**Official Kendrick Lamar Thread 4th Studio Album ''DAMN.''Out Now**

Do you think he will

I think Kendrick is a great artist and will put out good music as he always has. The album doesn't HAVE to surpass GKMC. I just want quality music which I believe he has shown me he is more than capable of delivering.

No expectations just going to enjoy the music and the chance to hear a new project from my favorite rapper right now.

nice political answer

No matter what he drops fans are gonna say its not better than his first one since it was a "classic" thats just how hip hop fans are , even if it is a better album

I personally don't think he'll ever surpass GKMC but as long as the follow ups are good then I'm fine.

Not trying to hate, but this line of thinking is exactly why people are so harshly critiqued these days.

The preconceived notion that something new wont be as good as the first, continuously hinders us from being able to enjoy new things.

Im not just getting on you, that sort of prejudgment happens with everyone. Its why sophomore albums are NEVER seen as good as rookie albums, even if by some chance theyre better.

First one of everything is classic to people, and it can never get better... when in truth, it can...and sometimes it does.

I wish we would just wait to judge everything one by one instead of already thinking it wont be as good.
If expectations changed, and things were seen more glass half-full instead of half-empty, we would be more appreciative of the music these artists give us.

Majority of people are already saying it wont be as good as GKMC... without even hearing a single second of the new music hes about to release.
Its crazy... to me at least. *kanye shrug*

I actually agree with you for the most part. There are exceptions to the rule even with me saying he won't surpass his first effort but first albums are usually the perfect storm of events. Hunger, attention to detail, etc. and for the fan its the first time getting a complete body of work from an artist so it creates an experience that often can't be match. Unfair at times but its the nature of the beast. At the same time there are plenty of artists who have released albums who I feel surpassed their firsts so I'm not that close-minded to the possibility of a follow up being better but I just honestly feel this album won't be one of those that does it.

I think the last rapper to have a sophomore album that was better than his debut is....

Drake.

I was never a Drake fan. I will never understand people's love affair with him. He's so damn mediocre.

But yes NT is very fickle. They are quick to turn on an artist. But then there are rappers that consistently get love Cam'ron, Max B., hmm I think that's about it

I don't know why people have the mindset that every album has to surpass the last one. It just isn't possible. You're going to end up disappointed going in with that kind of thinking eventually.

Because people expect progression. In any career field you're supposed to get better as you go. Being stagnant or plateauing is never good thing. You either improve or you innovate.

That's not really the case in music. Just because your last album ain't better than your first doesn't mean you didn't progress or you was stagnant. Most people think Reasonable Doubt and Illmatic are Jay and Nas's best albums. Did they lack progression or stay stagnant after those albums? Hell no. It's hard to top a album that's close to perfect.

Section 80 was better than Overly Dedicated...

GKMC was better than Section 80...

Y'all really think he not going to do it again? Have y'all seen the production lineup for this album? Have y'all seen what people who's heard stuff from the album been saying?

I have no doubt in my mind that Kendrick surpassed GKMC on this album, not even concerned about that honestly. I just want this damn release date.

That last sentence, word bruh. Taking expectations away freed up my mind a lot tbh cause I don't want my fav artists to keep making the same stuff.

^Man I agree! Once you free your mind from expectations you enjoy things in life a lot more and also are able to judge more clearly in my opinion.

Just curious to all the K.Dot fans in here do you prefer the more aggressive/emotional Kendrick that we will supposedly get on this album or him rapping more laid back?

As long as the subject matter is on point, it probably won't matter to me

Some days I think OD is his best work, next day it might be GKMC. Point is everything he has put out has been great so I doubt he'll start slacking now.
