**Official Kendrick Lamar Thread 4th Studio Album ''DAMN.''Out Now**

Na, man, we'll be jamming just like everybody else.

Just because someone isn't the same color as you doesn't mean that they're unable to sympathize w/ you or your situation.

Are you aware of how many white people listen to Dead Prez?

Yes i'm aware that white people listen to Dead Prez i'm also very aware that the crowd that is attending Kendrick shows isnt exactly the same as dead prez fans and two it was never questioned that people of all colors will still like the song...

The question remains is anyone who isn't black listening to Blacker The Berry and saying yea this material was made with me in mind..

And too your point of "Sympathizing" that alone shows a portion of the attitude that upsets people when discussing race with other races. Especially on NT.

One who the hell said that kendrick or black people in general are looking for sympathy, we are demanding to be treated fairly i don't give a **** about anyone's sympathy if it comes with no action.

Two STOP THINKING THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU KNOW ABOUT A SITUATION AND HAVE "SYMPATHY" :rolleyes THAT SOMEHOW EVERYTHING HE'S TALKING ABOUT IS RELATABLE.

I know what happened in Katrina, I know that it was ****** up but i never experienced first hand how thoese people felt during that period, i could do as much studying, as many interviews possible.... I Will NEVER be able to fully relate to those people.

When he says "You hate my people, your plan is to terminate my culture" i dont want to sit here and say a person of another race telling me how relatable it is to them because you being a non black man in America never truly felt the feeling of corporations completely trying to destro your character and any of your culture.

Not that they are in anyway alike, but I can't exactly relate to a majority of Jay-Z records when he's talking about how much money he has, yet I can still appreciate the music and still turn up at a Jay-Z show. Hell, Murder To Excellence is a song all about black on black murder and blacks making something of themselves when it gets to excellence. That song is fantastic. Do I have to be black to enjoy it?

Obviously I can't relate to Blacker the Berry, but that song GOES, I may not rap along with it at a show, but id still definitely get into it. And again, the whole concept of that song is about an entire race of people being hypocritical, not just Kendrick himself.

Nimley or whatever dudes name was , was up in here earlier talking about "come at me with a chopper"

No dude, part of the album is preaching anti violence and no more killings of each other. So get out of here with the tough act and try to say who is allowed to like the album, when again you obviously missed half the messages of it.

I don't think NTers can relate to running through the 6 with their woes, but a lot of them were still turning up to it.

As soon as race is involved in music, the ability to relate completely changes who should listen though?

Lastly, how the hell you gonna bring up ICP? Like any self respecting / non trailer trash white person likes them? If you are gonna bring up white rappers, please bring up ones who actually make hip hop and not garbage.

Action Bronson, Mac Miller, Logic, Asher Roth, etc. are they destroying the culture as well? Are they culture vultures?

Nay clearly stated in his other post that it would be stupid to say white people can't enjoy the music. NOBODY is claiming such a dumb and dated idea, what we are saying is that Kendrick made this music specifically with the intent of relating to black people and the struggles that we have to overcome. Can white people enjoy it Yes, Can they understand the music yes..... was this made with the intentions of relating with white people absolutely not.

That's not ostracizing whites from rap music it Stating a simple fact that black/latinos in America have a story nobody else is dealing with and this album speaks volumes and focuses primarily on establishing a connection with those people. What is difficult about this concept.

Theirs plenty of rap that i listened too that doesn't directly speak to me that i like, however when a artist paints a portrait of something that you really see everyday, about specific situations that you have actually been through it resonates much better.

Drake running around with his woes is something that can be experienced by anyone... who doesnt have friends that they hang with, people from all walks of life can experience that feeling. A cop or Judge looking at you in disgust because your Black or media constantly portraying you as something your not because of the color of your skin just isn't something thats relatable to anyone who isnt black.

You're all flustered over nothing.

There's a difference between empathy and sympathy, bruh.

I never said that I can relate to everything he talks about on this album.

W/ that being said I just realized its 7 AM, time for a nap.

PS: TPAB now has a 97 on metacritic, :pimp:

I was warned specifically for a comment said to Nay. Now maybe he didn't ask for the order of protection, but something seems fishy

Ah, I see.

Idk, man, doesn't really make sense for him of all people to be reporting dudes in here,

It was probably one of his cheerleaders.

