Listen to the news, and it would seem black people are screwing up.

I'm not stupid enough to see it like that, and if I didn't live in the Midwest, in the Bible belt, I wouldn't even bring it up.

But I guarantee there are people out here paying attention to these stories like "See? They're animals."

And that's what's aggravating, the fact that these portrayals succeed in swaying opinions.

Am I to believe the worst story of a white person acting out of line... is Peyton's brother doing whatever he did that got like 2 seconds of coverage early this morning?

And if you seek to tell me this ISN'T damaging, save your post. I want to see who else sees it, what anyone tries to do about it, studies on racially biased media coverage; dialogue about a huge problem.

Do you suggest these news agencies sweep any negative stories about black athletes under the rug?

Did you forget about that Nascar driver being vilified, or Richie incognito and that dirtbag Eagles receiver being all in the news? How about all the heat Manziel and Gronk get for partying? The list goes on and on (Lance Armstrong, Ryan Braun, Phil Mickie for tax evasion, etc etc etc).

I guess I'm not sure where you're going with this... Did you just want to tell us your not racist and these stories don't negatively impact your views on black people? Awesome! Me either! Let's go split some cookies!!!

i dont see it like that. non-black athletes get scrutinized as well. but that's just my view

Only thing I ever seen a white athlete get scrutinized for is steroid use. Maybe Riley Cooper counts, Ben pretty much skated when it came to his off the field issues.

*I'll also throw in Pistorius....but he got off too.

For all the ****** up things he did Lance did not get crucified the way he was supposed to. he ruined people's careers and lives protecting his lie :smh:

And now he's on dancing with the stars LOL

Also it ain't just sports but black people always get it hard from the dominant society. It's also worse in Bible Belt states because it houses some of the most racist and close minded individuals in america. I call EM the Fox News followers

Riley Cooper skated and was never crucified. What made it worse was mike vick caping for him which basically let him off the hook. Cooper is a stone cold redneck....grew up around enough to know one especially the way he let N fly out his mouth.

I dont know if you guys realized but most of the money in sports come from white consumers....go to any basketball, football stadium and see how many white ppl there are compared to blacks.  White ppl are funding the sports more so most of the stories and decisions in said sports will cater to them more.

So that makes it right?

Stupidest thing I've read on here in awhile

That doesnt make it right that just explains why things are  the way the are.

If black people spent more money on going to games and buying NFL products you would see a difference.  There arent even any black owners for goodness sakes.

Take basketball for instance, more black people pay to go to NBA games and we sure as hell buy more NBA products.  And they are kicking out racists left and right.  Its simple, they cater to the people who give them the most money what part dont you agree with or understand

So you are trying to say black people don't watch the NFL or go to games?

Man what?

Shoot Ill go even further and tell you about the DMV.  Over here they changed the basketball team from the Bullets to the Wizards ASAP because the name's undertones would affect the largely black fan base (pre gentifrication)

But they havent changed the football team's name because very few Native Americans pay to go to NFL games.

It's simple economics you make changes to cater to the customer

What I have noticed was that as soon as the nation began to pay close attention to what was going on in Ferguson, and the calls for White people to join in and support the cause against such injustice began to come in, all of a sudden Black men and their stumbles began to gain the top spotlight in the media. TMZ reporting on an already judged issue, began the onslaught. Now, what Ray Rice did was wrong, no doubt about that, but the footage in the elevator knocked Ferguson off the front page, and I do not think that it was done by accident.

During the Bush White House years, Saturday Night Live ran a skit called "Distractor", who was a super hero who came around whenever Bush's White House screwed up, ala Hurricane Katrina, who then did something to distract a possible unified nation away from the elephant in the room.

We have had Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Micheal Brown, the deranged woman on the freeway being punched repeatedly in the face by the cop in California, and many others which points to some of the police in this country, being out of control. There are even reports of some officers being affiliated with the KKK, then being forced to resign, but what is the media focused upon?

Ray Rice, and Adrian Peterson.

The message being sent, in my opinion at least, is that Black men are to be feared, handled, and they do not care about their women, nor their children.

Maybe I am wrong, maybe this is just a bad dream, but it is one that I think that some have been sharing since 1619.

So you are trying to say black people don't watch the NFL or go to games?

Man what?
No Im saying there are more white people PAYING to watch the NFL or go to games.

The important word is PAYING.

There are already more white people than black.  There are almost more hispanic people than black nowadays, which explains why NFL and NBA are pushing to market that demographic as well.

This about the money yall.

The disparity in negative media coverage has more to do with how society reacts to the same crimes perpetrated by different races. Compare Kobe and Ben Roethlisberger, Kobe is one of the most reviled figures in sports in many circles.

If you think Ben 'skated by' then you are simply misremembering. Maybe the civil case but not Georgia. He was dragged through the mud and back for a while (rightfully so)
New organizations are for profit companies, they will do what's best for their bottom line. They have bias, they have agendas, they have a certain audience they want to capture

I agree that there's tremendous racial bias in sports media.

I also hate how people fall into these traps defending the acts of guys like Rice, Hardy, or Peterson in trying to point out that bias.

Ben didn't skate, though the way it's never mentioned now is a classic example of how athletes/coaches can get away with anything "long as you football good".

My point was stated: discussion.

But did I forget 'that nascar driver'? No, I didn't... but because the media has forgotten about him, it appears you've done the same. His name is Tony Stewart, and it makes sense the media is over him, since it's not like he ended someone's life.

Oh wait, yes he did.

Same w/ Pistorious, whose story is potentially far more heinous than any story in sports right now, but the media is telling me all about Adrian Peterson, Ray Rice, & ,Jameis Winston (who basically cussed at a college party... which is far more newsworthy than potential murder).

It's simple...NFL vs. Nascar/Track. Nobody cares about the latter. The media knows this. It's a media bias in this case and not a racial one.

Wes welker got caught poppin mollies but they almost never talked about that...
