How is Stones?? Never been and I don't really try to venture out to Antelope much except to pick up Popeyes or Extreme Hummus

It's really nice man. Sammys (restaurant) is pretty good. Didn't really want to bother him too much. Just asked how the offseason was going. I knew prior he went to capital a lot. After I acknowledged that he said he lived in DT And that he never been out to stones.

It's a good sign I would say. Kings should be ready to match a good amount of offer sheets. Kid has a bright future

While it appears Kings are set to hire Dave Joerger as new head coach, GM Vlade Divac just said Joerger one of 3 finalists. Resolution soon.

When you talk to people close to Vlade, he doesn't have an itchy trigger finger and his top choice is actually Messina. He's inclined to wait to see what happens with Terry Stotts & Dwane Casey. That's not a slam dunk at all.

Memphis is in a position where dominoes have to fall. They just can't go name their guy. I'm not convinced they have someone waiting to be signed today.

Best fit for what the Grizzlies have personnel wise?

I know everyone likes Vogel but not a strong personality. Dave on steroids. Not a leader of men. You gotta be able to confront. Lionel battled with Zach. Coaching Marc wasn't a walk in the park. Tony was Tony. ... They need a stronger personality. Marc is the future. Anyone can coach Mike Conley. He's the guy you want to meet your daughter. They'll have more younger guys on the roster. It's about holding everyone accountable & confronting & discipline. ... Grizzlies are about to go a different direction. Joerger inherited a team of all-stars. I'll say what the fans want to hear: Get over yourselves and put the band back together. (Lionel Hollins) Brooklyn already paid his moving expenses.

 Joerger is replaceable: How good was Dave Joerger? Very good, but in a way that’s probably easy to overstate.

Joerger is a really talented coach, as the Grizzlies acknowledged even while firing him, but the notion of what he and the team accomplished in the face of adversity this season -- no team had ever made the playoffs while fielding 28 players in a season! -- took on a life beyond the factual. It made for a good story. So did Joerger’s teary final presser. We like to print the legends. Rather than be accused of historical revisionism in the wake of Joerger’s firing, I’ll just repeat what I wrote in the immediate aftermath of the team’s playoff exit:

But the highlights masked an encroaching reality: This team was bad. It couldn’t help but be bad. And so, once Conley went down for good, the Grizzlies finished 5-19, including the playoffs, losing on average by more than 10 points a night, by 22 in the postseason. They competed at a level commensurate with their dire roster predicament: Barely, rarely. They held onto that playoff spot by building up a cushion when times were better and by the grace of an unusually weak middle of the conference.

Life gave them lemons. They made lemon juice. There was really nothing else they could do. At some point, the season ceased being about triumph or surprise and just became about survival, about maintaining your dignity while pounding a rock that may never break. It’s like that sometimes. Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life.

 

This is no insult or criticism, not at all. It’s just reality. There was nothing extraordinary about what the Grizzlies accomplished last season, even if the particular details of the adversity were extraordinary. They a were good team that got demolished by injuries, and that demolition fed a sensible decision to reorient the roster for the summer rather than the spring. Their only good fortune was that the damage happened late enough in the season to preserve a playoff spot anyway.

 The Grizzlies are casting a wide net but should consider going bigger: Frank Vogel, who had established himself as arguably one of the league’s better coaches in his stewardship over the Pacers, has emerged as an obvious candidate, bolstered by his prior relationship with Chris Wallace when both were part of the Boston Celtics franchise.

Beyond Vogel, there are mixed messages. Ron Tillery suggests a preference for a veteran coach, mentioning names such as Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson. Other reports have mentioned current NBA assistants and college coaches as potential candidate types. So, basically, anyone. And that’s what I’m hearing: That the team doesn’t have a preference for the type of coaching background.

The one thing that does seem clear is that they only want to hire a coach, not a coach who would also have a formalized front office role, which would seem to make Van Gundy, in particular, an unlikely candidate. And I’m not sure the team should be so quick to close off that kind of set-up.

 The stakes are very high: This summer, perhaps more than any in recent memory, sets a course. There’s a coach to hire. A front office to ratify or shake up. A star incumbent player to court. And after years of poor drafting and development across different owners, front office configurations and coaches, pressure on free agency for a franchise that’s only ever acquired one outside free agent who commanded more than a mid-level salary: Darko Milicic.

The team has a chance to maintain or even, with a mix of good decisions and good fortune, even improve its recent standing. But the potential for a sharp, painful decline is very real and too little acknowledged.

The biggest danger here isn’t about coaching. Again, Joerger is a good coach who is very replaceable. What do players -- and by this I mean Mike Conley and Marc Gasol -- think about what’s going on? If Joerger’s post-season comments proved to be a real hint, can we fully dismiss the same with Conley, who talked about needing convincing, or Gasol, who spoke perhaps too pointedly in suggesting his brother, Pau, join the Spurs because that’s an organization that does things the right way?

What if Conley and/or Gasol have soured on the franchise’s trajectory in ways the organization won’t acknowledge or, worse, haven’t recognized?
