Houston Rockets Thread - Preseason vs Spurs (Friday)

overreactions in here per usual. not surprised in the least. we scored 109 and missed everything for a full quarter. we missed a ton of open 3s. biggest issue was the over switching on PnRs and being outrebounded tonight.

good game my ***, we laid an egg. against this bum *** scrap heap Mavs roster. meanwhile real contenders are out here stepping on guys necks. pretty embarrassing man
we got one game out of two on the road

Team just couldn't hit outside shots, but they'll wrap this up in Houston mane, chill

The out rebounding was the biggest problem. Main looked like he was 7'9" out there. It was pretty embarrassing that Amar'e looked more than competent. Tavs should be getting wiped the floor with regardless of what adjustments they make. They have Amar'e, Charlie Villanueva, Raymond Felton, and Richard Jefferson on their team. You'd have to go back 10 years for that to even be a good starting lineup.

haa, i "over react" all the time, so I'll accept that role. Particularly when guys in other rounds are threatening to get brooms out against us. The Mavs are really, really bad.

It was just about effort and focus last night. You could tell early on when dwight was bricking every ft. He was super focused before, but just throwing it at the basket last night. Shots weren't even close to going in.

Got up 10+ in the second and tried to coast from there. They'll come out ready Tuesday and it'll be over. Still should be able to get some rest before the next round, because hopefully Spurs and clippers goes to 7.

that's the problem when you sit dude on the bench all year, have him traveling in/out of the D league, then throw him in the middle of a run in the damn playoffs

We could use some Isaiah, McHale says I don't play defense despite McHale's entire team not playing defense, Canaan action right now

20 useless Pablo Prigioni mins. I missed the 3rd Q. Why did TJ only get 17 mins?

That's why I was pissed lol...didn't want Johnson making stupid mistakes, because it's just another reason to keep him on the bench.

Yes. We could really use Canaan. You know the guy that got free reign in Philly and basically did nothing but chuck at a low percentage. The guy they got benched for Ish Smith.

We went almost a full quarter without hitting any shots, missed basically every three we put up, and scored 109 points. We should close out in five.

My only point of concern are the over switching on pick and rolls on defense, and the lack of effort on closeouts

admirable sarcasm, but asking Canaan to be an offensive role player and play spot minutes on the Rockets shouldnt be compared to a 2nd year guy competing with a 9 year guy for a starting PG position on a terrible team that needs more than just scoring from the 1. but you keep talking about not making shots in a game where Terry/Prigioni shot a combined 1-9 and played 40+ combined mins.

puglife puglife , yea, agree that we shouldn't have much expectation from him now because McHale hasn't given him minutes all year. Maybe that means him staying on the bench. But he (and others) have deserved a slice of mins all year. If you run a ship like Pop, I might understand it. He has guys come in and contribute right away and know his system. Not random contribution. We're more forced into baptism by fire due to injury/situation. I still ain't forgot about that random Troy Daniels magic from last year

i admit, it was dickish to phrase it the way i did. it's early and i'm upset we lost

even then, canaan had chances here and there, and in philly and he isn't the shot maker we thought. in my opinion at least. yes, we'll have games where terry and prigs don't hit. i just don't think we shoot as poorly for another game.

my biggest issue is with your boy JB Bickerstaff. yall have told me all year he runs the defense. then why do we switch pick and rolls and put guards on dirk at the high post instead of a hard hedge, let the PG recover, and rotate on the weak side to prevent easy layups?

haa, nah its good im on the same wave. mad as hell and being negative about it all.

I hear you on the JB thing. He only implemented a few high level techniques in our backcourt this year. and it wasn't exactly consistent (Pick up guys quickly after half court and force them to the sidelines.) We simply aren't going to be able to do that alone against a well coached team. We have to actually embrace defense. We still have yet to embrace it and implement an actual defensive system. As mentioned a lot earlier in the year, we just threw bodies at the problem.

Switching the picks was a little more tolerable when it was Beard/Bev in the backcourt, but how we gonna do that with Jet/Pablo? No team IQ/instinct. and I want to see more lineups with Beard, Brew, Trevor, (insert 4) and Dwight on the floor. Aminu frustrated Harden in the backcourt a couple of times, but its really not that hard to add a small wrinkle to stop all that. We just continued to let him iso.

Just thought about this the other night, but I wonder what J. Kidd (and staff) would have us looking like out here. Neither of his Brooklyn/Milwaukee rosters have been as talented as the Rox. He would have us locking up. My main concern would be how he pushes Beard's development/role on the team.

i think we close out in 5. it just sucks the way the last 2 games have gone. let's finish em out and regroup for next round. i'd like to see dwight get more involved on offense. miss dmo in the low post too :\

In Gm4, 26 of Rockets' 31 3's were uncontested. Smith: 4-5 on uncontested 3's. Rest of HOU: 3-21. Team 0-5 on contested 3's.

while we have a gap between the next game, what do yall guys think realistic offseason goals should be? anyone have an idea of what the cap situation will look like?

A healthy Beverley or any sort of pg upgrade.

With a few moves here & there they can get over 10 mil in space.

Smith Brewer Terry Beverley all FAs. Papa's deal can be moved with Dorsey & Prigs. IF they choose to move Jones or DMo they can get more.

Hmmm, based on those #'s, seems like we'll actually have a good amount of money. Unless I'm reading it wrong

Sign Brewer. Let everyone else walk. Let T-Jones, Dmo, and Capela develope. Acquire a point guard by any means necessary. Profit.

If we let Josh walk, who's going to guard the elite 4s? Did T.Jones make enough of the leap to start & guard your Aldridges, Dirks, etcs of the world in a full time mins capacity? We had been searching and complaining about for that for a while after that series. I don't know what's feasible to sign Josh at, but defense at the 4 has to be considered.
