NT famb... I'm getting a puppy this weekend!

I'm hype as a muh... Gonna let my main name him (i told her she can name the dog if i get to name the kids )

Anyways, I need some help...

Dude doesnt have ANY papers on the puppy, and it hasnt had any shots. It's a small small dog... one of them toy type... lapdog.

I'll post pictures in a minute.

He wants $250 for it, but I'm thinking about trying to haggle with him

How bad is it copping a dog w/ no papers?

also, can yall give me some tips on how to raise the young'n? I hear its like a baby.

I'm lowkey hype right now, famb...

:pimp: :pimp:

but i'm not stupid... If i dont need to cop b/c the lack of papers, I'll pass like Steve Nash. He said the parents have been super healthy their whole lives and hadnt had any issues w/ them.

EDIT1: just got off the phone w/ ol' buddy...

He's a maltese and shi tzu mixed...

here's an example of what other litters looked liked.

i looked into rescuing a dog but they were all too big for my spot. Plus, this dog will eventually be my momb's, so i had to be aware of what she wanted as well.

Lack of papers seems sketch. But then again, you could just bring him into a vet to get him taken care of.

You should look into rescuing a dog from the shelter. That feeling when you know you saved that lil mans life :pimp:

this

I saved a cat from the street walking him from a bar and I was originally gonna give him to another home but couldn't do it when I saw how appreciative he was

Papers aren't that important unless you care about it's lineage. If it's a mutt it doesn't matter at all. I would definitely ask the owner to take it to the vet for an exam to make sure it's not sick or have worms.

How old is it?

A puppy is exactly like a baby. It cries when lonely and/or hungry. Doesn't like to be left alone for long periods of time. Potty training can be the most stressful but some breeds are easier than others. My Scottish terrier was trained in one week. Never had a slip up since (except when she gets really excited). On the other hand my Portuguese Water Dog took 2 MONTHS to train properly.

Good luck & be patient!

I feel like once you get a pet, your desire for material things (like sneakers) diminishes.

I dogsat this Pomeranian this summer and it was the best couple months of my life 100%. NOTHING better than coming home and your mans is waiting for you at the door with a smile on his face.

Enjoy the dog Fontaine, you're in for the time of your life :pimp:

Only by association. :nerd:

Enjoy the dog Fontaine. You'll definitely want to find out as much as you can about the breed. If he claims its purebred, you gotta have papers to verify. If not, just knowing what the dog is mixed with can help with training and long term care.

$250 is way too high to pay for a mutt though. $200, maybe $150.

Last summer I wanted to rescue a street cat. He was so friendly & clean which made me think he might have been a stray (no tags though).

I let him stay the night but the parents were having none of that :frown:.

When I move next year, I'm going to adopt something.

I want a french bulldog so bad. Ive only had chocolatw labs so the size is way off. But french bulldogs are over 2 g's. Im lookin for one in someones front yard to steal.

Ask him if he'd trade for a pair of foambs famb

Shi Tzu's are the best dogs personality wise.  My mom has 2.  Super laid back.  My sister has a maltese and he is very well behaved.  Great choice OP.

Just make sure you train him early.

Papers mean nothing. They are only necessary if you are going to breed the dog or if you actually care that they are fully bred as whatever type of dog the seller says it is.

Few tips...

Puppy pads are crucial to the house-training process. You don't want little dude peeing all over anything and everything. They will associate that square piece of material and the color/smell of it as the place to pee. Also, crate training is my most important piece of advice. Get a crate for your dog and keep him in there when you aren't home. Most dogs won't pee where they sleep, so he'll hold his pee until he's let out. It makes house-training extremely easy.

Oh, and DO NOT BUY CRAPPY FOOD! If you can buy it at your local supermarket or Target/Walmart, it's crap...don't buy it. You want grain-free/wheat-free/corn-free food. Dogs cant digest any of that stuff and it just makes them poop more. Yea, grain free food is a little more, but it's worth it. Especially with a dog as small as yours, it's not like you are going to have to buy tons of food anyway.

Avoid raw hide. It's not good. They often get stuck in their throat/stomach and cause pooping issues.

Neuter him.

Don't bring home the puppy too early. I'm taking care of my uncle's pup right now since he's remodeling his place or something.

He took the puppy home too early and she was way too small, less than 1.5 lbs pomeranian. After two nights she had a seizure due to low blood sugar and had to go to the vet.

Buy a variety of toys too. Puppies love to chew and if you have some toys around it'll keep them occupied. Also put away all your shoes b/c of this.

Just know, dogs..especially puppies require a lottttt of attention and time..so make sure yall got time for Lil man's..these little Bastards have to go out every hour damb near..cheer like you just won the lotto anytime they go potty outside. Once they're house trained :pimp:

I have a Shih Tzu, well my Mom does now, but I had one for years and years.

I know yours is a mix, but they're still cool dogs. Shih Tzu's can be stubborn, but they have tons of personality. I love my dog.

First hand experience, make as much time for the puppy as you can in the beginning. Not saying you need to take 2 weeks off work or anything  but you won't be able to leave the dog alone all day, spend 5 minutes with it, then head right out for the night. They'll need more attention and care in the beginning. It might be frustrating here and there, but it's really a lot like a baby... be patient and it'll be worth it.

Some advice
- Puppy pads just in case.
- If you think it might need to go outside and pee/poop, then take him outside  better safe than sorry
- We crate trained ours while he was young, which helped prevent peeing everywhere, chewing on things, etc.
- Buy a ton of toys
- Spend the money on quality food. It's not just some BS, when we switched our dog to a raw/natural diet, it was a huge improvement in his health.
- Be careful about what you feed him when it comes to human food, certain things are awful for dogs. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1659&aid=1030
- Decide what you want the boundaries to be early on. If you don't ever want him on the couch or want him begging for food or whatever, then make sure you're strict about training early on.
- Puppy proof your place... don't leave shoes, valuables, anything you want to keep from being chewed on or peed on within his reach. My Shih Tzu was never one to chew on shoes or pee on beds or anything  but you never know and better safe than sorry. The one random thing he did was chew on the wooden banisters even though he had like 9 chew toys.

Don't worry about papers, but try to see if he'll go down on price considering you'll have to pay for the shots and getting him checked out.

A lot of places have really strict restrictions on breeds and sizes.

Most apartments/condos won't allow certain breeds, but mine is even more strict about it. They won't even allow "large" dogs like a lab or golden retriever, so the only options are small or medium sized dogs.

Small dogs might also be easier. They'll tear up the house less, they'll need less exercise and walks, then eat less, be cheaper, etc.

Boxers are a grip anywhere, Cold. Truth be told, you can often come up on gems at the pet shelter. Dudes drop all kinda of dough on dogs and then realize that you can't just throw money at them and give them up or abandon them.
