Arrives in the US in 2016 as a 2017 model.

Jaguar has only released the goods on one of the XE's engines which, by the sounds of it, will be its top-flight offering for the time being. We've tested Jaguar Land Rover's 3.0-liter, supercharged V6 in a number of offerings, driving it in both its 380-hp variant and its 340-pony setup. The XE S will get the latter, and it will be paired up with a new, lighter version of the eight-speed ZF automatic that's so popular in the rest of the JLR fleet. The 340-hp model will be the range-topping entry (at least until Jag decides to shoehorn its blown 5.0-liter V8 under the hood, for the inevitable R and RS variants), and can hit 60 miles per hour in 4.9 seconds before reaching a limited top speed of 155 miles per hour. That sprint to 60 is 0.2 seconds faster than a BMW 335i and it ties the Audi S4. The rest of the engines available on the XE will be part of a new "Ingenium" family, which will be built in the UK using a modular design. Power will be sent to the rear wheels, although Jaguar says the XE's modular architecture is "accepting" of all-wheel-drive systems.

Absolutely no way I'd buy this over a 3-series or C-class. Look at the Chrysler-esque exterior.

I wonder how many times this thing will break down over a 36 month lease.

Breaking down is just part of that UK charm.....

I like this, a lot. Any specs?

It's pretty pricey at the moment, I am curious if that "starting price" includes the yet to be revealed turbo 4 engine? If the $43,500 price is for the V6 then it's fine. Plus that price being converted from pounds isn't always accurate once the car reaches the US anyways so just got to wait for the actual USD price to be announced.

The range-topping XE S packs a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that sends 335 horsepower and 332 lb-ft. of torque to the rear wheels. Borrowed from the F-Type, the six-cylinder propels the XE S from zero to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and on to a top speed that is electronically limited to 155 mph.

Less expensive XEs will pack four-cylinders sourced from Jaguar Land Rover's new Ingenium engine family. Technical details are still being finalized but the company promises the lineup will include a direct-injected 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mill and at least one turbodiesel unit in Europe. Buyers will be asked to choose between a six-speed manual transmission and a ZF-designed eight-speed automatic unit, though whether or not the six-speed will be offered on these shores is up in the air.

Rear-wheel drive wheel comes standard and all-wheel drive is available on some models at an extra cost. Additionally, the XE inaugurates an advanced traction control system called All Surface Progress Control that works like a low-speed cruise control to get the car through rough weather conditions without requiring any pedal input from the driver.

The Jaguar XE is scheduled to go on sale across the United States in time for the 2016 model year. The XE will start at £27,000 (about $43,500) in England.

For comparison in Euro pricing so that no one dumps on that pricing right off the bat, it still undercuts the 328i by a few thousands and will sell well if it stays true when it comes to the US:

C200 - From 26,185 GBP
BMW 320i - From 26,565 GBP (From $32,950 USD)
Jag XE 2.0T - From 27,000 GBP
BMW 328i - From 29,765 GBP (From $37,500 USD)
Audi A4 2.0T Quattro - From 31,120 GBP (From $37,600 USD)
