**Official Kendrick Lamar Thread 4th Studio Album ''DAMN.''Out Now**

But did it transition into hits

Pac, snoop, busta, big, jay etc made more hits than nas

I don't know how old you are, but Pac wasnt as renowned as he is now when he was alive. His albums were flops aside from one. Yes, he made socially conscious music but it wasnt anything "trailblazing". Hip-Hop has always been socially conscious, this isnt new.

Snoop, Busta, Big, and Jay benefited from commercial success to fantastic marketing. Nas didnt make that kind of music, neither did anyone from Wu-Tang, are they less "artistic" than the latter?

Y'all actually like King Kunte? I deleted that song. That and for free had me feeling like the album was about to be trash. Based off of King Kunte alone I almost gave this album the frisbee treatment. If I was listening to it on cd I would have thrown it out of the window like I did with God's Son CD.

Comparing this to God's Son is a capital offense homie

King Kunte is that bad though. After that I was all good. Love every song after that, but that song is garbo. Legitimately one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

Me against the world, all eyez on me, the don killuminati werent flops

Thats 3 albums right there & you said only one wasnt a flop, stop it

Musically he wasnt upper echelon

As a mc hes top 10 all time, no doubt about it

You do know artist & mc are two different things
So u belittle one of the best poets of our time and simply call him an emcee? Lol. Nas has made countless artist go back and redo their album based off of his non hits... lol. u must be under 25 talking about "you know there's a difference between artist and mc right?"...

King Kunta is one of the best songs on the album. That **** comes on and every time I start dancing. The funk on that beat is :x

I'm amazed at the Generational split in this thread.

It's expected. You see people online saying Drake >>> 2Pac and J. Cole >>> Nas, Kanye >>> all. **** is so common now, kids have no idea what hip hop is.

When your biggest hit came off gods son i cant take you srs musically

Tupac had better sales after he was dead when he was when he was alive. So what does that say about Pac musically? The fact that people didnt even acknowledge you when you were alive? He dropped 3 album within just about a year and people bought them because he died. Facts.

Pac sold 5 mill & debuted as #1 while in prison with no real music video with him in it

Yall nas stans caping to the extreme

I'm not jumping into the Nas debate. But chill out with the Pac slander. Pac was the biggest hip hop artist out when he was alive. No one had or will have his influence. He just happened to become bigger (like most legends who die) once he died. Hell, even Michael Jackson became "bigger" once he died. Which is wild.

Why does no one mention 2pacalypse Now and Stictly for my N-I-G-**** albums? Both came out before MATW, in the early 90s. Also, Pacs acting career played a big part into his success. I'm a major 2pac and Nas fan, by the way. Name an artist other than Nas whose conscious subject matter is his calling card, with commercial success. Chuck D, Rakim-types obviously but today, maybe Common. "I Can" is Nas' biggest hit? LOL. "If I ruled the World" is on par with "Juicy" and, both songs sampled hits that first came out in the 1980s. But, can we keep this thread about Kendrick? I was gone relax on the Nas subject but, some people like speaking on things they don't know about.

I can is his highest charting single, doesnt that make it his biggest hit

Lauryn hill was the most successful conscious rapper

Nas is a legend and one of the GOATs

Hov is a legend and one of the GOATs

Pac is a legend and one of the GOATs

But this is the Kendrick thread. Kendrick is the new legend. :pimp:

Ummm. Didn't I say "which is wild?" Michael Jackson's estate is now worth over 1 billion. Yes, he became "bigger." Always been huge, but when he died, people ran to his music again to re-buy.

exactly, "re-bought" the same people who purchased more Michael memorabilia and albums already had stuff of his, and were familiar with him. Of course distributors are going to recycle the same stuff, for consumers to re-buy, to capitalize off his death...

Its still a hit, what is your point

I can was nas biggest hit & it came out 9 yrs after nas released his "classic"

Okay. I'll say it like this then, what's wrong with "I Can" being a hit? The song had a great message and touched on topics that needed to be heard? If it were a grittier beat and had a darker vibe, would it have been on the radio? His song "poison" off Stillmatic has a similar vibe. But, of course it would not have been on radio, or had a video.

So you think that the only people who bought his stuff were previous fans of his already? I guess my little cousins lied to me. (All 15 and under) Because all of them said they didn't know who he was during the time he died. But they became fans due to all of his music and videos being played all day. But anyway.... this is Kendrick's thread.

Yeah mj fell off musically after bad until he dropped you rock my world plus the media scrutiny didnt help
