Ever wonder if your car is the one being targeted for speeding tickets, and not you for your impeccable driving skills? According to Insurance.com, you may have a point. Their list of the most ticketed vehicles by percent among owners is an eclectic list of sports cars, pocket rockets, and some models that haven’t been seen for decades. Did your care make the top 20?

If you drive a Subaru WRX and are frequently ticketed for speeding, it may be time to slow down… or trade in for something less notorious. Insurance.com has released their list of the most ticketed cars by percent in the United States, and the 'Rex tops the charts.

The list was based on insurance quotes from almost 550,000 drivers a month, and the most ticketed cars were determined by the percentage of owners of that particular vehicle that had received a moving violation at any point. Overall, 526 models were included, but what you find in the top 20 may surprise you.

Overall, the highest ticketed model was the Subaru WRX, which is not necessarily surprising considering its long reputation as the ultimate boy-racer. Of all surveyed drivers, 33.6-percent had reported being ticketed at some point while owning the car. Maybe it’s time to ditch the gold wheels and massive spoiler to save yourself some run-ins with the law…

Rounding out the top five are the subtle-but-fast Pontiac GTO (32.7%), the fast-looking-but-slow Scion FR-S (32.6%), the Fast N’ Furious-tastic Toyota Supra (30.8%), and the curiously-named-and-styled Subaru Tribeca (29.7%).

Other than the Tribeca, none of the top 5 vehicles are particularly surprising, but it’s further down the list where things get interesting. The Mercury Topaz (28.8%) sits at number 7 on the list, and hasn’t been on the market since 1994. For all of you Topaz-owning speed demons out there, the police are on to you!

Other odd top-20 finishers include the long-dead Suzuki Reno (28.1%) and the recently-dead Saturn Aura (27.1%).

For those of you whose cars finish in the top-20, consider switching to something less frequently ticketed, like a Dodge Viper (5.3%), which curiously finished at 522 on the 526-car list. Do yourself a favor and get a less

Isnt it a rebadged Ford Contour?...

Rebadged Ford Tempo... not sure if its underpinnings are related to the contour or not.

Expected to see different versions of chargers, magnums and BMW on list, left very disappointed.

I'm sure racial profiling is the reason for the Topaz being high up there. Minorities are the only folks driving those in 2014.

Ha, my roommate from Chicago had a Topaz when we first got to school. Piece of #%*¥ but I'll be damned if it didn't start up every time. Key broke off in the ignition to top it off. There was at least 10 of us that whipped that joint on a daily basis. If it was in the parking lot and you needed it, it was yours as long as it came back with gas in it. Lot of illegal activity in that topaz.
