Are bank/credit scams the new CRACK game?

So one of my mans checked his bank account today and noticed that there is a wild $500 withdrawal on there. Which leads me to my topic

It seems as if bank scams is the new crack, fam. Back in the 80s cats were actually on the street, pushing the rock, getting crazy loot. Now, it seems as if fraud and all this financial scamming is the new trend for the cats in the hood trying to make a quick buck.

**** is disgusting, B. And it's rampant in every major city.

I don't know how it's done or what cats do, but its ridiculous, B. Am I the only one that thinks that this is the new epidemic plaguing the streets?

Not just cats in the hood. Card skimming and scams are huge. I was a victim of it a few years back. The person had spent about $200 from my checking account on groceries at a store in Australia. I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't check my statements.

Yeah this has been going on for a while. My card got skimmed too at a gas station. Somebody in Texas was using it, this is going back to '06-07 I believe

Best thing to do is use cash or a credit card, that way they don't mess with your 'liquid' cash

Is that how all these cats on IG end up flossing with all this cash and rental cars? Card skimming? :smh:

I got skimmed for 500 for women's shoes in Georgia. I'm in baltimore. This was like 07. I know friends who do this and seems to be a very profitable business even tho very immoral

Could be wrong but I don't think they can get cash, just make purchases, but I'm not 100%

You don't mess with big money like that. The risk-reward to scam a bank is atrocious. Banks run the country b.

I was in Queens this past summer with my boy while we visited some of his fam from Haiti. We saw a new aston martin, and S550, and a Lambo zoom down the street in the hood of Queens . . .Me and my dude's faces lit up and we were in pure shock, and then his boy simply said, "Bank Scams, bruh . . .boys out here living a movie."

This happens in the suburbs as well. Not just some impoverished area. We're all possible victims

Yea man, ***** crazy in NYC

I wanna know how these cats do what they do though :smh: just so I can be aware and know what to look out for. I'm not trynna be a victim.

All I know is not to use an ATM in the hood. Those can't be trusted cus you don't know who's paying papi off to rig their machine

My cousin used to cop macbooks from a cat buyin em with stolen idenity. Shoulda bought one of em for 500 but my morals wouldnt let me

Still dont have a MBP... :smh

Someone in TAN recently got scammed also. Couple months back my mom had some fraudulent activity going on too, but it was very small amounts of money, I'm assuming they just were trying to see if it would work.

I've been hit by random charges of 49.95 on all of my credit cards and debit cards. The charge will appear as a 800 number dot com and when I call the number it is always for vitamins or weight loss supplements. I live alone and the cards never leave my possession. Really frustrating because I don't know how to stop this from happening.

I work in the retail field as LP and the amount of people I see trying to pull this off on the daily basis is insane. The same people come 3-4 times per week trying to get away with it and they just too dumb to realize that the way you behave is what raises a red flag on what you are trying to do.

Can somebody explain HOW this is done? Not trying to be a victim. I don't believe in fraud, automatic blackball in my field. My boy was on that fake check cashing wave, but his boy got bagged for 40K. He luckily didn't get bagged and only has a -2K balance, but cant open a bank account now.

There are so many points of entry its ridiculous.

The most popular way are card skimmers. They're essentially just a device that skims the magnetic data from your card and saves it so that a scammer can load the same information on a blank card and make a copy of yours. I've seen skimmers that are small enough to fit inside of an ATM card slot. Very difficult to spot and almost impossible to stop.

The second way is stealing card info after its been used for a transaction, likely from the inside of an organization. This is what happened to Target.

Third way is the old fashion way, copying the info down. This can be done with cameras and specially trained birds, like crows (no lie).

They make devices that exploit those "tap to pay" cards as well...someone bumps into you and next thing you know you're buying bottles at Mansion

Its real out here. Tips to avoid becoming a victim:

1. Never use outdoor ATMs. Yes, this defeats the purpose of the convenience factor, but it beats that call to the Fraud Department.

2. Pry and try to shift the card reader and pinpad when you absolutely have to use an outdoor ATM. I've found a rogue pin pad this way.

3. Only use your card on private internet connections. Never on public WiFi. Starbucks, libraries, work, etc are all public.

4. Keep your card in a specialized case that prevents tap to pay theft. Not the best solution, but better than nothing.

5. Make smart choices and never let your card out of your sight. Even at restaurants, which is where a lot of card skimming happens by employees.

Should go without saying but also:

USE SECURE PASSWORDS FOR EVERYTHING. ESPECIALLY YOUR BANK IF YOU USE ONLINE BANKING.

Never save your card or payment info for auto fill on website forms.

If you are a repeat victim, look into getting a new SSN.

Hope this helps.

Most i know got connections in the bank,

Move money to your account from some randoms & they go withdraw from the atm asap

That's pure BS. You'll get caught and fired the first time you ever try something foolishness like that. ALL transactions are monitored and have paper trails. You can't hide anything. An mI st ATMs have withdrawal limits, usually like $800. Definitely not worth your job to try something like that.

I worked in banking for 3 years.

First thing I thought about was that you got zoed song , but those scammers don't even hide it on IG, lol selfies, pics with cash and all that. There's no fear in that community of scammers.

Had it happen to me several times in a couple years. The worst part is the process of getting a new card and having to input my billing info all over again.

Pretty sure one of the incidents was from a dude working the concessions at SAP Center. It was one of the only transactions I did for a week and noticed a transaction for blizzard the next day. This dude pretty much fit the stereotypical description of what a pc gamer looks like coupled with the fact that dude was pretty much begging people to buy food.
