Any personal bankers?

Just landed an interview with a branch manager at Wells Fargo for a personal banker position. Anybody have any advice or any insight on the job in general, not just Wells Fargo. I know it's primarily sales based and I'm used to that type of job but I just wanna hear what my NT brethren have to say haha

I was a banker with Capital One for about 2 years. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sales goals were an annoyance but if you know what you're doing, and know your bank's products you can excel. However, I did hear from many Wells Fargo bankers that Wells is ridiculous with their goals. To the point that the need to make a "sale" may be detrimental to the company which is why many of them left for Capital One,which was less sakes intensive. All in all you can make great money with bonuses and the benefits are top notch, granted they have the same kind of incentives and benefits as Capital One. Also be prepared to have difficult conversations with customers about not being able to refund overdraft fees, or the bank declining them for a mortgage or credit card. Be cool calm and empathetic. Refer the crazies to your manager. An avoid starting sentences with "Well it'd the bank policy to..." because people don't care what the bank can do for them, they want to know what you can do. Once you get on the job for a while you'll find out you have a lot of options and room to bend the rules slightly. Good luck bro.

So much to learn. Essientially you hafta be a mortgage specialist. Lending specialist. Know all the dda accounts your bank offers and pretty much all the basic services your bank offers.

You have to know everything and get paid junk. Lots of places/room to move up though and thats obv the point.
 
I did about 10 years in the banking industry before I got out... I started off as a teller, moved onto operations, and ended up in personal banking... It's basically all sales, sales, sales... Knowing your products/services and being an expert in the field will take you far, but your colleagues are by far your biggest competition (not the other banks)... You basically hustle for the bank and it can pay off if you're good at it... The pay usually sucks, but the compensation is usually pretty good.
 
Been doing it for 3 years now...know your products and be engaging. It can be fun once u start to get to know people.
