going anywhere in the postseason, not even make the damn playoffs, so why bother?

the only one that really tried all season was melo and thats because hes exponentially better than anyone else on the team and has more to lose if he checks out during the season.

do i think well be a better team than last year, yes. thats solely because of the clear direction for the team, the confidence in the players by management, and the discipline that the new regime will enforce.

i mean its not like our team is horrible. we just had a bunch of underachievers last year. the east is weak, so sneaking into the playoffs shouldnt be too hard. there are much worse teams in the east. just because our team had a horrible season, doesnt mean everyone else is better.
