http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/23/n...th-marijuana-and-guns-officials-say.html?_r=1Nyesha McPherson, of Scarborough, Ontario, was traveling on a Canadian passport and had a ticket to Barbados when she was taken into custody at around 6:30 a.m. at Terminal 5.
Transportation Security Administration officers first became suspicious when Ms. McPherson’s checked luggage set off an alarm on a baggage-screening machine.
When an agent picked up the bags, they seemed strangely heavy, according to the authorities.
The bags were stuffed with a seemingly benign assortment of household items, including boxes for baby wipes, coffee, floor-dusting sheets, lemonade mix, iced tea mix and a box of cat litter.
“But, none of those boxes or cans contained the products on the labels,” according to a statement from the T.S.A.
“Instead, T.S.A. officers detected two disassembled .40-caliber handguns, 350 rounds of ammunition, four magazines for the guns and 58 bricks of marijuana totaling 33 pounds, all artfully concealed in the boxes, tubs and cans of everyday household products,” according to the statement.
