American Sniper

A lot of you dudes have no idea what the word propaganda means

I liked the movie btw. I think it showed a ton of negative aspects. The relationship he had with his wife, transitioning into society and all the injured vets. How can so many of you have so many strong opinions and then claim to never actually seen it?

Hate these "thank me for my service" types  Funny how America got brainwashed into worshiping the military when a few decades ago most people were standing up to and protesting against our unnecessary military presence in other countries.

"People in the military are heroes" this isn't the same military from the 1940s

"thank me for my service" types? you're funny

Even after finding out this movie is mainly just some right wing fapping material, and that the only thing Kyle was better at than sniping was writing fan fiction about himself. I'm still not cool with people ******** on dude.

Dude was misguided as hell but he deserves my respect and thanks, just not my praise.

We just reacted to what beans said. He keeps trying to deflect but he essentially insinuated that if we haven't put on that uniform, keep your opinions to yourself.

In OKC, I was at the airport waiting for my luggage, and started talking to a plain clothed Air Force man. I said "thank you for all you do", and he said, "I sit at a computer all day, don't thank me"

It's apparent that not ALL military personal share the same sentiment that beans does.

I was done in this thread till i read this.. when have i at all insinuated that i need praise for what ive done? When have i asked to be thanked or that any of you owe me a damn thing? Again where you got this perception of me or my agenda in this thread is beyond me. I will state again, that my only intention was stating that i don't enjoy the opinions of the events that took/take place overseas from ppl who have not been there. And that no matter how informed you make yourself, it's very easy to pass judgment on something you have no firsthand experience in..I never once asked for your understanding on my opinion or your acceptance, this is my opinion and mine alone... I have not stated that I am Pro-war or that you're not entitled to YOUR opinion and yet this argument keeps coming up.. apparently everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as its what they deem valid.

I'm not celebrating folks who enlisted because they had no other way to go in life.

I will celebrate the old timers who were drafted and current folks who truly wanted to to go tho

You just went full ******. A requirement for all officer's in any military branch is a college degree. You want to become a Navy Seal? You have to have a college degree. You want to be a Green beret? You need one too. That's why these soldiers in SOCOM are so damn respected and valuable. They are just as intillegent as your college honor grad and just as athletic as any athlete you will ever meet. Try again little guy

I never dissed an officer ......my dissing was at the ones who ENLISTED who had no choice in life

so calm ya lil emotional *** down

I know and I'm related to a few officers

so you're reserving honor for Officers and those that enlisted with a career plan and not for the people that werent doing **** else with their lives at the time so they decided to join.

the person that enlisted because they had no choice in life still volunteered correct?

had do you rationalize this feeling?

just so we are being fair.. there are a ton of programs/courses/education offered to ppl getting out.. we even send ppl we are kicking out to these classes/programs.. additionally. there is a ton of VA's and Job opportunities available post military (USAJOBS.org).. Is it a guarantee no, but to say we do nothing to help them is a stretch..

I did want to watch this movie, buy after seeing posts in here I rather not. Even without seeing it I can tell its a good movie and Cooper is becoming the new DiCaprio, but it being what seems like a pro war movie is what stops Me.

You can do BUDS,18x, and a whole lot of other jobs without being an officer that require a degree which makes you what? Enlisted. So again your "enlisted soldiers had no choice in life" buffoonery is wrong. Please enjoy that short bus

I saw this last week, Cooper is okay but the film really doesn't have any secondary characters worth caring about and overall the story just doesn't feel complete. Hollow film, disappointing for sure.
Being a former marine i found too many holes in the story... how he got attached to the 5th Marines?? I served in that regiement and i do not recall seals openly hanging out with Marines on camp... whatever

Its hard to deal with our own individual problems as u saw chris had PTSD but used his fellow servicemen as a crutch to help himself without being a burden to anyone..

The only people who treat us like Gods are Women, the army airforce and select navy personnel... as far as marines go thats all i can speak about...

You still don't get it. You're too stubborn to admit what you implied.

I have an uncle who served in the first gulf war...went in an artist, came back with psychological issues and bounces in and out of jail. He's paid 3k a month which nothing when you can no longer function like a normal person. I didn't have to put on a uniform to have opinion; I lived it.

Yup, exactly how I feel.

I'm wondering, for the people who call these men and woman pawns and what not....how old were yall when 9/11  happend? reason i asked is, do you remember how the United States was when the plane crashed into the twin towers?

Yea I was a Frosh in HS and heard the planes fly over my school. Anything else you want to cover? Oh yea maybe I should add that I had a lot of friends that lost parents and other relatives to the crash and I witnessed the grief it caused them. Maybe I should state that I was part of my HS's JROTC program as well. Either way yes military personnel are pawns. They maybe signed up with sometimes the right intentions but are manipulated to going to a war that was started based off false pretenses. Just like Vietnam was, and boy do we have a lot of damage individuals now in their 60s and 70s from that war.

34 here, ex New Yorker, lost my aunt on 9/11 and come from a long line of service men.

The country definitely came together, and the city/people were so close. However, the moment they decided to go to Iraq I knew it was a joke.