At this point I think we ALL are beating a dead horse. Let's all move on from the topic of who this album is for and just enjoy it for what it is.

And for the record, I don't have friends, I don't like sh*t, and I don't go outside, so I cannot relate to running through the 6 with my woes. Still love that song though.

I'm not flustered i'm simply stating that you as a white man will never be able to simulate the experience of a black man in America. Dont come in here talking about we have your sympathy and how you understand because you don't.

Again, there is a difference between sympathy and empathy.

You're obviously unaware of this, so I'll present you w/ a picture explaining the differences and then I'm going to take a nap.

You couldn't emphasize w/ the victims of Katrina, but I'm sure you felt sympathy for them.

There, I even used it in a sentence.

So what you guys are saying is that I should tell the black kid at work that since he's a not a female that he should stop bumping Taylor Swift all the damn time?

Music has no racial boundaries, or boundaries in general, let it go everyone!

They need better reading programs in the burbs. Dudes read my post and wanted to play victim instead of provoking the type of thoughts and conversation that birthed this album and can possibly eliminate some of those situations.

The notion of me telling on some internet character.

But on a deeper note, you either with US or against US at this point and this album is aN hour of that. "Mortal Man" is him proposing the question as CLEAR as day. The days of simply Listenin to rap and turning it off when your tired are over. The same way there's lifestyle music that caters to the Trap or club life, this is lifestyle music for the modern day Pan-African. And not everybody that enjoys the beats and rhymes is gonna be willing to challenge these institutions

This is Physical and mental

Are y'all REALLY that out of touch tho? This is crazy cause these are hip hop fans we're talkin to, and it's like their way of thinkinin like Hannity or O'Reilly.

Y'all honestly believe Taylor Swift is marketing music to the same crowd as Lauryn Hill? Have y'all ever heard of a target audience?

Y'all soooo quick to think someone's exhibiting racism towards you. And that's something FOX News does very well, they play the victim and make it seem as if blacks are the ones that want the separation within society.

If we can't even have a provocative racial convo with white hip hop fans who the hell do we build a lasting rapport with to make some progress? It's obvious the very same sentiments that exist among generations before still exist. Being a hip hop fan doesn't free you of that.

I've had great racial debates with whites that cared nothing for hip hop culture. But they had general concern with the betterment of humanity.

what are the sales numbers looking like?
is son still in the 300k range or have those projections been exceeded?
sonically this is light years ahead of Cole & Drakes latest works.
that song that was posted by Cole a day or two ago was virtually unlistenable after all the instrumentation on TPAB lol

I agree with what youre essentially stating...empathy is also being able to "place yourself in their shoes" so you can have empathy with the Katriana victims.

Hiphop and music like this, has an will continue to do a lot for racial relations in America. So why be so devicisive tiny?

Chinese and whites, and i imagine many races marched with the Panthers and others during the civil rights era....

These walls can talk

opening verse = woman inticed by kendrick the rapper

1st & 2nd rapping verse = kendrick as the cattapillar consuming everything around him still...this time the woman...

sex..

caccoon starts forming (during the break down)

3nd verse (with the echo)

a verse full of resentment ...the echo (thoughts inside of head?)

leads to him alone in the hotel room trapped in his thoughts, leading to "u" :smokin

These Walls isn't about sex or a woman AT ALL.

First verse is certainly about sex.

He even tells dude in the third verse he was smashing his BM's in the first verse

If you're not from Compton this album is not for you.

If you're not from Los Angeles this album is not for you.

This album was made by Kendrick specifically for Angelinos.

You outsiders can't understand the struggle we face out here so don't even try.

not srs

"You outsiders can't understand the struggle we face out here so don't even try."

That really helps the situation...

Isn't the whole debate ABOUT understanding. How can anything change if everyone doesnt understand.

Can I relate? No. Im just a white kid that grew up in BK way before hipsters placed foot there. Different world than yours obviously.

Still doesnt take away from the fact that I want to understand.

Probably the reason why I love this album so much.

the woman mutters the word "sex" before the song even starts right?
and the Jazz inspired moans are sexual as well.
it's not solely about sex but the theme is certainly there.

Yea, there is definitely a metaphor of sex present. But I think it's way deeper than that. It's right before U also. Right before the breakdown.
