Houston Rockets Thread - Preseason vs Spurs (Friday)

Good win. Should've finished them off before, but at least too much energy wasn't expended. Capela looked very good (including hitting his 1st 2 FTs :wow: :wow: ), and in general doing all the things you need a backup center to do. Brewer exploded again, Harden was Harden, Ariza played good D, along with Josh Smith being a spark. These playoff scenarios are crazy, and it's just so much stuff, that I'm not caring who we even face  (within reason)

wish we still had Whiteside

just shows Morey/Mchale that we need to have patience in young guys/rookies sometimes because that's how they get confidence…For instance, Capela, NJ, KJ, need to get more minutes because these guys can ball. They just need some minutes and some confidence from the coach

Pick and roll with prigs Capela opened up a million wide open 3a because teams have to respect Capela rolling to the rim.

We need to root for Indiana to beat Memphis and New Orleans to beat San Antonio, on top of us beating Utah on Wednesday. That scenario makes us to 2 seed, and most importantly makes San Antonio the five seed.

I got us probably finishing 5th and playing portland. Taking that series and moving on to the 2nd round

Also why does it seem like every time I see the 76ers scoreboard Covington is dropping 20+

We didnt really have minutes for him but still

pelicans playing for their playoff lives against the spurs on wednesday. spurs record on the road is a pedestrian 22-18 and the pelicans are 27-13 at home so there's hope.

grizzlies/pacers could easily go either way. pacers have been on a roll lately and are also going to need the game to make the playoffs so both teams should be playing all out.

the game against the jazz isn't going to be an easy one at all for us either. they're 19-9 since the all star break and have had the best defense in the league during that span. they also blew us out just over a month ago.

i wouldn't mind playing the blazers at all...especially with all their injuries right now, but the most ideal situation would be to get #2 and face the mavs. i'm confident we can beat them and if we could force the spurs down to the 5 seed with a loss against the pelicans, they would have to face the warriors in round 2 instead of us.

going to be an exciting final two days.

I agree...but I am still having nightmares of watching LaMarcus Aldridge play like MJ against the Rockets last year in the playoffs :x

Dude feasted on Dwight and anybody else checking him. Rockets are a lot better team this year and the Blazers are pretty beat up, so it's definitely a winnable series.

Portland please

With all their injuries, I think we'll come out on top..Besides, Harden will go off in that series..

Can't lie, I'm lowkey tired of all the Houston seeding talk I hear. Not specifically here, but from many Houston fans. Seems like folks are yearning to avoid team and I'm not really interested in any of that  I can only imply this mindset is in line with being content with solely getting out of the first round. |I

I want to play a healthy Portland to see if we actually got better. or anybody that's a potential contender. Chase greatness or bust. Don't want any asterisks.

the difference in pick is maybe 4 i think. if it's that deep, 4 picks won't kill us.

dallas or portland with an outside shot at playing the spurs. what do yall think?

we won't know if we got better because our team isn't even healthy..Dmo is out, Bev is out, Howard is still adjusting

I'd say you're minimizing the tiers of the draft.

Draft is deep, but there are certainly tiers. Being in the mid teens range gives you higher probability for a steal imo.

+ Josh Smith, + Brewer,

and yea, Portland isn't healthy either.

still not mutually exclusive to the sentiment of wanting to play the best.

No matter the seeding the Rockets will more than likely have to go through San Antonio, GSW or both to get to the finals. Even if the Rockets somehow avoid both those teams and get to the finals, there would be no asteriks for any team coming out of the West winning a title this year. The Conference was downright brutal. The Rockets would be locked in at #2 in the East and be the favorite to at least get to the conference finals

bro, you said you can only imply this mindset is in line with being content with solely getting out of the first round. I'm sure no one in here is content with just getting out of the first round…All of us rockets fans in here want that championship, and to be honest, the team still has to go through SAS/GSW, so no asterisks if we somehow end up on top

I don't care if we win a first round series or not, it's finals our bust.

Why the **** would we be content with only getting out of the first round?

I personally feel like this year we are very unlucky we have DMO and Bev hurt but we have a potential lottery pick Dwight still looks pretty good and we've shown we can rest him and still win games we could have a good off season and hopefully make the "leap" The next year the homer in me thinks we can make the finals but my head is telling me you can't have the JET as your starting PG And have Joey Dorsey in your roster if you wanna make the finals.

 I did say, not specifically in here.

But I'm hearing the notion that if SA plays Dallas, folks are hoping they can give them a full series like last year and potentially knock them off.
Yall think if SA plays 7 games they aren't gonna be rested enough to compete with us at an elite level?
I guess I'm confused on why there's the granularity of the seeding being discussed with the strong sentiment that we want to avoid the Spurs.

Maybe yall can shed some light and help me figure out what I'm missing. DMO, Bev, whoever will be hurt against whoever we play. Literally shouldnt matter is the point I'm making here.

because baby steps. we've won 1 playoff series in 17 years. finals or bust sounds good in theory. it's not realistic.

We haven't had this level of talent in forever though. We were sulking in mediocrity for those 17 years, trading away all young talent that we could build around.

I honestly don't think anybody would be content with obtaining James Harden and then paying Dwight 20+ mil...only to take baby steps.

If you said that at the time we were looking to obtain Dwight, I might have said go another direction

I'd be sick at another 1st round exit, regardless of injuries and how deep and unpredictable the West is. i always bring up the Texans in here, but there's such a parallel more often than not. Sometimes you have to dig deep and win with the guys you have instead of worrying about injuries and who else is out there. I feel like this team can still go far, but to do that at this point, the stars have to play like stars and everybody else have to play levels above that.

proud of this team man, I'm sure all of us here are…With all the injuries, these so-called "experts" predicting we'd be 8th seed, our rockets have done an amazing job this season, especially Harden…We're blessed to have him on this team. Pair him with a healthy Dwight and our supporting cast, we can def. contend
