Getting a Puppy this weekend, NTFAMB.. Tips, Tricks, and Pointers (SOME PICS

been looking for a akc boxer for a WHILE but dudes want limbs for them in Illinois

edit just read the op dont get no toy dog Ricky...

Boxers are a grip anywhere, Cold. Truth be told, you can often come up on gems at the pet shelter. Dudes drop all kinda of dough on dogs and then realize that you can't just throw money at them and give them up or abandon them.
doesnt help im picky cuz i really want a baby to grow with my baby girls  but $700 nah

Best way to potty train a new a new puppy is

Get a square of cardboard and take him out to do his business

When he does go rub the cardboard where he does it. Not a lot just enough to get his scent on it

Leave it outside in the yard and take him immediately to the same spot for the next time

Make sure he continually does it in the same spot and if he doesn't kennel him

After a short while he will understand what you want. Trained all of my dog this way and it has never taken more than a week.

this dude is the epitome of a simp.  Dude just copped a dog out the blue, on a whim, to try and increase his acquisition of 'yams.'

I sincerely hope your new pooch dips out on you early in the game and a white middle-classed family w/ two children, who live in a single-family home w/in a mile of you, find him, put up flyers you never see, and ultimately adopt and keep the dog for life.

That said, congrats on da new pick up B, enjoy. Dogs>>>>>>>>

1. Don't need a dog to get yambs
2. Not sure you know what simp means
3. I live downtown... So if I lose it, some hipster or young professional or retired couple or a gay couple will find it

You gotta be one stupid person to not know where the dog peed or popped

It's a smaller dog who cares

Let that man live

I have two shih tzus an Aussie and a toy aussie

Never once have I had to find there poop and they all were easy to train

Why yall spazzed on homie cuz got a soft dog?

Damn, son...

...I have a pitt...that woulda definitely had been a better option. But to each their own.

TIME.

It's tough because EVERYTHING literally revolves around walking my boy.
He gets 3 walks, 20-25 minutes each (morning, afternoon, and at night). Usually every 4-5 hours, anything more than 7 hours I worry.

How is that inconvenient? Because I try to get home asap to let him out, etc etc. This interferes with plans, especially dinner/afternoon.

My guy is 4 years old, but I still worry...A puppy? Boy, cover your room with pee-pads. I'd like to offer the suggestion of adoption, check out shelters, sometimes they have puppies and you're saving a dog.

Hope that helps. For the record, I have a dachshund.

He's already said he can't do a big dog because of his place, plus it's going to his mom eventually.

And besides, nothing against ricky, but I wouldn't suggest a pit for someone who hasn't trained or raised a dog before. It's a lot more responsibility and commitment than a Shih Tzu mix.

good luck having any free time for the next 6 months..

but srs having a pup and watching it grow up is an amazing experience and if you train it right you will have a best friend for life (or however long the dog ends up living)

you're better off with that kind of dog if you live in the city, if you got a bigger more active dog you probably wouldnt have the time to constantly keep it entertained

first, good choice on the breed. small dogs are the way to go. less and smaller pee/poop to clean up. less food you have to buy. smaller carriers, playpens, etc. and it's just so convenient to be able to carry them around, e.g., if you dont want them to be in the bedroom, want to get them into the car, stuff like that.

second, i got a puppy a few months ago and he was about 8 weeks old. he cried at night for the first week because i slept in another room and just left him in his (big) play pen. i found that just leaving him alone and shushing him whenever he cried in front of me worked well. he stopped crying at night in just 1 week and stopped crying almost completely shortly after that.

third, never get super angry or even a little violent with them. i read if you do that, there's a better chance they'll grow up to be mean, aggressive, and violent dogs. just remember that they're like babies and won't listen most of the time. you gotta be patient with them. a little sternness goes a long way.

fourth, after he/she gets all his shots, make sure you introduce him/her to a lot of people and lot of dogs. making sure puppies learn how to be social early on is really important in making sure they grow up to be nice dogs that are easy to deal with, take places, have around your friends/family.

fifth, papers don't matter. just take him to the vet. i go to the vet inside petsmart (banfield) because it's convenient, has good pricing, and the vets/nurses are nice.
