Houston Rockets Thread - Preseason vs Spurs (Friday)

I'm in the minority, but I hope root sports doesn't get the channel. I hear all they do is pregame, the game, and post game shows, and maybe a weekly team show. CSNH has really good programming throughout the week and a lot of in depth coverage of the local teams. Not to mention, root would come in and probably let go half the working staff at CSNH. best case scenario would be to just make it available to everyone, which I'm not sure why Comcast would be opposed to at this point

1. The sale to AT&T/Direct TV is basically done. The issue is one of evaluation. When all the court crap is over it will be Root Sports.

2. All of the CSN employees have been let go and today is their last day, except Bart Ennis and Kevin Eschenfielder who were retained.

Blame here goes to the Rockets and Astros. They overvalued their product and no one wanted to carry it. In doing so, they pissed off a lot of fans and created instability for the CSN workers.

Greed did them in.

i have a really bad feeling mchale will bury daniels and canaan on the bench. send johnson to the d league, and give all those minutes to ish smith and jason terry

it's happening. first 2 guards up were ish and terry :x

daniels came in the 4th and knocked down a couple straight 3s though, but hey, what do i know?

The Astros had more control of everything than the Rockets did. If it was up to the Rockets, the deal would've been done a loooong time ago. Jim Crane was the money hungry savage who was overvaluing things. As soon as this deal is done, I'll actually support the Astros with genuine interest.

I'm pretty sure we all saw this coming :x :x :smh:

Canaan and Johnson had 20 of the Rockets 29 4th quarter points, along with Daniels earlier 3s. Those are the 3 guys that need to get consistent bench minutes, along with scoring, in addition to the play of Papa. Sure, Terry brings leadership and championship experience from almost 5 years ago, but he's not gonna be the future of this team, and won't even be a factor late in the season.

D-Mo stunk it up :x

Nick Johnson needs to refine his game in the d league. I'm starting to think the d league system needs tweaking. Feels like guys are being pigeonholed. No way Daniels should have been down there that long to only be a spot up shooter. he should've been working to add to his game and become a combo guard imo.

who yall think gets cut?

Putting my money on Ish and Garcia

Roster lookin like this opening Day

Bev-Canaan-Terry

Harden-Daniels-Johnson

Ariza-Papa

TJ-Dmo-Adrien-Capela

D12-Black-Dorsey

Looks like a spot on roster to me, but I figured it's a given that Capela plays for the Vipers. And though I definitely want Tarik Black on the team, can we get a legit 6'11+ backup center?? I feel like that's gonna hurt us unless Tarik is a 10/15 guy

yea can see johnson and capela in the dleague majority of the season

also agree that not having a legit sized center is gonna hurt us. We'll see as the season goes along tho

Black has really showed he can play I hope he transitions the way hes been playing in the presason to the regular season when it really counts

I just wanna see the games again. Good riddance to that channel.

FSN was never this good, ROOT will never be this good. They literally have an on depth segment of coverage for every local team, even high school.

Watching these guys last broadcasts :frown:

Just want to watch the games, don't care what other programming they have.

Closing arguments delayed till next Tuesday. There were seriously evaluation issues about furniture and fixtures in the CSN studio lol

If it was available for everybody to see, it would not have been flushed down the toilet . They came up with a fantastic idea and let it flourish in front of 3 people.

It's weird that we claimed Earl Clark off waivers and requested waivers on Josh Powell with the regular season right around the corner, and the Spurs tonight. What is Morey attempting  ?

Rockets sign Geron Johnson, waive Akil Mitchell

The Rockets signed guard Geron Johnson and requested waivers on forward Akil Mitchell, the team announced Thursday.

Johnson, a 6-3 guard, played in 97 games for the University of Memphis and averaged 9.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Johnson was a member of the Rockets’ Las Vegas summer league team.

Mitchell, a Virginia alum, played in the Rockets’ Orlando and Las Vegas summer leagues but did not play in any preseason games.

Nice game to end the preseason with :smokin Pretty much everybody did what they were supposed to other than Tarik and Dorsey. Tarik is more than likely safe though. But Dorsey....ehhhh....it's been real. Harden, Jones, Ariza, Bev, D-Mo, Canaan, and Papa all did their thing tonight. Terry, Ariza, and Papa had a real nice connection in there. These last 2 games should basically place Ish Smith on waivers.

couple thoughts on tonight's game

-our offense still has a tendency to run stagnant, i think it'll clear itself up with dwight back in the lineup.

-canaan earns the backup over ish smith every game. he's just a better shooter, and much more potent offensively.

-there is absolutely nothing jason terry brings to this team (that he's shown)

-i think tarik black held his own. he didn't look like he just didn't belong, which is generally what you get when you have a a backup against starters. dorsey looks like crap though, morey sold us reggie :smh:

-i can tell everyone is taking the defensive end of the court more seriously. better efforts to make rotations overall, but still work to be done. i even saw harden do that stupid reach around move last game, and instantly get pissed at himself. realizing there is a problem is the first step

Terry is just happy he's stealing checks from a contender and not the celtics or Kings anymore.

Ish Smith & Joey Dorsey cut, and expected.

Rockets Sign Richmond and Request Waivers on Johnson

HOUSTON – Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed Akeem Richmond as a free agent and requested waivers on Geron Johnson.

Richmond (6-0, 180, East Carolina), an undrafted free agent in the 2014 NBA Draft spent the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons at East Carolina after transferring from Rhode Island following his sophomore year. Richmond appeared in 139 contests over the course of his NCAA career (61 starts) averaging 11.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game in 25.3 minutes played. In his senior season, the point guard was named to the 2014 All-Conference USA Second Team.

Johnson (6-3, 203, Memphis), appeared in 67 contests at Memphis University holding career averages of 9.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in 28.3 minutes. Johnson was signed on October 24, 2014 and did not appear in any preseason games for the Rockets.

Also, Kenyon Martin interviewed for some coaching position here.
