the blacker the berry is mandatory when driving downtown around older white people. "Wish I could preach with panthers or tell Georgia State Marcus Garvey got all the answers, celebrate the month of February like its my B day or eat fried chicken, watermelon, and drink kool aid on weekdays. Jump high enough to get Michae Jordan endorsements or support BET cause urban support is important. So why did I weep when trayvon Martin was in the street when gangbanging made kill a nigg@ blacker than me? Hypocrite

YES!

I wonder if the guys saying they weren'feeling the blacker the berry because of that last line feel differently hearing it in context of the entire album

I mean it's a pretty true statement since he is speaking about himself. Nothing to feel uncomfortable about...the line makes sense and is a valuable question.

Nah it really isn't a valuable question and has some pretty awful implications behind it. Considering we heard his opinions on the matter, the context makes it even worse. The song is really good but I can't rock with it. It's not like this is Gucci's music where you can just jgnore the lyrics and message.

is it hypocritical to mourn a wrongfully taken life when you are willing to take one for petty reasons? I think so but i would also say it doesnt mean you shouldnt be mournful or angry about it. But i think your right mgrand15 mgrand15 , when you think about the entire album it does seem more out of place

It is hypocritical. Also it kinda goes along with his Tupac interview on Mortal Man when he says "If I respect you as a black man we unify and stop the enemy from killing us."

I wouldn't say its out of place at all.

Did yall see his hot 97 interview? Dude is speaking from his personal perspective as someone being from an environment that has a poisonous cycle that he's questioning.

How does him speaking from personal experience make the statement better? What has kendrick seen in his neighborhood that's different than anybody else from that same neighborhood? I know kendricks isn't the most articulate person in the world but his response is kind of lazy. Gang violence is a function of poverty , mass incarceration and police brutality is a function of corruption and white supremacy. Theres no correlation at all.

Murder is still murder. Taking a life is still taking a life. Whether it be from racism or a different form of hate, hate is hate , murder is murder. How can you judge anyone if you are a murderer yourself?

It's kind of like the auto shop owner in Grandville, Michigan who made a huge claim he will not serve gays, then last night someone spray painted "I

This is what always irked me about his stance too, and the way he responded to the criticism on said stance when brought up on Hot 97 only irked me more.

Are these two problems? Yes. Is it hypocritical to feel one way about one and a different way about the other? Only if you strip down the issues to their barest level of both involving the loss of a life. But doing that ignores a large portion of what the problems are, and overlooks why someone may feel more strongly about one than the other.

At the end of the day though, I respect his willingness to speak up in a meaningful way through his art in general and accept that we'll probably just never see eye to eye on that one.

Wonder what video he'll be making next; I don't see him stopping with King Kunte.

Exactly. Its deeper then just murder. Violence against blacks predates, supposed "black on black violence". If Chicago had a murder rate of zero prisons would still be filled with people of color. To somehow draw a connection between the two is nothing more than a deflection.

You're straight up ignoring context as if it's completely irrevelant

I knew this dude was going to be back on top of charts! The hard copy is release in stores. Yet, the mixtape is available everywhere for free download and he's still selling like crazy! Feel as if he took all the thunder from Cole, Kendrick, Big Sean etc....... :smh:
