Kings' talks with @CoachKarl22 picked up once Vivek Ranadive feared he'd lose his top choice to Orlando, per source.

So let me get this straight: Vivek could have hired Karl at any point since firing Malone (could have even replaced Malone with Karl), but sat on it...why, exactly? Punting on this season and waiting for the off-season to make a move? Everyone knows Karl is on the short list of mid-season coaching replacements, so if you're considering it at any point, you might as well do it before another team comes along.
 
PDA and Vivek probably wanted that top 10 protected pick instead of being on the outskirts and losing it.

Karl's personal past with a number of influential members in and around the Kings organization remains relevant as well, as he previously coached Kings advisor Chris Mullin and has history with the two agents who represent franchise centerpiece DeMarcus Cousins as well. Cousins' day-to-day agent, Jarrin Akana, worked with Karl in Denver and was re-assigned from assistant coach to scout when Karl took over for coach Jeff Bzdelik in 2005. Dan Fegan, Cousins' lead agent, represented Karl's son, Coby, as a player for years before he was eventually replaced. That circle, by all accounts, has been against the notion of adding Karl.

To that end, D'Alessandro's ability to change their minds is key here as well. While it appears D'Alessandro is endorsing Karl with or without the support of his team's top player or his representatives, he would prefer to have agreement on that front if Ranadive ultimately approves the hiring. There is some concern within the organization, however, that hiring Karl could create substantive conflict going forward when it comes to Cousins.

I can't believe its come to me secretly rooting for my teams to fail just so ownership looks bad. Should I be ashamed? Because I don't feel that way.

i said that the day after Malone is fired. that i wanted this to blow up in their stupid arrogant faces.  

finally it might have gone so bad that they are forced to get their heads out of their *****.

I'm sure he was already rethinking that when the kings decided to drag their feet for 2 months only to jump back into talks with him once he was campaigning to the magics that he's ready to coach again :lol:
