OFFICIAL 2015 LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS OFF-SEASON THREAD (Lance, PP, Josh Smith, Aldrich - pretty nice l

Haven't watched a lick of preseason basketball. I really like that we're considered contenders but I hate that it's kind of made the regular season meaningless. I feel like I have to force myself to follow the regular season before I can really enjoy watching us play (during the playoffs). Back when we sucked I remember watching almost every game and each win felt like such a big accomplishment

Having said that, I'm not concerned about not winning any preseasons game. When we start dropping these games in November-April then I'll be concerened.

Since there's very few really good centers in the league, there's probably a team out there with a pretty poor collection of those. But yeah, our SF spot is a big problem. So far, I think CDR's basically won the starting job by default. He hasn't really been good, but he's been the best of what we've got. Barnes has been absolutely awful.

Yeah I'm probably talking in hyperbole but with the way the game is played now alot of teams w/o a true center just play two talented PFs together and not suffer, we don't have that option

Yeah, I think we're probably looking at line-ups with BG and Crawford at SF, depending on match-ups.

Here's the 15 man roster we're going to start the season with:

Arash Markazi ‏@ArashMarkazi · 2h2 hours ago
Clippers:
PG: Paul–Farmar–Cunningham
SG: Reddick–Craword–Wilcox
SF: Barnes–Bullock–CDR
PF: Griffin–Davis–Turkoglu
C: Jordan–Hawes–Udoh

I guess Ingles got cut. I would have liked to see him get more of an opportunity in preseason, but I'll give Doc the benefit of the doubt.

Defense and rebounding look like even greater issues this year, wouldn't be surprise if this team finishes 4-6 in the West.

Even if they do finish in the top 2 or 3, it will be largely fools gold, as we plain and simply don't have the type of role players that do the dirty work needed to be true contenders (although keeping Cunningham was a good start). I don't know what's up about Doc's love affair with "shooting above everything else" approach. Wouldn't be surprised if he starts to take some heat for his personnel decisions.

Of course I hope I'm wrong, but as a close observer of the team, I'll be lying to myself if I tried to overlook the teams flaws.

With all that said, can wait for Thursday

Agree with everything you said. I said in the NBA thread that I could see us sliding to 5 or so. Like you, I hope I'm wrong, but it really does not look like our weaknesses were fixed over the offseason. We'll see though. And I also can't wait until Thursday

Tempted to go to Sunday's game to see Demarcus live.

I actually am selling tickets to that game as part of a contest for my internship. Tix start at 18 dollars. Use promo code "clippers" :D :smokin

As for the season tipping off tonight, the season couldn't have come fast enough. The Clippers obviously struggled a bit in Preseason and while that isn't a cause for major concern, it's definitely an eyebrow raiser.

Blake Griffin wasted no time this preseason showing what he's worked on and his poised to have an All NBA 1st team type of season. He'll garner some serious MVP consideration this year if the Clippers can improve upon their 57 wins that they did a year ago. They can definitely do that, but it'll be a bit harder this year with the west improving (again). The Western Conference last year proved just how important homecourt is come postseason time and their success in the regular season this year will be at a premium. OKC minus durant to me are games the clips have to have. The Clippers lost the opener to the Lakers last year and ended with 57 wins. They gave away games to Cleveland and Orlando. With the west being so tough, the Clips have to eliminate those kinds of losses as much as possible as it really does come back and hurt you at the end of the year when your fighting for playoff positioning. Durant being out is a wake up call for not just the clippers but the rest of the western conference and you bet that every playoff caliber team is looking to come out the gates strong with Durant down for 20 plus games. Hopefully the Clippers can come out the blocks strong, and get some distance record wise with the rest of the conference.

Health with this team is an issue. If CP and Reddick can stay relatively healthy, and stay away from those serious injuries, that'll be huge. The 3 spot is an issue obviously but i'm hoping somehow Matt Barnes can return to his end season form from last year and provide some steady shooting and above average defense. Between Him, CDR, and Reggie i'm hoping that'll be enough to keep that position steady. The pick up of Hawes should prove to be pivotal, and he's already better than byron mullins and Ryan Hollins. He'll play big minutes for them during the fourth.

