People still think PER it's some complex advanced stat, it's really a less stupid stat.

What's funny is when someone brings up stats from box score and then will say PER is meaningless or "overvalued".

I love you, NT.

Rondos ball dominance & lack of shooting
... is a bad fit for what rick Carlisle wants to do

even kidd transitioned into a decent spot up 3 pt shooter once he was there.. but has Carlisle ever had a ball dominant PG with any of his teams?

You guys really don't see it as a no-brainer to trade for Rondo? I look at the Mavs roster and I don't even know what Ainge would be particularly interested in.

I would say there are questions about whether you want a PG who can't shoot 3's on that team, the offence would get worse probably, but would the defense improve enough to make you a contender?

Very few PG's have that kind of defensive impact.

I wouldn't say it's a no brainier.

Carlisle is a smart dude, tho, I'm sure he can figure it out.

I just don't see how Rondo fits there w/ his lack of shooting.

I agree.. but I'm not really sure Carlisle would want rondo, as I mention above..

but purely from the standpoint of what they would be giving up.. the mavs should do it in a heartbeat.. rondo is worth more than wright and whatever player they would get late in the draft

I'm sure Carlisle would find a way to make it work.. but if they don't have to give up any of their main guys, then they should do it

Its not a no brainer

The stats tell me that Barea and Devin Harris are more productive overall than Rondo

The organization would have to give up the 6th most productive player in the NBA to get Rondo

The Mavs have the number 1 offence that's scoring at a historically efficient pace, the defence is 22nd and we all know that isn't championship caliber.

Can adding Rondo get you into the top 10 d rankings? That's really the question.

All I know is that Rondo will be assist whoring so hard in Dallas,

Dude will have weapons everywhere.

Which is probably a good thing considering his %'s this year, :x

Jameer - 32
D.Harris - 31
JJ Barea - 30
Rondo - 28

Nelson has shot 8 free throws this year, Rondo is shooting 33% from the line. Even if Nelson is 7/8 at the FT line, he's still not giving you much there like Rondo out of infrequency. I don't trust Nelson's durability or that he can keep up his near 37% shooting from deep based on his last two seasons.

Harris shooting 41.2% is way above the mean... come on. Barea? Stop. Just stop.

This is a trade you make for the now and later. Stop overthinking it because the 'assets' you want to hold onto have plenty of numbers that tell us they'll regress back to the mean. And you take the best and youngest player in the trade, which is Rondo. When Dirk's done, a big name or two can come along and join an age 30 Rondo... right now the best/youngest player is Parsons.

In-built would be the premise that Rondo has been underperforming the last two seasons and would step back up to an elite level in Dallas (esp. defensively).

Which isn't a bad gamble considering the effect the organization has had on many player's careers.

The offense will not fall off considerably WITH Rondo just because it means less of Barea-Nelson-Harris. Rondo by himself is another element that will open up things that can be sustained. And as we know the defense will be helped out.

Carlisle is one of the best coaches in the league he will make it work.

Mavs achilles heel is perimeter defense right now and rondo would do that. Mavs gotta pull the trigger.

Heard ainge wants d mo from Houston which is preventing them from pulling the trigger.

yeah but Brandan Wright and Tyson sucking the defense in on thos hard rolls down the middle is big part of why there offence is so good.

If you help they have so many shooters, if you don't it's a lob pass for a dunk. don't discount that. I think It would have a big effexct on that second unit o,

D mo have it all that would be a dumb move by houston

The numbers say you would be trading the 5th most productive player in the NBA for the 151st all while decreasing playing time for 56th most productive player in the NBA all while you also have another point guard who's more productive than Rondo

all this Rondo talk to Dallas is giving me a hard-on....

please make this deal happen basketball gawds

Im not saying that I know whether they should or shouldn't trade for rondo, but to characterize it as a no brainier would be a mistake.

Many people including me thought trading for Klay Thompson was a no brainier, and clearly wasn't for GSW management, and they are reaping the benefits now.

Im getting to the point where I think NBA defenses are schematically too sophisticated to beaten by teams without cohesive offensive chemistry.

At this point if you are running a very good team you should really have the attitude, unless we are making a CLEAR and SIGNIFICANT upgrade it's not worth it to sacrifice continuity/chemistry.

You can plug guys in on D, don't think you can do it on O anymore.
