OFFICIAL 2015 LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS OFF-SEASON THREAD (Lance, PP, Josh Smith, Aldrich - pretty nice l

Very good win last night. What I liked most is that we responded well after they caught us late in the 4th. The offense got a little shaky at times and we needed a few big JCrossover shots to bail us out, but the D was there all game. That was the key.

Relatedly, what the hell is up with Hawes' shooting? He's been awful the last few games. He's playing ok otherwise, but hasn't come close to hitting a shot. Yikes.

can't believe Lmarc had 35 through 3 qtrs then only 2 in the 4th.
He was rolling. I think Stotts kept him out too long.

I felt that Doc Rivers did a fantastic job scheming on LMA. The game plan all along was to put DJ on LMA, but he held out on it until mid way through the fourth quarter and that changed the game completely. LMA really struggled getting position and getting his shot off against someone who's as mobile, athletic, and big as DJ. I was calling for DJ to be on LMA the whole game, but I thought Doc putting him on LMA late was awesome stuff.

It was also by necessity since guarding LMA was wearing Blake out. I give Blake some credit. Even though he was getting torched, he was trying on defense. I think that may have been part of why he struggled on offense last night. His offensive production picked up a bit after he did have to guard Aldridge anymore.

Boston has informed Austin Rivers that trade sending him to father Doc Rivers' Clippers will formalize today, league source tells RealGM.
10:41 AM - 15 Jan 2015

:pimp: :pimp:

Three-way trade between LAC, BOS, PHX near, w/Austin Rivers to Clips, Reggie Bullock to Suns, Shavlik Randolph to Cs, per source.

Trade is done. We essentially gave up Reggie Bullock for Austin Rivers. Austin is one of my favorite players so I love it :pimp: :pimp: :pimp: hell yeahhhh

In all serious though, Austin's career to this point has been a train wreck. But even in this season, Austin has been better than Jordan Farmar and has shown the capacity to be a solid playmaker, and gets to the paint at will almost. He's a horrible shooter and still finishes poorly around the rim, but the hope is that he can be a change of pace back up PG that can at least facilitate some type of solid action either for himself or another player in the 2nd unit.

At this point, if he didn't before, Farmar must want to get traded. Who wants to complete with the coach's son for minutes? I've done it. It sucks.

From what I'm hearing....

aside from Rivers...Clips will release Farmar as well.

REALLY HATING GM DOC :smh:

I've heard the same and then will pick up Nate Robinson. I have no problem with letting Farmar go - he's been terrible. But I definitely have very mixed feelings about trading for the coach's son.

Was anybody else as high on Bullock as I was? Solid defender, solid shooter. Imo he would have developed nicely had Doc giving him the opportunity. It will kill me to see him turn into a nice player in PHX but I'll def be rooting for him.

I used to think it couldn't get worse that having Farmar as the backup PG but I think I was just proven wrong. Someone save Doc from himself.

But Austin has been better than Farmar this year, for whatever it's worth.

And I was high on Bullock at the beginning of the season, and even in this thread I was calling for him to start towards the beginning of the season. However he's an inconsistent defender and an inconsistent shooter. He's a 3 and D guy that IMO had plenty of opportunity to stick. He wasn't in the rotation, but it wasn't because Doc wasn't playing him. He was getting burn and looks initially.

Obviously if we're looking for wing and back up PG help you want something better than Austin Rivers, but 1) Austin is an expiring deal 2) He's been better than farmar this year and 3) We don't have many assets to use to trade and get better. We have about 6 guys who other teams would want but we aren't parting with any of those players, so in essence we have no real ways to make significant improvements through trade. We're already near the cap, and tbh Austin Rivers is probably the best we can get at the back up PG position at the moment.

This trade was so stupid on so many levels, even beside the nepotism.

1. Anyway that you look at it, Bullock was the most valuable player in the trade, so why are the Clippers the one giving up the pick?

2. We are right on the hard-cap, so why are we taking on Austin when we have more pressing needs?

3. Our biggest problem is wing depth, so we trade away TWO of them to being in an awful combo guard, the last thing we need.

4. Rivers had his option declined by NO, was put up as a throwaway piece in the trade instead of John Salmons, and was of no interest to BOS, but the Clippers gave up two of their last assets to get him. WTF???

5. Releasing Farmar (if this actually happened) and having his contract guaranteed for next year, when you are hard-capped, is an issue that will come into play next year when filling the roster.

6. Doc refuses to develop and play young players, but the one he acquires and will most definitely play, is one of the worst players in the league.

Honestly, Doc is failing the players, especially CP3 and BG. He is doing them no favors with using the teams' assets to not get better, but instead to get rid of his mistakes. You aren't winning **** in the current NBA with an amateur FO that keeps getting bent over time and time again.

Great win last night tho :pimp:

I've seen you say River's been better than Farmar this season but most of their stats are practically identical except that Rivers is shooting 28% from 3 while Farmar is shooting 36%. This gives us even less shooting off the bench. I hope your right but this has disaster written all over it. Then again, I suppose it was worth a shot considering how awful Farmar had been. I would have been happy with waiting tos ee if Nate would be bought out and try to get him.

^^^ We're getting Nate too, apparently. No idea how it's going to work.

We'll still be able to get Nate. And I'm praying Austin works out, because Farmar just hasn't. It'll be interesting to say the least. Hopefully this doesn't turn out as bad as it looks right now  this is a whole not for Austin Rivers...Austin Rivers man

Dont look now, but the Clippers have had the 8th best defense in the NBA over the past 20 games.

26-13. Love the direction that we are going in. Just have to find a way to solidify that bench man. Have to understand is we don't have enough assets to make plays via trades. All we can do is look to free agency and the D League, because we aren't parting with DJ or Jamal so Austin Rivers, Nate Robinson, those tiers are the best we can do right now.

I get the impression that what Doc is going to want from Austin and/or Nate is to keep up the pace of play when the second unit is in. Farmar appears incapable of doing that. Neither of them has to been real deep threats. They need to put the pressure on the D so that Jamal and Hawes get open looks. And play solid D of course.

Considering the way Doc seems to want to play, I think that Austin and/or Nate will be better than Farmar.

That said, if we cut or trade Farmar and he sticks with another team, I fully expect that he'll have 20 points in a game against us later in the season.

All of this. All of this.

Especially the Farmar 20 pt bit

That's an interesting comment from Ralph. Maybe Farmar was a ****.

Looks like Austin will be playing tonight. Looking forward to seeing what he can do. Hopefully he won't be a train wreck.
