With the Lakers naming Jeremy Lin their starting point guard for Tuesday, Rockets guard Pat Beverley will take on the player he replaced as Rockets starter for the first time. But he said as well as he knows Lin’s game, Lin knows his, too.
“J-Lin’s is a person I learned under when he was here,” Beverley said. “He taught me offense, where to get my shots. J-Lin was a person I was honored to have as a teammate, that I looked up to while he was here. We’re definitely going to have fun playing against each other. I’m happy for him. I’m sad things happened to Steve Nash, of course, but at the same time, I’m happy for Jeremy.”
Mostly, Beverley said it would be fun to face Lin as he did in so many practiced since Beverley signed with the Rockets in January, 2013.
“He’s going out there to try to win a basketball game for his team. I’m trying to do the same,” Beverley said. “At the end of the day, basketball is fun. It’s not like we’re going into a mining job. This is something we love to do. It’s going to be fun.”

Today the Houston Rockets made their final cuts, trimming Ish Smith, Jeff Adrien, Robert Covington (who we already knew was gone) and Earl Clark (who was just signed) from the roster.
The most surprising of these cuts was Adrien, who had clearly outperformed Joey Dorsey this preseason. However, Dorsey was given a two-year, guaranteed deal this summer, which forced Daryl Morey's hand in this situation. Going into the preseason, Adrien seemed like a lock to make the squad, but that was before Tarik Black showed the kind of grit that gives Kevin McHale the excitement most people his age use Viagra for.
The decision to go with Isaiah Canaan over Smith as the backup to Patrick Beverley was the correct one, in my opinion. Smith's quick and a solid passer, but his inability to put the ball in the hole or shoot the long ball is a big detriment, especially in a league where guys like Aaron Brooks are third-stringers. We've yet to see the best of Canaan, who is entering his second season, but he showed some real promise this preseason, displaying confidence, toughness and a solid jumper.
That being said, if Beverley goes down early in the year, which is always a possibility with the way he plays, that'll leave rookie Nick Johnson with the backup role, with Harden likely forced to log some minutes at the 1 as well. McHale showed that he wants to experiment with Harden at PG in this preseason, especially alongside Jason Terry, who is undersized at the 2.
It's a distinct possibility that the Rockets try to get Earl Clark in Rio Grande Valley. Clark has stretch-4 capabilities, which always appeals to the Rockets, and could be a solid piece off the bench if Donatas Motiejunas or Terrence Jones miss some time.
With the roster situation all figured out, preseason is officially over. Thank God.

i've said it before, but patrick beverly has really improved his jumpshot. you can see in his form. i've been hearing all offseason that the team is undergoing an "identity change" and pat bev has been at the head of it. getting guys to buy in to being more serious, committing on the defensive end etc. looks good that he's improved his game if he's gonna be the one preaching.
i'm looking for bev ariza and howard to turn up the intensity on defense, jones to continue trying to but most often being too small to have a big impact, and harden following suit and just flat out trying harder.

assuming no one has cooled off since the playoffs, he's a POS
I think he could be a valuable 6th man type in the league when you tell him to just go score, but he's def not a starter.

Lin did some good things, but they had Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic on the roster and somehow ended up with Lin as the PG :x

he'll average 17 6 and 4 on the season, and make you want to pull your hair out. he's wildly inconsistent. when he's good, he can be pretty good, when he's bad, he's HORRIBLE.
also, expect him at least once a game to drive into the lane, jump to pass, and turn it over. he also loves picking up his dribble in the paint and pivoting around to do nothing.

Basically my feelings. I wanted Lin to succeed badly, but he just never took that next step. And at this point, even with seemingly free reign on the Lakers, I still see him doing the same.

lack of preseason action has dwight looking a little winded. harden has been very conservative thus far. looking more like a playmaker.
we ran a couple real offensive sets, and have one possession where we passed it into dwight, he kicked it out of a double, we swung it around, another drive, and ended with a dwight dunk. looked spurs-esque
