Denzel's performance in Mo' Better Blues aint the same performance he gives in Flight or Malcolm X or Book of Eli or John Q, etc.

I havent seen Flight and Malcom X is the exception, but for the most part its still the same cool *** Denzel in the other movies.
Idk why he just recently started doing kick *** roles doe(Book of Eli, The Equalizer, Safe House, ect), he shoulda BEEN hoped on that train.

He Got Game and The Siege are two different ppl imo. If you think he's cool in both blame whoever wrote the characters and the guys who keep casting Denzel in these roles.
He basically does cool well so when they want a cool black guy they call him.
Aint nobody calling Denzel some chameleon actor that's better than DDL. Thing is when ppl name actors that are allegedly better than him they suffer from the same stuff they accuse Denzel of (similar performances) but because that actor is they're fav they're ready to yell out some specific movie where they showed some range to them.

Takers was horrible and Walker barely had a part in it sadly. i think it would have been better if he was more of a main character with more lines. Still crap movie with all those names/stars

Understood. Im saying Denzel isn't good, he is great, but I think we, as in black folk(please dont let that turn this into a race thread), give him a weeeeeeeeeeee bit more credit then he maybe should get because we feel like we're supposed to.
Is it really 3 different personas or the same persona with different backgrounds??

Personally though, I'm fine with naming a couple white actors I like better than him and feel are better.
Training Day is definitely a different persona
Denzel usually has the roles where he's playing the good guy (which he's done the most) and then from there it's some journey for the character (is it a John Q situation or a In Time situation or is it a redemption story for the character like He Got Game) but mostly same persona, then ppl realized he can play a great bad guy (Training Day and American Gangster), then if you're good at being a bad guy it's only natural you'd be good at playing a gray area character with a dark past or w/e (The Equalizer, Safe). You most likely not gonna see him do anything more than that now. Maybe a comedy for a change or maybe seem play a coward crying all the time like a ***** to shake things up but that's about it. Won't be seeing Denzel in a dress.
Like many great actors that end up being typecast it becomes the case that other than their best performances the only other place to look for more experimentation and range is when they started their careers. I feel when Denzel was working with Spike Lee and his early stuff in general was when he was getting pushed the most as an actor. He struck gold with Malcolm X though and that was that as far as ppl saying he plays the same guy. He was already famous cuz of Cry Freedom and Glory but that wasn't fully the Denzel we know in his prime.
