So often we talk about the 90s and really only mention Fresh Prince and Martin as the top tier black comedies....but A Different World was another certified classic. Show had everything. Hella cameos. Dwayne and Ron in maaaad jordans. Drama. 2pac. Rodney King riots. Racism. Domestic Abuse. College. Jada Pinkett. OG sinbad. Flip glasses. Skinny jeans. Jackie Jackson Preach from Cooley high. Bill Cosby. Drugs. Cheating. Guns. Tons of laughs, a bunch of sad times too. The finale always brings those feels. Dwayne was swag king kong b. Morisa Tomei. I definitely think a lot of the crowd reactions and mannerisms and such that martin and will had were spurned by Dwayne.

A Different World & the Cosby Show are def appreciated.

I remember when Whitley left ole dude at the altar I was like what?!!?!?!!!

One of my favorite shows of all time. It came at a time when a lot of black kids were coming into consciousness and many HBCU's saw an increase in attendance becasue of this show.

I was devastated when I found out Hillman was fictional.

When 2pac snuffed on Dorian I almost fell out lol

Def appreciated my fav episode is when ron and Dwayne got into that fight at the homecoming game against superman, that show was still good even with that re boot around 92 with the new students on it

Well it was technically fictional, many of the real world shots used throughout the show were from Spellman and Morehouse. Also from what I hear Howard University was basically a real like Hillman College back in the 90's. So many entertainers and business moguls attended Howard back in the day.

And yes 2pac's appearance was :pimp:

Major ******* props..Rarely do you see people talking about this show especially this era of youngsters, but this is one of the most profound shows ever aired and I still watch it pretty much everyday...Dealt with a lot of social issues and stuff that other shows were a bit too safe to talk about..I miss shows like this and i'm sure glad as hell I grew up in an era where they had shows like this one...

This show was definitely ahead of its time man. The Rodney King riots and Dwayne and Whitley's honeymoon was a crazy intense episode. And the ep with the new class when Terrell and Charmaine got run off the round and Terrell showed up to school with the pistol, then they did the conversation assignment with Martin & Malcolm explaining the whole situation. Tough business.

Man that episode was crazy. Extremely realistic. I was like, 'Et Tu Superman :frown:'

I loved the growth of the characters. Whitley went from being an extremely bourgeoisie snobbish little country girl to a caring, loving, friendly bourgeoisie snobbish little country girl. I loved how connected to the Cosby show A different World was in the first season. All the carry over and cameos were clutch.

How so? With how dumbed down everything is now I could see you maybe reaching this conclusion, but I feel like this show was a direct reflection of it's time.

It was ahead of its time from the standpoint it started a lot of the themes and story lines that we were seeing in the later 90s but forget about and instead credit martin and will for the antics. Plus they were definitely pushing the limit on what was talked about on tv at that time. Especially the racially charged episodes.

This was one of my favorite shows when I was young(still is). They picked up where Cosby Show left off and ran with it. They touched on so many topics back then and will always be appreciated by me.

you forgot Cree Summer.

yes lawd...especially when she got in that law program...shorty got sooooo sexual on me

The Wedding ep., the one where Gina is dating the dude that beating her up

The one with En Vogue as Mr. Gaines nieces

the one where someone started spray painting the N word on Dwayne's car, then at the end of th ep. someone came through and finished it.

man there are soooo many good episodes all the way to the end.

I went to TSU and in the student center the cook in the game room

always reminded me of Mr. Gaines

Loved this show. I kinda wish there was a show like this today but then again it would probably be corny and too politically correct.

For a minute I thought this was my old Different World thread getting bumped  greatly appreciated. The best shows are always the ones that can still hold up today as far as different issues, and this show was one of them. Hated when Lisa Bonet was on there though. The shift in the overall show changed when she left, and for the good.

DeWayne Wayne and Ron Johnson shoe and jersey game was major. So true that it dealt with so many topics. Classic!!!