That video :pimp: :pimp:

but you just click the link, and choose the game you want to go to from that link, enter the promo code "clippers" and go from there. I think you have to make an account with Ticketmaster too. There's quite a few solid games in there too

That was beyong pathetic. Gentry gone, offense goes back to VDN ball. Only difference is instead of CP3 mid range jumpers with the clock winding down, we get BG "one foot in front of the 3 pt line" jumpshots

Doc got all these "shooters", but none of them can hit wide open jumpshots, all while getting abused on defense.

Doc got about one month before he's card is pulled. P Jones was 2 pts shy of doubling up all of Doc's acquistions as GM, let that sink in.

 it's gonna be a long season for you guys. We got our ***** handed to us by the Lakers last season and continued to play sloppy ball for the first week. Must've wanted Doc gone then too
Give the coaching staff some time before you guys start talking about pulling cards

In the words of Aaron Rodgers.

It was very hard to watch knowing we should have beat this team easily double digits without Russ and KD. Given some players, Jones, will ball out of their minds, it should not have been that close. I hope Ballmer sees soon that we need to have two heads running GM and HC. I feel like Doc as both is ruining us.

Some take aways from tonight...

1. Blake needs to establish his jumper early so we can free up the lane. He better not be lazy and become a jump shooter.
2. We are STILL a terrible rebounding team.
3. Matt Barnes slashing game is on point. Glad to see him turn to that when his jumpshot wasn't falling.
4. JJ Redick will only have a few of these bad games this season, glad to get one out of the way.
5. Also agree with everything PAIDNFULL23 mentioned.
6. Ballmer is crazy.
7. Clippers introduction is CRAZY being a long time fan, it's good to see this change.

Only way I feel good about this play today is if we DEMOLISH the Lakers tomorrow.

I hear you bruh, but what happened in the Lakers game last year foreshadowed exactly what got them put out last year in the post season (sloppiness, poor rebounding and poor defense). Team doesn't have true contender habits/ attributes now and didnt have it last year despite all the reg season Ws.

Yall can beleive all the Doc hype you want but his GMing has already but the team in a hole. What happens in a short playoff series when your awful defensive playing, non rebounding role players go cold? You lose. I dont want him fired but I dont think he walks on water either like the media would lead you to believe.

On to the Lakers.

I'm going to give it some time, but I was expecting better out of the gate. I think we're ok personnel-wise; just need to tighten things up on a system level on both O and D.

Also, although its obviously great that Blake has improved his shooting, I'm getting a little worried he's becoming too reliant on his jumper. Maybe that's just because of the match-ups last night, but there was a few preseason games like that too.

Still, at least we won this game - off to a better start than last season.

Imo the lack of a reliable 3 is hurting blake in the sense that our spacing is horrible. In a sense he'staken the role of spacing the floor and I agree; he has fallen a bit in love with the jumpshots. Rebounding is an issue but not as bad as th fact we have nobody at sf.

But my thing with the criticizing of the team is this: If you believe that we are not good enough to be a legit contender (which i would agree with) why would you let yourself get so worked up when the team proves you right? Especially in the regular season. Idk man. Im just gonna enjoy the season and not worry about the "ugly wins" or "bad losses" until Late March (when the battle for playoff seeding begins). This team has reached the level where what we do in the regular season doesn't mean ****. It's all about the postseason. Until then, I won't get too high or too low.

I've stated how I felt about Doc several times in the NBA thread. He isn't great imo but the difference between him and VDN is substantial. He actually believed in DJ and gave him a role instead of benching him in the 4th of every game. We run actual plays out of timeouts in key moments of the game. The team actually seems to respect him. He has his flaws but is a drastic improvement from VDN.

Im not trying to come at any of you guys or sound like a dbag. I really am trying to put you guys on my train of thought. It's lessens the stress from Nov-March
