Depends on the state/county you work for. But yeah, and that was a few years ago. My pay grade is higher now... I can top that easily.

The job can be fun, scary, and flat out unpredictable. Lke someone else said, you will see things you can't see anywhere else.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to leave you work, at work.

Being mandated and having to work 16 hours shifts can suck.

The key to the job is having good interpersonal skills. If you treat people like they are human while maintaining control and the inmates respect, the job isn't half bad.

same thing my sister told me

Not thrown at me. But in the Psych unit, we would do cell extractions and force shower the inmates.

Also in booking or detox cage. They're would be inmates straight crazy and would call out Officers and pour piss and **** all over themselves before we came in. :x

I know Police gets **** on this forum a lot. But I recommend anyone up for a challenge to apply and join the force.

Here was one of our Academy recruits.

My cousin just got a job as a CO at San Quentin. And my homie is one at salinas valley prison. He works in the psych ward and the stories he tells me are wild. People biting off their fingers, guys chopping of their meat and trying to hang themselves with it. Salinas valley prison is the livest one in my area.

I got an email today for RN positions at correctional facilities. This was for San Quentin, Nor cal seems to be the highest paying some reason:

"Salary Range
$8,030.00 - $9,575.00/month

For employees new to state service:

• Receive a $1,500 bonus upon successful completion of one qualifying pay period (see Pay Letter for details)
• Receive a $1,500 bonus upon successful completion of six qualifying pay periods (see Pay Letter for details)
• Receive a $1,000 bonus upon successful completion of 18 qualifying pay periods (see Pay Letter for details)"

My cousin is a co in rikers the stories he tells me is wild but all in all a great job if you can hack it, I find it wild that people will go through the whole academy process and then after a year not like it, yea the job can suck but all the benefits is what makes it worth while . I guess some people aren't built for that type of life

It's long, but I guarantee it's worth the read.

The story about the shanking was horrible, pulling out fist fulls of meat :x

Is that so you wouldn't touch? Like what would be the point?

Forcing showers reminds me of OITNB, with the asian girl that refused to shower. For the OZ fans didn't Miguel eat and drink his own **** or something. Don't remember why he did it.

Most of those guys aren't ususally comprehensive. Therefore, they think just because they rub themselves in feces, we won't touch them.

I would never be a co for many reasons. One being spending most my waking hours in a jail or prison. **** that.
