Until kevin durant signs long term with a team that isn't the lakers I'm not maxing out anybody to play the 3

It would be foolish to draft with all 4 picks. Or even 3 (I don't think we end up with the Clippers pick)

There isn't a such thing as having too many picks, but there is a such thing as making too many draft picks in a short period of time.

Why? Because you are actually going to stunt someone's growth because you'll have start slotting guys into spots that they can't grow at all.

Assume that you have 10 rotation spots..

Just say 6 guys already on the roster that we should want to/will keep the next couple of years... Randle, Davis, Clarkson, Kelly, Black, Swaggy P.

Then 4 picks this draft.. That's 10 guys. If it's only 3, that's 9 guys.

Not even counting any Free Agents this year and next... I'm willing to bet we sign three starters, and a backup in the next 2 offseasons.

Currently we'd have the 4th - 27th - 34th - 52nd. I don't think we end up with the Clippers pick (only get it if it's 51-55, and with Blake missing significant time, I doubt they stay where they are).

Rockets missing Dwight for another 6 weeks. They are only 3-1/2 games in front of Cleveland who would be 19th if the draft was tonight. They won't get passed by all those teams, but probably 6 of 8 (Raptors, Blazers, Spurs, Wizards, Bulls, Cavs). Would put us at 21st.

21st & 34th = $2.141mil, if you add on the Clippers pick if we keep it, it'll be $2.7mil

If we could trade up to 16th with the 21st & 34th.. It's $1.52mil

Pretty much no matter what, if we use all of the picks, we can guarantee 2 of the 4 will be wasted. So might as well try to get everything out of that second pick.

Any of those picks could be better than Nick Young.

And very likely you could upgrade over Kelly.

Bottom line is talent is needed. 1-2-3 or 4 picks, don't matter. Get the best 12 you can get. Find a coach that can use them properly.

(Meaning get rid of Byron's worthless ***).

Doesn't matter.

Nick is here at least until his final year of his contract.

Byron isn't going anywhere unless it really goes off the rails  I can only imagine the implosion that will look like

You could upgrade over Clarkson too, butttttttttttttttttttttttttt regardless somebody's growth gets stunted. Whether it is someone who leapfrogs over another guy. Which is unlikely. Especially out of that Clippers or our 2nd.

Also something I didn't include in my last post which I was about to. Sacrificing the 2 or 3 picks to move up, gives us more options. I.e. guy slips some spots from late lottery in mock drafts to out of the lottery. Or a guy we like at 22, but not sure he'll make it to us. Similar to why you wanted us to be 4th worst last year instead of 6th. I think it worked out anyway getting Randle, but it's the same argument.

I already said I'd do a 22-23 + 33 for 15-16 type move up, but, if no one wants to deal with us, I won't be upset making 4 picks.

Worst case, make one a Euro and stash him.

And the point on Nick was he could become Luke Walton.

Upgrade talent, make Nick the 12th man, glue his *** to the bench. We all benefit from that.

Well the not being able to trade is key of course. I'm just assuming we could. Whether we can on draft night? Who knows.

Tank Watch 2/10
Kings vs Bulls...Boogie out to destroy before George Karl comes. Go Kings.
Pistons vs Hornets...May the best team win.

Rockets vs Suns...Suns try to recover from another heartbreaking loss. Go Suns.

Are the Nuggets so fractured that they'll lose to this Lakers team twice in the same season?

@HerringWSJ Melo, on if hes close to shutting it down for season: "Im not getting that pop or that bounce [anymore]. So Im getting close to that point."
I didn't expect to pass the Knicks, but still. |I

On that note;

Melo - Knee
Howard - Knee

Phew.

What the hell is wrong w/ someone saying no to KLove but wanting to max out Kawhi?

I understand scoffing at someone wanting to max out Dray, but Kawhi?

'Splain. What's your issue there, C CP1708 ?

I love Kawhi, make no mistake, but there is precisely ZERO evidence that he is a franchise player worth the max outside of the protected walls of San Antonio.

Projected worth, sure.

Likely worthy? Maybe.

But to just dismiss Kevin freaking Love, and then hype Kawhi with ease (on top of Draymond) is just :smh:

Kevin love has never ever made the playoffs in a league where more then half of the teams make the playoffs.

Kevin Love has never sniffed the playoffs, wasn't in the race.

Kobe with smush and Kwame made the playoffs.

Young durant in 2008 made the playoffs in a tough west.

but Kevin Love has never even gotten close. He's not a franchise guy. He can be a piece, sure, but Kevin Love is a below average defender, and doesn't play out of the post well really either. He's a stretch four who put up great numbers on a bad team. That's really about it.

Bosh> Love

But to say that Kawhi, who is ******* flourishing doesn't deserve the max is asanine.

On the flip side, Kawhi Leonard just won finals MVP, and defended the one of the best players in the league, while Kevin Love is riding the coattails of Lebron to the playoffs.

Agreed... I don't see why all the fan here want empty stats klove.... I'd rather have a lock down defender that shut down lj and is offensively unpolished then klove...klove is soft and plays no d. Being the number one option has never accomplished anything. Pass on dude being on the Lakers....

Look, guys, you can regurgitate the narrative at me about Love/Kawhi all you want. I already know them. Dig deeper.

Put Kawhi in Minnesota and tell me how ******* great he is.

Now put Love in San Antonio, and watch the change.

It isn't Kevin Love's fault his team passed on Steph, Klay, Kawhi, Parsons, Jordan, Lawson etc etc etc.

Kobe drug Smush, etc, but he also had LO and Phil. So let's save the empty stats bs please.

I've dived into the Love playoff talk too often to post about it again.

He has his flaws, but it wasn't all his fault that Minnesota couldn't get into the playoffs.

Whatever, we'll just agree to disagree.

I'd rather have cost controlled rookies who we can develop then an unproven max player to lock up the cap space for years. Ala rondo and love.

Would rather we get a 3 tier guy like jackson or dragic for a lesser cap number then locking up the cap, and by the time we're good Love is old as ****

Cost Controlled Rookies> Unproven max guy.

You can't just plug ppl in and just assume. You going on hypotheticals dude....
The fact of the matter is love is soft and plays no d. That's not a hypothetical or an opinion...

. The opposite is true for kawhi. Neither I want as my number one option period.... But give me the choice of those two on my team and Ill take kawhi...

That's just it, we'll have the cost control kids AND could sign Love, that's the point.

*Note, Love isn't coming here, it's moot anyways, just on principle Laker fans gotta stop begging for Melo, but pass on KLove.
Or praise Nick Young, hate on Love.
Max Draymond or Kawhi, but no to Love.

That **** has got to stop.

Never once did I want Melo or Nick Young.

And will continue to say I don't want Love. Let him rot in Cleveland.

Magic: "Dr. Buss consulted Jerry West... Jim Buss doesn't consult anybody."

Uhm Mitch Kupchak trained by Jerry West. Magic is a dullard.

Magic: "He hasn't once stood up to Lakers nation and said I made a mistake... Mike Brown... Mike D'Antoni"

He fired them both!!

Not to mention everyone from Jim, Mitch, Jeanie to Phil have said Dr. Buss chose Mike D'Antoni

Magic: "Jim Buss blames everyone else."

When?

Magic: "Then he criticizes me."

Again When
