**Official Kendrick Lamar Thread 4th Studio Album ''DAMN.''Out Now**

I dont understand this.

You only excluded NaS but every other era has more than one rapper.
I think you just don't like NaS.
Those were the top rappers from those eras, rap never had just one guy running the game, but nas was never up there

Not to mention NaS is younger than.
2Pac. BIG. Jay. X. Em. Snoop. Busta.

Just to put things in perspective. NaS is a year older than Nelly. And 2 years older than 50. He came out 5 years before Nelly, 9 years before 50 and has remained culturally relevant about 8-10 years longer thanks than both. They ran the rap game, then tore BOTH ACLs. Neither has had a #1 album in 10 years. In that time AWFUL career NaS has had 3, how's that possible?

But I'm done entertaining you.

Hopefully you learned somethin.

Back to the topic at hand.
that "King Kunta" video bout to be epic. Hopefully there's mad cameos, I wanna see the ENTIRE west come thru and show King Kendrick love.

When did i say his career was awful, i said average since he dropped illmatic

& what does age have to do with anything, & you're delusional if you think nas is relevant because life is good went #1, that nostalgia boy i tell ya

eek.gif
@ Nas slander. New lows.
It's just a troll under a new sn my dude.

Nas stans cant handle the truth

This is probably the height of his career after illmatic, diddy had to make someone hot after mase retired

Album went platinum. How is that a flop?

50 was Penny and NaS was Grant Hill? My goodness, one of the worst things I've ever read on here.
It went platinum because of the hype, album was trash

Vol 1 went platinum, does that mean the album was good?

Saying a album went platinum in the 90s holds no weight

You called it a flop. I said it went platinum. It wasn't a flop.

I liked a few songs but I don't even consider it a NaS album. Think he was on like 3-4 songs. The label threw that **** together and made it happen just for a quick buck.

Vol 1 had some of Jay's best work but then it had some of his worst work.

So we're attempting to tarnish the legacy of one of/the greatest emcee of all time in here? Yall wildin.

Just block Migos, the posts will be a lot more substantive if you do so.

Did you know that if it wasn't for ILLMATIC, tons of artist wouldn't be who they are today? Lots of hip hop artist would've never put out what they put out? Jay even said, "Nas came out with Illmatic, had that **** on bootleg, thought we was all dead." JCole favorite artist is NaS. 2Pac saw NaS as a threat one time when they "beefed". If you believed that Nas didn't run ish, at least know that NaS birthed a lot of creativity into hip hop projects.

Just heard "King Kunta" on the radio home from work, got me geeked. I hope these kids listening to the radio get the education they need from KDot

Ok nas was influential, but he was never considered a upper echelon artist, they respected him as a mc, but he wasnt putting out hits like that

& lets not forget that simp track he made with ginuwine as an attempt to gain female followers

Go read Miss Info's OG review from 1994, she called it one of the best albums she's ever heard a few sentences into it if I remember correctly.

I don't really understand why dudes get so offended when someone says X > Y when it comes to albums.

I love NaS, Illmatic is a classic.

Are my jimmies gonna be rustled if someone thinks Aquemini or Supreme Clientele, etc... is "better"?

No not really, they're all pretty damn good at the end of the day.

Dudes in here acting like someone said Nastradamus is greater than Its Dark & Hell Is Hot or something.

Calm down, bros.

Yes I've read the review and while she did say it was one of the best albums she ever heard, she didn't say it was the greatest immediately and she didn't downplay other albums or say it was better then this or that album. Nas is my favorite mc and Illmatic is my favorite album and I'm well aware of all the acclaim it received when it released but it took a lil time for people to declare it as arguably as the great hip hop album of all time. I just think calling an album not even 2 weeks old yet arguably the greatest album ever is a lil too soon to me but hey, to each their own. I just think To Pimp a Butterfly is it's own thing and should be listened as so, just let it really soak in and see how you feel about it years later before making such bold statements. I know you didn't make any of these bold statements but I'm just addressing the thread in general at this point.

It has nothing to do with going against the grain. There's just nothing about it that sticks with me. The lyricism is pretty standard to me. Production is borderline leaking trash juice / boring. Only thing I really enjoy is his flow.

Don't like the album? Cool, I can understand that but standard lyricism? Come on man, you can't really believe that?

Where do I start? This is the generation that feels they need to compare everything to the past for some sort of validation. When illmatic dropped it literally changed everything. It resurrected the east coast, which at the time had taken a back seat to the West Coast. More importantly the album redefined the emcee and raised the bar to a whole new level. The album was deemed a classic from everyone who had a worthy opinion. It was respected globally and has stood the test of time. Many people in the Hip Hop community consider it the greatest rap record ever made and deservingly so.

TPAB has received the same sort of praise and it's not reaching to think that it might surpass illmatic as the greatest rap record ever made, that is something time will tell.

I agree with all of this completely.

Dude is obviously trolling with the Nas had an average career thing but lets get this thread back to what it should be about, Kendrick and TPAB.

I heard King Kunta on the radio like 3 times last night too and everybody in the whip was vibing :smokin I'm in LA though so I don't know if its getting burn like that elsewhere but hopefully it is

So were judging mcs by hits now? Smh

I finally gave the album a full spin, no interruptions.

I realized that the album was center around the quote "I remember you was conflicted, misusing your influence...". As the tracks progressed he continued to add to the statement.

I need another spin to bring everything home.

When did i say his career was awful, i said average since he dropped illmatic

And Jay-Z is only relevant because of Beyonce and being attached to Kanye via umbilical cord

Distant Relatives > Watch the Throne
