Let's talk racism in sports journalism: Rice, Peterson, Hardy, Dwyer, McWhatever, & Winston in NCAA

Riley cooper says probably the most racist comment I ever heard out of a modern day athlete with his friends telling him to stop and skates free. Winston jokingly screams a meme out in front of college kids and gets a laugh out of everyone and is crucified in the media for being immature.

Coopers status as a pro isn't on the same level as Jameis.

Dudes a championship QB at FSU and is a top 5 pick.

Before that incident who was Riley Cooper ?

Your right, riley cooper isnt that good but look at his contract...its fat as hell and undeserved/unwarranted just like jj watts and all the other white athletes.

Lets talk about why white roleplayers and bench warmers get such lucrative contracts

Im not callin your man crush watt a benchrider but even he was shocked about gettin that money.

. Rashard Lewis and Gilbert Arenas aren't white last I checked.

No one has ever contended "No white person EVER gets blasted!"

Or "Literally EVERYTHING black people do is oversensationalized!"

Of course there are exceptions to the overall dynamic.

Riley cooper hasnt even caught 100 combined ball in his entire career but he gets a new contract??? When TO couldnt even get a contract even tho hes a top 5 wr of all time..

Steve nash won back to back MVPs and it was probably because he's white. His teams never even smelled the finals either.

Jay cutler raping the bears out of almost a quarter billion and all he did was throw a lot of picks

I'm not sure if this is a media thing or just a society thing but I hate how conclusions about minorities are often based off of the actions of a relatively small number. Ray Rice, Dwyer, and Jameis made their own decisions and choices. Their actions are a reflection of them not the entire Black population but when you have the media or whomever using these incidents to somehow say most Black people are just like them or predisposed to making the same choices that is wrong and irresponsible journalism.

OBAMA OBAMA , the intent is intelligent discussion of a very serious issue.

If you have nothing intelligent to add, please don't sidetrack the discussion w/ things like Watt riding the bench or how Cooper stacks up to TO. There's an NFL thread to discuss players.

Thanks.

Biased journalism is what ended T.O(an nfl legend) career. And if these so called journalist did there job cooper would be on ma's couch drinking bud iights on Sundays like a fan

I'm so tired of this ****. I gotta come to online forums just to get the damn news.

Look how espn suckered lebron into "the decision". he never even would have agreed to that if they didn't tell him they would donated all the money made from it to the boys and girls club. They just wanted him to look like some arrogant flashy black jerk. They almost never mention anything about the funds raised from the decision.

Painting blacks in a bad light is our country's media best past time. LOL you want to see stereotypes of black males reinforced on the public psyche than watch FOX News. The ignorant will always let these situations strengthen their closed minded ignorant views on young blacks. I'm no longer worried about such and such black Athlete or celebrity fokking up and painting our race in a bad light. I'm tired of our people being the only race who are judged, viewed and generalized by our worst.

Its kinda simple to me.

This is a country that was founded upon the tenet that "All men are created equal", well except the ones we treat as property and base our entire economy on the exploitation of their free labor.

In order for White America to handle the cognitive dissonance that is associated with the treatment of Black people in this country they have to look at us as inhuman or subhuman.

So any imagery that portrays us as violent, stupid or lazy is always going to permeate popular culture.

Its how they cope.

You remember when Dez was trying to motivate Romo on the sideline last season. But ESPN went on and on trying to vilify him as some selfish egotistical demonstrative distraction. They were sayin he was crying for the ball and wasnt about the TEAM. But than the NFL leaked the audio and it was in fact Dez trying to motivate Romo.....

....ahhh Media Bias.

Which is why there is a systematic effort to demonize and dehumanize Black victims of police brutality. It's easier to say "they had it coming or they're just bad people" than to accept that we are humans too.

I mentioned the disparity in coverage a few days ago on Twitter with the Ray Rice issue. Rice is being made the poster child for Domestic Violence in this nation, yet there was no mention at all by the media to this extent or any outcry when Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov put the hands of God on his girlfriend and told her that if they were in Russia she would have gotten it much worse than she already did. The media is for profit and they do have a bottom line. Race baiting is big for them because it brings in clicks and boosts their stats.

I'm sorry guys...I still can't go along with this when we're comparing a Russian NHL player and a Woman's soccer player to the behemoth NFL and one of its former stars.

you shouldn't need those examples to see it but since you don't then I'll make a mental note of the population you belong to

i dont see it like that. non-black athletes get scrutinized as well. but that's just my view

Wes welker got caught poppin mollies but they almost never talked about that...

Iggy azaleas sextape got leaked and no one is reporting that..even tho she has the #1 & #2 most popular songs out at the moment...hmmmm probably cause she suckin on a bbc in the video

it leaked?

 And this is why racism in the media goes unchecked. Because the NFL is a behemoth, we should ignore what other athletes have done? Ok. Yet let's spend hours critiquing Jameis Winston for stealing crab legs and shouting in the student union.

Patrick Kane is my guy, but let it had been a NBA/NFL player that beat up a cabbie and you'd see the media fallout.

You don't get it.

Like I said previously, the bone you want to pick with these instances is with the media. They chew up and spit out anything relating to the NFL. Black or white, they want an NFL story. They won't get those same ratings by talking about a woman soccer player.
