Houston Rockets Thread - Preseason vs Spurs (Friday)

Dwight rustles jimmies because he could easily be so much better than he already is by hitting free throws, not being a mental ******, and developing a more reliable post game.

With all that being said, he's still damn good

He's elite at rim protection, but there's better value out there. None that are realistic to obtain probably, so here we are. He's been critical to our success, but we know what it is in the greater scheme.

and like Jew said, dude is crazy talented. Adds to the frustration of watching him play

It's VERY frustrating watching him miss FTs. But it was also frustrating watching Smith, Capela, TJones, Dorsey, D-Mo (when he played) and on some occasions, Harden miss them as well  I didn't trust anybody going to the line. It's crazy that in 4 years our FT shooting turned into complete **** compared to when Scola, Martin, Dragic, Lee, and Brooks were here.

ha, agree. Josh/Dwight are twin head cases. Beard has had his moments, but he's been more or less elite at the line. Probably High 80s/low 90s most of the reg season.

just looked it up, he was killing even more than I thought when you consider volume + %. 92% in the playoffs off 10.5 attempts :x (smh @ Dwight/Deandre volume)

Dude legitimately needs to embrace this facilitator role and try to take over the league. (He said the best player thing himself and most everyone laughed at it. He's had his moments where you see unlimited potential.)

and I've been re-watching the playoff games. If dude literally just stops the neck snap, I think he'd get a bunch more calls. Arm baiting and all

Out: Terrence Jones, Kostas Papanikalou, 1st pick of the 2nd round

In: Darren Collison, Nik Stauskus.

Doesn't affect our ability to bring back brew and smith , and gives us insurance if bev walks to a bigger offer than we want to match. Also not accounting for Llull, JET, Nick Johnson and KJ.

Bev/Collison or Collison Llull
Harden/Stauskus
Ariza/brewer
Dmo/Smith
D12/Capela

Thoughts?

I can see needs being addressed. This may be what we work with that's realistic...

but If Harden complained in the media about needing playmaker relief...only to get Darren Collison for all of that, I'm gonna be mad

No thank you 6-0, 170 point guard
No thank you giving up the 2nd pick of the 2nd round in a deep draft

Sauce Castillo? We believe in him? I haven't formed an opinion on his future yet. But he was a top 10 pick. Supposedly able to handle along with the wet shot.

Collison is a "capable" ball handler/ pick and roll guy. Just an option to think about. Also a very capable defender. As for as sauce, I don't trust the Kings organization in general in terms of talent development.

Maybe no pick then?

I agree Collison isn't the answer harden is looking for. I'm gonna go team by team and see what we can work with.

Also, I don't follow college basketball as close as I used to so I'm in the dark on the draft. Any information would be appreciated.

I honestly have no idea who Nik Stauskus is other than him playing for the Kings. To me though, Collison is Pat Bev with less defense and a fraction better offense than Bev has. I think he'd be more than competent, but I feel like we simply need somebody better. Hell. I'd take Aaron Brooks Pt 3 at this point

do work son do work son

agreed that we may not have seen the best of Nik. Kings easily could be holding him back. My take on Nik is that he was not super highly touted, but his tourney and pre-draft workouts catapulted him to that 8th pick. I think he tested better in the agility drills than most thought. and also I remember his dribbling being better than most expected.

that said, still seems like a risk at this point in the game but who knows, it could be a steal. I'm just not how sure this organization would invest in enabling Stauskas. We don't really "enable" any of our youngster. Mostly just trial by fire at random moments.

taking away the pick in that scenario leaves basically TJ/Pap for Darren/Nik....

I'd argue that TJ alone should be enough to get Collison/Nik. That's probably some bias there, and would truly be determined on the open market.

as for that 2nd pick, for all intents and purposes, that's a late 1st rounder.

I've heard we could get Andrew Harrison there. I really want the hometown homie to get his mind right and play for us. I again go back to us not really enabling youngsters, so ehh. But if you look at this mock draft, there's some youngsters who could still pan out to be high level talent. I really wouldnt want to trade out of this draft unless we're getting a bonafide starter or a role player that we're 100% comfortable with their contributions as a starter or 1st/2nd option off the bench.

Looking at that mock, you have guys like Cliff Alexander, Joseph Young, Terry Rozier, Rakeem Christmas (something tells me this guy is gonna be a steal) going early/mid 2nd. I'm still a fan of hoarding talent, even if we don't enable it correctly.

Ty Lawson

I heard this guy wants to be a Mav. Heard he's not super fond of Beard either. Ty wants to have the ball in his hands a lot. (more or less exclusively). If we can get him and turn him into a 2nd option/facilitator/spot up, knockdown shooter, yes. If Lawson wants to be the same person, in our starting lineup, no.

Unless Beard somehow turns into Steph lite off the ball...

Ya I'm not sold on a Harrison either. But if it's a second rounder/D-League stash, I could live with it though.

are yall actually following them/their draft process though?

still hearing both twins in the same sentence at this point would tell me you aren't following them

Not "sold" on Andrew either, but as dude said, it's worth the 2nd/D-League stash considering how well his (Andrew) draft combine stuff is going so far. and more importantly, there are a list of names in that area, so it's not like he's the only option. There are enough options to not throw away that pick and throw away TJones's value

but, I would rather take a guy like Harrison with the 2nd rounder than a guy like Tyus Jones (mock drafts have us taking him) with our 1st rounder (#18) (unless tyus can knock down the 3 at a really high rate, d up, and facilitate (he can def facilitate))

One of the Harrison twins could be a good fit as a second round pick. I know what Beard says but let's be honest he's going to dominate the ball. So a Ty Lawson or Tyus Jones wouldn't be good fits since I think both need the ball a lot to be effective. Plus neither strikes me as a good spot up shooter. From what I've seen both are much better off the bounce but I could be wrong. Plus Tyus and Nick are basically the same guy...I'd stick with Nick another year to see what he can do since he's got NBA experience now and hopefully is now working hard to crack the rotation or challenge for a starting spot.

The Harrison who took and made big shots for KU (don't remember his name) is big enough to defend the 1 or 2...isn't afraid to take and make big shots...and has a decent stroke off the pass. I'd take a flyer on that in the second round.

^agree. his stock is surging right now. Just heard that OKC is the lottery team that promised him they'd draft him. I would be more or less livid if OKC got em considering they swapped places with the Pels

Heard the Kings and Pacers might be interested too

someone said Lawson and Jimmy had beef
