Did things actors and celebrities like Will Smith, Corey from Boy Meets World, and Jerry Seinfeld wear really influence your purchases?

Did seeing Jordans on tv make you want to go out and buy them more, were you even up on J's like that?

I'm in my late twenties but I recognize that I didn't pay for a pair of shoes by myself until the Jordan 12s or 13s dropped (I was on mom's money.)

What was the game like going into stores back then?

In.

I wasn't into shoes at all until the late 90s, but I'm interested in seeing what people have to say in here.

Went to hs in pdx aka nike land in The mid 90s. Shoe game was always real out there. The old nike factory on Fremont/mlk was the hot spot. Went to the ES back in 96 and walked out with a pair of am95, air max sensation, and zoom airs under 125. Good ol days :smokin

What's up with nt secret Santa this year??? :nerd:

But back to topic
Well for starters it wasn't called "sneaker game"

I'm actually moving up to the Bay in the next few weeks so things have been hectic. I'll make the thread in the next few weeks here.

It didn't seem like there was a game. My brother and I both had 2 paper routes to pay for our shoes. When we got paid we were able to get most of the shoes we wanted after the release date. Athletic Fitters ftw

I remember there wasn't buying shoes online. I remember walking in a footlocker or finishline in the middle of the week when a new Jordan released and picked it up during my lunch break. I bought shoes back then because I wanted to be like the player I was buying the shoes of...Jordan, Bo Jackson, Barkley, Penny, etc.

I remember the only people with AM95s in my school (in NY) when they first dropped were the kind of preppy white folk weirdly. This could have been due to socio-economic reasons in my neighborhood of course. (I had a pair of Air Max 93 my dad bought me and basically told me, you're good until you grow out of those.)

But it seemed by fifth grade it turned into an arms race with every kid in the school, who could afford it rocking the newest Barkley's or Agassi's or Jordan's, not even to talk about Larry Johnson Converse or Grant Hill's, or Penny's.

it was just a bonus
more so than now perhaps - less in the know so to speak

also - i got my white-cement 3's in my adult size months after they came out

i was influenced by seeing them in store, on peoples feet - you have to understand how many more bells & whistles nike air's had over competition, how new some models looked
nike air sneakers were the first ones i feel that completely broke away from everyone else with cutting edge midsole construction starting around 1987 - a big deal to my sensibilities

nike endorsers like jordan made em best on shelf & best in game - sold

guess i'm including the late '80's as well

honestly - timbos & boots were cutting into sneaker sales big time in the early 90s tho
some sneakers started resembling boot construction as a result

I'm here to take notes
Didn't get into shoes till 2010
Plus I was late 90s anyways, so idk.

The sneaker game is wack now, I feel lame wearing ****

I don't even remember how I got into sneakers in the 90's. But I do remember being able to walk into the store and trying on the shoes, weeks or months after a release. Back then there were no release dates or details like what you would find online instantly. When the shoes hit the stores, that's when I knew they were released. I even recall talking down the price also (this was a mom and pops shop so prices weren't set like it is in Foot Locker and such). Those were the days....

Martin wore some. Will Smith. Corey in bmw and others

Must have been dope. Im 23 btw

No way you copped a pair of 12's or 13's by yourself.

I'm 28 and they came out when we was in the 6th grade

Best part, these shoes people line up and literally kill each other for hit clearance racks all the time. Last years Jordan's? That was a crime. Funny now that retros are all the craze
