'A Different World' Appreciation Thread Vol. Classic

This show is beyond legendary. The way that black culture was portrayed on this show was uncanny. Shout out to the NTer (I forget his name) who gave me the heads up on copping a Hillman College pullover. I rock it with my black cement 3's word to Dwayne Wayne and the first episode of the second season

nah all I googled were the pix. The og post was really just all my random thoughts and events and themes I could remember off the top. I've seen every episode multiple times though. It never gets old to me. The show started because initially denise was written out of the cosby show because she had some nude pix out at the time and it was crazy controversial...but the cosby's liked her a lot, and bill's son wrote the spinoff specifically for her, and her exploits at college. She was the main character in the first season, but the show was just ok. Then they picked up Debbie Allen. The first decision was to drop Denise since she got pregnant and boost Marisa Tomei, but she bounced (First season Hillman had white students too, but no other season did), and build up every character, while mainly, yet subtly focusing on Dwayne and Whitley. They became the Hov and Bey of the show. Could do no wrong. The show blossomed for another 6 years. Was wild how much Dwayne grew character wise between the 1st and 2nd season. Dude was just a goofy, nerdy kid...then he turned into this genius stud that was smashing broads left n right. Wild.

I had never seen the Kriss Kross nor the Tupac episodes until last year, and those were hilarious. The dude from Jacksons The American Dreams got washed by Tupac for Jada Pinkett's love

I was a youngin went it went off air but I caught all the re runs in high school

I liked it cause it wasn't a corny show but it was a positive & it delt w/ issues black people really went through made me want to go to a HBCU ...the females was :pimp: too Denise,Freddie,Kim,jalisa from that '92 wave Charmaine had a fatty & Gina was sexy

Oh and Ron & Dwayne kick game>>>>

For some reason I could not get down with this show back in the day. I rocked with fresh prince family matters etc I would catch this from time to time but just couldn't **** with it. Too young maybe? Idk it just didn't appeal to me. Never caught it as an adult tho it might be dope from a more mature perspective

oh bro I had to look that up, that would be so dope if Debbie can get the green light to reboot it. I don't really rock with Oprah or her network too much, but that might be one of the only options. It definitely needs to go to a network that allows the show to be real and legitimate.

Found an interesting article on it
They knew what was up. Both shows were lucky to ever even see the airwaves, much less be able to see the level of success they saw. Black people living good was 'unrealistic'..lol...smh come on man. It was even like this was the 50s-60...this was the 80s! Black people were well on their way up.
Keep spitting that knowledge fam...

This is a box collection that needs to release. They keep releasing Seinfeld and boy meets world and other shows, but ADW only gets season one released on DVD? Come on man!

Hated the show when I was a kid. Never watched as a adult. Probably won't either. Definitely would band Lisa and Cree though.

I can't stand Witley or that awful voice.

I don't know how yall weren't feeling whitley. At least those first couple seasons. She was NICE in season 2. Plus she was a trained dancer and they had her doing yoga n ****. She had an attitude...but she was a virgin too, prolly just needed that get right.
