Because this isn't the type of song that he should've delivered after people have been waiting for so long for some new music. I can't see how this hypes anyone up for his next album. I'm not losing faith in the album or anything, but he has to have a better single than that on there.

After hearing this I'm left feeling very "meh". I mean I don't hate the song, I can see the appeal, I can see the reasoning behind doing a song like this and I always appreciate an artist trying to do something new/different but I'm still left wanting more. Idk, maybe it'll grow on me but I'm feeling very underwhelmed atm.

What type of song should that be exactly?You don't need a pumped up track to excite fans about an upcoming album. Good music should excite you whether is mellow or pumped up. This is a good song, with good production and good content and I am still excited for the album.
Your statement is exactly the problem with so called hip-hop fans on here. You keep the genre in the box because you believe everything in hip-hop has to be formulaic and executed an exact way. Sadly y'all don't allow artists to step out of the box and the genre to grow because you refuse to think outside of the box.

imo it's not a type of song that you'd expect kendrick to drop as a single, but look at the times we are currently in (syria, ferguson, etc), it'll sell and attract new fans.

So I got a chance to listen to it without any interruptions or distractions and I can say that while it's not my favorite track he's ever done; I do like it.

I like all of those tracks, P&P 1.5 might be my favorite Kendrick track depending on when you ask me
Couldn't get jiggy with this one though. That said I'm not mad at him trying diff things, still expecting greatness as usual from the upcoming project.

Since when has the first single been certified the deciding factor for hype of an upcoming album? Yall acting like it's now or never for dude, like there won't be any other singles for the album. Hell, his first album didn't have a big single prior to the release (swimming pools didn't really shoot off till after the release). You don't like the song? Cool but don't act like that is going to decide how great or not so great the album will be. Someone already mentioned that this song may not even be on the album (or might be a bonus track) and we've all seen that before.

Like I can't have an opinion lol he haven't dropped **** in 2 yrs and the 2 newest pieces of music I've heard has been disappointing..He's looking shaky, I said in the beginning of the thread he couldn't outdo GKMC and so far with what he's put out lately is proving me right.
