lol I just don't like the way people forget how good some older "washed up" players were... sports media just brainwashes everyone. it's stupid.

Same here. Once your disliked in the media these days, it diminishes you're acconplishment. And everyone is so eager to prop up the new flavor before they've accomplished much.

How good older "washed up" players were?

Dude was damn near an MVP candidate THIS season before the injuries flared up again. What are you talking about "washed up"? Why even give your time to stuff like that?
MVP candidate? come on dude.

This dude Melo is really going to go enjoy the All Star game and play with his buddies then quit on his team the day after...

The knee is fine for playing with your super star friends in a meaningless exhibition, but the knee is too hurt to play out the games youre payed 120 million dollars to play.

Great message.
That was the plan since the season started. Everyone knew. 99.9% of them won't even be here next year.

It's comical how foreign players are seen as more "skilled" than US players at the development level.
wouldn't say more skilled, but they have been drilled with team fundamentals that a lot of american players lack heading into the nba. different systems in europe (club teams) vs high school & ncaa here

yeah this was the plan all along and while he does kind of have to represent the city hosting the event, it is a little selfish to shut it down immediately after.

he took a spot that an able bodied player could've used. he doesn't deserve to be an all star this year.

he isn't quitting on the knicks though. that's ridiculous to say. he really should've shut it down a few weeks ago

Thing is, the top players here get drilled with that here too. You have NBPA top 100 hundred camp where it's all fundamental taught from NBA guys. The LeBron/Cp3 Camps,Team USA etc.! And a whole lot of other camps and stuff that are dedicated to fundamentals.

Only at the HS level fundamentals may not be taught as much due to time constraints...but now a days we have basketball academies that double as schools. Oak Hill, Findlay, Monterverde, etc. Fundamentals are tought there. Truth be told, American players pick up the fundamentals at a faster pace and earlier than Foreign players so it's natural to us where as being more learned to foreign players.

There's this stigma that we can't shoot, but the best shooters in the League are american, best passers etc etc.

Yeah, my issue isn't with him shutting it down for the Knicks, but playing in the all-star game. I understand that there should be some Knick presence during the weekend, but he could still be around as an "ambassador" without participating in the game.

I blame the Knicks management for this. Melo has needed knee surgery for months. He should've been shut down a while ago, but since the Knicks are the Knicks and screw up everything, it's been allowed to linger for this long. It shouldn't have gotten to the point that his surgery was put on hold for the ASG but at this point might as well play his 5 minutes and wave to the fans or whatever, like he said, and then have the surgery and rehab in time for offseason workouts. It doesn't make sense for your franchise player who needs knee surgery to be hobbling around on a 20-win team.
