NFL Week 5 In Review...

I thought Revis was great on Sunday night. The best I've seen since his injury. He was all over AJ.

The rumors were that Woody didn't want Revis back because of all the BS. There was another roomer that Revis was using the Jets just to raise the contract and to stick it to the Jets.

If I had a guess, I would go with Woody didn't want him back.

Could've had dude back on a reasonable 1 year deal after trading him away the previous season for a 1st and 3rd. They drop the ball, stay $20M under the cap, and now they're in this mess.

Revis wouldn't have fixed all their issues, but he plugs up a huge hole and you keep him away from a division rival.

Sure but Revis is on a big one year deal and hasn't exactly been lighting it up for the Pats.  It's not like this team is about to contend—they need to be looking at long term solutions.  

There are lots of criticisms to be leveled but not signing a bunch of random FAs isn't the right one.  Should they have done what the Bucs did?  The Raiders?  How did that work out?  They should have signed Byrd like New Orleans?  Revis like the Pats?  What have those moves done so far?  They were supposed to be one of the worst teams in football last year...  That roster has crazy holes that will take time to fill.

Problem is the local media HATES the Jets and the Jets fans side with the media, so they'll never have the time to build it the right way.

Darrelle's first few weeks were okay by his standards. Not bad, not great. A lot of that had to do with how Bill was using him and adjusting to the new rules (something that hasn't got much attention with a few of the league's top corners looking human). They finally turned him loose this past Sunday and he looked like old Revis. DSA already went into it so I won't go further.

I agree with your overall vision, but IMO it doesn't apply in this specific case with the Jets/Revis. They're familiar with each other and Rex plays to Revis' strengths and vice versa. I didn't have an issue with the Jets wanting to build from last year's 8-8 team with a coach on the final year of his deal. I assumed they wanted to at least make the playoffs and see what happens from there. They just went about it the wrong way. No sense of direction and leaving $20M on the table with a poor secondary and their second year QB running for his life every Sunday. A 1 year deal for Revis at $12M is very reasonable. It's not going to tie up your cap and you leave the Patriots extremely weak at an important position.

Remember, Bill went out and got Revis only after they lost Talib.

And I don't see Ryan succeeding as a head coach.  DC yes, hell yes.  But he would have to make major changes in his approach to win a Super Bowl as a head coach.

I wouldn't fire the GM. Their approach was terrible which = confusing *** offseason. It's time to map out a plan after this year.

I think Rex was left out to dry by a cheap owner and a GM that didn't hire him, but I'm with you on needing to make significant changes in his next stop.

It's crazy how Bill sometimes trusts his college coach butt buddies over people in his own front office or using the conventional approach. Did you hear on F&M how he has a history of "going rogue" in drafts?  No wonder we end up with craptastic picks. This ******* guy.

To his credit, he is a master at adjusting and changing identity on a week to week basis so he usually gets it right (unlike Schiano who stubbornly refused to cater to his best chess piece).

nothing mind blowing if he's thinking for fantasy. but his role should continue to grow. if i were the OC, i'd have him lining up everywhere. inline, wide, slot, backfield. the lazy comparison is AH81, and while i won't go there, i would use him in a similar fashion. by mid season, he should be brady's third option after gronk and edelman. after those two, brady will look to him and lafell. he'll be key for NE to make noise this year though.

-Bucs: they made the biggest splash in FA, as they always do.  The team is a disaster

We can look at past years like when the Bucs signed Goldson (terrible signing), Nicks, and Davin Joseph both of whom are no longer on the team, and were a bad team that had to rebuilt again two years later.  Goes on and on.

definitely agree. with the exception of maybe the broncos, teams that have been perennial playoff teams have built their teams around solid drafts rather than signing expensive free agents. raiders and bucs are prime examples this season of how FA doesn't improve much

It's crazy how bad that franchise has been in a league where we see teams all the time go from bad to good but the Raiders stay stuck at the bottom.
