Does anyone here own one?

Been contemplating getting one for over a year now. Might pull the trigger around black Friday. I know the obvious pros of owning one but I also feel like owning would motivate a burglar to see what you're trying to protect in your home.

I have 3 setup outside my house and no thief would even see them unless they were really trying to find them. My wife didn't even know I put them up until one day I wanted her to see our 3yr old son deciding to strip down naked a run around the yard for no apparent reason. Pulled up the recording for her to see when she got home. Also set up cameras inside the house that cover the 3 outside doors, 1 on the safe and 1 in the basement to watch our sump pumps. All auto record when motion is detected and have night vision. No real reason to have them besides I like technology and it gave me something to do one week. We really only use it to make sure the mowing crew actually stops by and mows when we are out of town and that the cleaning lady's do everything they are suppose to.

:pimp:
There's one facing our driveway but I think if we had more, I would feel a little too guarded. Thus probably a little paranoid. No thanks.

Where do you guys live? And do you think they're necessary?

I'm in Miami. It's not the most dangerous neighborhood but crime happens. Few years ago my car for broken into 3 times within months. Most recently my neighbor's house was broken into. I noticed she got ADT soon after.

Info please. Seen a few different ones at Costco, but not sure what will work for me. I do like the idea of being low key, and not having obvious cameras all over the place.

I'm using all trendnet securview pro equipment. It's expensive but it was one of the few systems that I could put together to run exactly as I wanted. At the time Most in box systems only would run 4-6 cameras and I was set on 8 cameras, plus I wanted to run it off a dedicated computer on my home network. I think I paid around 400 for each of the outdoor cameras and then 125-150 for the 5 indoor cameras. Luckily we have high vaulted ceilings with built in niches in the walls so the indoor cameras sit in the niches with decor around them which makes them pretty well hidden. Only blatant camera is over the sump pump pits in the unfinished portion of the basement. The outdoor cameras sit recessed in the soffit so they don't hang down and stand out to people. Again my system is overkill for most especially for the neighborhood we live in(Floyds knobs,IN for those who asked) but it was a project I wanted to test first on my own home before I installed it around our office building and around my dad's apartment buildings. I've built 5 systems now and the prices are steadily getting more reasonable from when I first installed mine 2 years ago.

I've been thinking about setting up 3 or 4 camera on the front and back doors just in case. Is having a dedicated computer on the network standard?
